Sparkly skinnies - middle age tragic or ok for festive season?

Helpagirlout222 · 20/11/2024 22:56

I've ordered a pair of the m&s coated sparkly skinnies and can't decide if they're terrible or a handy article?!
Is it mums' night out vibe? Rod Stewart?!

OP posts:

I love them!

Maybe the folks who hate them just don’t have the figure .

no fat arse should be in skinnies

Actually I think most of us that said we would wear them have quite acknowledged that our arses aren't small

  • but we'll wear what we bloody well want to.

Anyone can wear them you judgemental shallow twit.

potatocakesinprogress · 23/11/2024 21:01

I'd wear them to Rocky Horror or to volunteer at a Christmas party for the blind, but otherwise no.

Maybe your judgemental opinion is superfluous to requirements on this thread.

If OP likes them and feels good in them then she should have fun, go for it and enjoy.

And I really don't understand why you wasted keystrokes on such an unpleasant comment that isn't constructive at all.

I looked at the link in the OP because it was an invitation to comment on the trousers.
So imo they looked cheap and nasty and that was what I said. What is wrong with that? Why ask for opinions if the OP doesn't want them.
I think coated trousers and sparkly trousers - or sparkly clothes of any sort -look cheap and nasty. And leather trousers remind me of dead animals and are even worse.
If OP thinks differently and she likes them why is she asking other people for validation?

Mirabai · 23/11/2024 23:05

They look a bit like a Sandy from Grease costume.

I have the figure, but I also have taste. 😬

Believe me, wide legs definitely aren't much more flattering when you are 5ft 1 1/2, have a middle-aged middle, but fantastic (although a little short) legs 🤗👊

Nothing looks better or more stylish than people wearing what suits their shape and what makes them feel confident. Nothing looks worse than people wearing things that don't suit them, just because they are "in" (made that mistake a lot in my 20's and 30's 😂) Wear them with pride OP !

I couldn't agree more - I'm 5ft 5 apple shaped with little interest in wearing heels and I cannot pull off wide legged trousers at all. I look at my pear shaped friends and they work wonders but it's just too much material for me and they make my whole body just look, well, wide. I like either a skinny or a slim flare and both in a high waist. Sadly I am unable to change my skeleton in line with changing fashion trends.

Mummadeze · 24/11/2024 08:17

Think they would look cool with a slouchy top. Am 50 and live in London, and I don’t register an age barrier to most looks.

Gowlett · 24/11/2024 08:33

I have a friend who dresses in a foxy way, she wears these, cold-shoulder tops, cut-out backs, mini skirts etc… Looks great.

Depends on your personal style. I couldn’t get away with it!

It was the way you said it. If you intended your comment to be constructive/helpful to OP, you picked a funny way of expressing it, as it just came across as snark.

BoudiccasBangles · 24/11/2024 15:06

Love sparkly trousers for Christmas. Would prefer wide leg though, a bit more sophisticated.

Hoplolly · 24/11/2024 15:57

Wide leg don't suit everyone though @BoudiccasBangles I am short/petite and they are so unflattering on me, skinny legs are better.

Bedonkedonk · 24/11/2024 17:56

100% just wear what you love - you can't please everyone with your style so don't even bother trying to please anyone. To whoever made the comment about big arses - you obviously are one! It does not matter what size or shape we are - humans come as all sorts and we can all wear whatever we like. Get those sparkly threads on and enjoy them. 💖

PeachyKeane · 20/11/2024 23:02

Oh shit, I have just ordered these from River Island. Are they also uncool now?

I like these. Much sparklier than the M&S pair. I'd wear them if I had the figure for it. As my mum used to say, "If you've got it, flaunt it."

Unfortunately, I have a size 18 top, a size 20 bottom and a size 22 waist. I'd look like the bottom half of an oven ready turkey.

WearyAuldWumman · 24/11/2024 21:10

Helpagirlout222 · 21/11/2024 07:29

I have so little of a clue left I don't know if I like them or not! Thry are v comfy, I worry about the arse getting saggy. Wondering now if navy would have been less glam rock?
But yes, they are sold out!

If they fit you and you're comfy in them, wear them. Life's too short. If you don't wear them, you'll regret it.

Doubledded123 · 24/11/2024 21:25

bostonchamps · 21/11/2024 10:16

I have these in silver (and I'm not a singer), and have been wearing them with an oversized white shirt and suede bostons for day and a black tux blazer, silk cami and velvet kitten slingbacks for evening.

I think the wide leg is more current - I'm still wearing skinnies but in washed denim, with big jumpers and docs. Still in stock in my (average) size!

I'm liking your style !

Oh you'd hate me. I wear something glittery pretty much every day, and have done for years.

PeachyKeane · 25/11/2024 13:40

Me too, love my glitter and sparkles. If not glitter then lots of colour. "Never knowingly understated or underdressed" is my motto 😁

Pinkxmas1997 · 25/11/2024 17:01

wear whatever you like and whatever you want!!! (Personally I love sparkles at Christmas cool or uncool🥰)

Grammarnut · 26/11/2024 09:55

I suspect no longer cool, but would look good with the right boots and a thinnish, swingy jumper. Would look very Christmassy - and, hey! wear whatever you like! I go in for sparkles and spangles too and I am not 'middle-aged' (alas).

menopause59 · 26/11/2024 12:37

I think they are fantastic, and if I had a Christmas occasion to go to I would definitely be purchasing them

BlaBlaBla87436780087 · 27/11/2024 06:06

I mean objectively not trendy or fashionable at all - the oversized shirt and skinny bottoms look is outdated but on the other hand wear whatever the f you want ✌🏼

current trends would be dress tights boots or wide leg trousers

Pumpkincozynights · 27/11/2024 07:33

Well since you mentioned Rod Stewart I am shocked at home tame they are!
Perfectly fine for any party/Christmas event.
I was expecting something far more out there tbh.
I’m in the camp if wear what you like though. I can’t stand the fashion for tracksuits and leggings everywhere. Yes I do wear activewear but not for going out in.
Most people are not model slim either so I don’t think that matters.

user1499128287 · 27/11/2024 11:24

Just wear them if you like them! Who cares about what anyone else thinks or doesn't think. Wear what YOU like, and hang the rest! Enjoy them.
