Sparkly skinnies - middle age tragic or ok for festive season?

Helpagirlout222 · 20/11/2024 22:56

I've ordered a pair of the m&s coated sparkly skinnies and can't decide if they're terrible or a handy article?!
Is it mums' night out vibe? Rod Stewart?!

OP posts:

The questions you need to ask are

Do you like them?
Do you like them?
Do you like them?

if you can answer yes to at least 2/3 then get them they will be great.

Mind you most of my life is in jeans and Heavy Metal Shirts. (Those trousers would look great with a band shirt)

PeachyKeane · 20/11/2024 23:02

Oh shit, I have just ordered these from River Island. Are they also uncool now?

OMG I love those!

OP, I like yours too. I'm middle-aged and couldn't care less if anyone thought my clothes were giving 'middle-age tragic'. Life's too short to worry about whether your clothes are age-appropriate, whatever that means.

Viewfrommyhouse · 21/11/2024 15:24

I've got a pair of pink sparkly skinnies. Love them, great for going out out. I also wore a gold sequin mini dress last weekend (Abby Clancy/Tesco). I'm 50 next year and couldn't give a shit. Wear what you love.

StrugglingwithIvanhoe · 21/11/2024 15:27

I am 69 and have these. I'll be wearing at Christmas with a pale grey cashmere jumper and I think I look fab. Wear what the hell you like!
Life is short, smile while you still have teeth!

Itoldyousoo · 21/11/2024 15:44

Well they are sold out now!

OMG I had a pair like this 10 years ago when I was about 25! Mine were made by Lee though, so they were thicker and much higher quality. I suspect that those will be thin material and highly unflattering. They don't even look good on the model.

I hate to be ageist, but I personally wouldn't wear something like that as an over 30.

But you wore them as an under-30... seriously, what's the difference?

TheBigSalami · 21/11/2024 15:51

You’ll get lots saying ‘if you like them, wear them..’ but I assume you’re asking because you want to know if they’re a current style.

No, they’re not. (The way M&S have styled them is bloody dreadful too.)

Trends may or not matter to you. I think they look very dated at the moment, but I’m sure lots of older women will be wearing them on Christmas nights out so you wouldn’t stick out.

Wide legs are much more current and so much more flattering.

CaptainSensiblesRedBeret · 20/11/2024 23:24

Life is too short not to wear them. Want them, buy them, wear them, rock the fuck out of them.

(middle aged hospice nurse who wears whatever the fuck I like because nobody else’s opinion matters and life IS too short to care about what other people think I should be wearing)

This a million times. Can't believe people let others influence not buying a pair of jeans they really like..

Believe me, wide legs definitely aren't much more flattering when you are 5ft 1 1/2, have a middle-aged middle, but fantastic (although a little short) legs 🤗👊

Nothing looks better or more stylish than people wearing what suits their shape and what makes them feel confident. Nothing looks worse than people wearing things that don't suit them, just because they are "in" (made that mistake a lot in my 20's and 30's 😂) Wear them with pride OP !

Duc · 21/11/2024 16:34

I couldn’t give a shit of something is in fashion or not, if I like it I’ll wear it

Cranarc · 21/11/2024 16:51

I think they're glorious. My legs are too big to fit nicely into something that skinny - otherwise I certainly would wear them.

Ooh yes. A band T-shirt would be great (preferably heavy metal but whatever rocks your boat)

BarbadosItsCloserThanYouThink · 21/11/2024 17:17

I think they're quiet subtle. Wear what you love! If you can't sparkle at Christmas when can you!

AnImaginaryCat · 21/11/2024 17:25

There's a hard core set fashion police who have been banging the "skinniest are out" drum for what feels like a decade. It's probably less. Thing is no one appears to have informed the fashion/clothing buyers of any of the fashion retailers.

If you like them and feel they suit you, wear them and go out in confidence. You'll look amazing.

Get dressed, roll in glitter..good to go.

If only that were an option, I'd do it every day.

As long as you can name 3 songs it’s good😀

JohnTheRevelator · 21/11/2024 17:40

I thought it was going to be jeans/jeggings with sparkly stuff on them. I've got myself a pair for Christmas day,and when I saw the title of this thread,I thought 'Oh no. I'm 61. Please don't say that I'm going to look like mutton dressed as lamb'. 😂

These have come today and they are completely fabulous 👌 will be wearing them tomorrow night to see The Blossoms 🌸

Stichintime · 20/11/2024 22:59

Followed link 'No longer available' message. Think the fashion police got them removed before anyone else could get a pair.

😂😂😂😂

Skinnies might be dated, but adding ‘The’ to a band name that doesn’t have one puts years on you 😂

According to British Vogue, they are back

Lemonade2011 · 21/11/2024 18:10

I have no interest in looking ‘cool’ stylish, well put together etc yes but not cool or overly up to date, I wear what I want. People need to care less about what others think, hate phrases like ‘dated’ well I am dated I was born in the 70’s and yep I probably am out these days
op if you like them, wear them ❤️

Mylittlebobble · 21/11/2024 18:10

This thread has made me realise I haven't got a 'dated radar'. It all looks fine to me. As a teen, I had a very sensitive one, but that along with my good hearing, seems to be lost with age.

MaybeItWasMe · 21/11/2024 20:14

I love them and would wear them.

bananaboats · 21/11/2024 20:21

They do look very dated and I can't really imagine them looking good on most people
