I have set up a new Toastie thread, guys.

I've had one refund so far, and am waiting for two more deliveries. that is rubbish about your non-service from Royal Mail. Do you happen to live in an area with lots of business addresses? DS2 lives in Oxford in an area like that and he's convinced they get a bad service because the business section is prioritised over residential

Nope, very residential. Weirdly, I saw the postie van a couple of streets away about 3 hours ago, but no sign here. Normally service is good, but this week has been a shambles.

IlovePond · 04/01/2025 15:31

I love the Selma’s @triggers34 - that green is lovely!

TosstTastic · 04/01/2025 15:39

I like the Selma prints, they remind me of the end papers of a Persephone book. They take great care choosing them to fit the year the book was originally published.

SaffyRosie · 04/01/2025 15:46

Is it my imagination/faulty memory that some sale items are now back at full price (eg quilted velvet throws). Also there is little full price stock and many items are now not there.

Cyclical play Toast to get people to buy their old summer stock.

IlovePond · 04/01/2025 16:26

You are right @SaffyRosie - this has been a terrible sale imo!

ScottishMouse · 04/01/2025 18:50

I take it back. My poor overworked postie just delivered 3 orders an hour ago. One of my orders has been stuck in my delivery office for almost a week, no idea when that one will arrive.
I also received a brand new Toast fairisle sweater I got on eBay. So delighted with it, it’s a bigger size of one I loved but had to sell on.
Not sure about most of the things in Toast parcels though.

ScottishMouse · 04/01/2025 19:03

So here’s what arrived. Would love thoughts from anyone who has tried/has any of these:

-Onyx stripe linen dress: I love this and tried it at the start of the sale but the stripes on the one I received didn’t hang right. I cannot be sure that this isn’t the same one as I think it has the same issue, but I may be being extremely fussy. It would need taking up too though.
-Stone linen vneck dress: this is a great fit, like the shape of it. It would be great for hot summer days if we ever had any here or if I ever went to hot places (I generally try to avoid the sun!). I’m not sure the colour is that flattering though, and my DD15 laughed out loud at it and said I looked like I had escaped from an asylum (I think my almost shorn head helped that look along). I’m still tempted to keep though.
-Navy wide leg herringbone trousers: I like the idea of these but I’m not sure the pleats at the front and back are that flattering. They would also need taking up, and the wool content makes me nervous to risk a machine wash. Probably going back.
-Grey alpaca buttoned tank: love it, but do I need it? No. Will probably return for this reason.

ScottishMouse · 04/01/2025 19:13

Maybe the dress in the orange colour would look less institutional.

Countmeout · 04/01/2025 19:38

I think the onyx is flattering @ScottishMouse . Where is it the stripes are bothering you? I’m going to have to look at mine again. I never noticed anything whether that is because mine is ok or I’m unobservant .

I like the linen one , it’s a good fit too, but prefer the onyx.

triggers34 · 04/01/2025 19:45

@ScottishMouse I really like the dark dress , it looks like something you could layer with a jumper and extend the wear .

ScottishMouse · 04/01/2025 19:46

I think it would @SaffyRosie but although I like orange/red, probably more as an accent than a whole outfit. I tried it again and I think my dd might be right, it’s going back.
@Countmeout it’s where the top and bottom half meet at the front, the gathers mean the stripes are a bit uneven. But looking at the photo I posted I don’t notice it so much. The stripes on the sleeves also don’t line up with the body but that bothers me less. I think I will keep it - it will be good on a warm day, it also looks good with a couple of cardis I have for cooler summer days. I’ll get it taken up later in the year, or attempt it myself.
I might keep the alpaca tank too if nothing in the orders yet to come (cosmic dot dress, Minako trousers, tie neck poplin shirt, boiled wool sweater, trippen sandals) is any good. Both that and the onyx dress were too expensive at full price but at over 40% off seem a better buy.

ScottishMouse · 04/01/2025 19:48

Thanks @triggers34, yes definitely. Love the Selma dresses on you, that was one I tried when it first appeared but it didn’t work for me.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 04/01/2025 19:51

I like the onyx dress as well @ScottishMouse but I agree it needs taking up. If it was me I’d be tempted to wear it now with a thin thermal layer underneath, tights or leggings, and boots.

IlovePond · 04/01/2025 20:11

I like the onyx dress on you @ScottishMouse

faustina · 04/01/2025 20:18

@ScottishMouse - I like the dresses on you, but especially the onyx one and I can't see a fault. With the lighter one, maybe if you accessorised it it might look a bit less ... large expanse of pale colour. A cross body bag? small bandana?

@triggers34 - the selma dresses look brilliant on you too and make me want to start wearing dresses again (not in this weather though)

ScottishMouse · 04/01/2025 20:21

Thanks everyone, onyx dress is hanging in my wardrobe for later in the year and the stone one is packed away. I’ll be bringing my local Toast quite the pile of returns next week sometime!

whinsome · 04/01/2025 20:22

Adding to the love for the onyx dress on you l@ScottishMouse

I have the grey alpaca tank and it’s the only thing I’ve kept. I hadn’t appreciated how warm a tank could be! I also like that it’s not as thick as the navy one from last year or the year before (or at least as far as I remember). I love it.

AmethystMoonShine · 04/01/2025 20:22

I also like the Onyx on you @ScottishMouse. I’ve kept it! I can remember seeing styles on Insta with the sleeve rolled up and it looked fab for hot weather- a very Italian vibe with big sunglasses maybe.
I do plan to layer with it for other seasons too.
Ive also kept to blue crinkle cotton checked dress which fits similarly. Its a stunning blue.
Pleased with my slate needle cord bag. I used it to carry all my returns to the post office 😂
Also kept the indigo denim slim leg trousers. Although the leg is far from slim.
I’ve returned the loop back tops and trousers in both charcoal and puck as the charcoal drained me and I looked like an elf left over from Christmas in the green… not quite what I was aiming for 😳
Also returned the Chupp socks as they looked scratchy and the packaging meant I couldn’t try them on.

In homeware, I have kept the handmade broom. It’s a bit short but so beautiful it’s coming to live in my home office where I have a limestone flagstone floor and I shall stylishly sweep away my biscuit crumbs with it 😂

whinsome · 04/01/2025 20:27

And thanks to whoever it was that posted about Beyond Nine Jenny trousers many moons ago. Bought a pair in the sale and they are the softest, snuggliest trousers. Perfect for Scotland - any time of the year! ;) I did try the Toast loop back trousers but found the material thin and the cut unflattering. Don’t think the Jenny trousers are particularly flattering either but I would happily hibernate in them.

ScottishMouse · 04/01/2025 20:48

@AmethystMoonShine is that the long sleeved blue crinkle check dress from the summer? I bought that in the summer and wore it a lot, it’s lovely. I thought I would layer it with a sweater this time of year but I haven’t so far.

Stoic123 · 04/01/2025 21:07

@ScottishMouse - another vote for Onyx dress. I'm not seeing an issue with the stripes.

It's difficult to tell from a photo but I also don't think the Stone colour is doing you any favours. I tried the red version in store a while back and nearly bought it. Would have bought if colour brighter (online photos make it look more vibrant than it is in real life). I love the neckline - wish Toast did more v necks.

ScottishMouse · 04/01/2025 21:11

I agree @Stoic123 that dress is a great shape. I would definitely buy it if they did it in navy or charcoal.

mizu · 04/01/2025 21:34

@ScottishMouse agree too re striped dress, another lovely length too!

It’s this one @ScottishMouse, which I think was from the summer.
I will play about with my knitwear to see if I can wear it now.
