Sparkly skinnies - middle age tragic or ok for festive season?

I've ordered a pair of the m&s coated sparkly skinnies and can't decide if they're terrible or a handy article?!
Is it mums' night out vibe? Rod Stewart?!

OP posts:

I don't like these, they aren't for me and I was very very glad to see the back of the skinny trend but I wouldn't look at anyone and think oh no the year 2015 is calling for their pants back. A bit dated but not horrific. Best way to wear probably with a loose shirt or jumper and flat big boots?

Floradon · 21/11/2024 07:31

It’s Christmas, don’t over think it - get dressed up and have fun!

BusterGonad · 21/11/2024 07:36

I really like them and would wear them with a nice slouchy thin jumper for Christmas day. I either colour.

CarrieMoonbeams · 21/11/2024 07:50

I have to shoehorn this into every possible conversation I have, because I still laugh every time I think about it. My SIL looked me up and down last year and said:

"I know we don't always see eye to eye..." (massive understatement there) "...but I have to say Carrie that I do kind of admire that about you - you just really don't give a fuck what you look like!"

I just laughed at her and said "Absolutely! Well I certainly don't care about the opinion of someone whose advice I'd never ask for anyway." (Tumbleweed at that point, I don't know if she ever worked out that I was referring to her!)

So @Helpagirlout222 and anyone else debating getting sparkly breeks, go for it, stride out, and be happy with your choices 🤗

GettingStuffed · 21/11/2024 07:55

I think they're horrible but I feel that about any coated jeans. However contrary to some poster the style YouTubers I follow are all bigging up the return of skinny jeans. If they didn't sell they shops wouldn't sell them

nicky2512 · 21/11/2024 08:00

I love them. Wear whatever makes you happy 😊

curious79 · 21/11/2024 08:02

I saw these yesterday in Marks & Spencer‘s, and nearly bought them. They are really lovely. Think jegging type of stretch. The photo makes them look a bit sparklier than they actually are.

OMG I had a pair like this 10 years ago when I was about 25! Mine were made by Lee though, so they were thicker and much higher quality. I suspect that those will be thin material and highly unflattering. They don't even look good on the model.

I hate to be ageist, but I personally wouldn't wear something like that as an over 30.

@MidnightMeltdown

only the over 30’s would wear skinny jeans though…

TheMauveTiger · 21/11/2024 08:16

OP I'm 65 and I bought the gold wide leg ones for a gig (I'm a singer) .
I wore them with a retro, fitted dark green velvet top from Toast and ankle boots.
Loads of people said they looked fab and asked me where I got them
So I say go for it. Ok so they don't have a long shelf life fashion wise but they're not prohibitvely expensive.

trimma · 21/11/2024 09:04

Thanks for the link OP, I have now bought 3 sparkly items - enjoy wearing yours too.

Dontwearmysocks · 21/11/2024 09:41

Clicheinaqashqai · 20/11/2024 23:42

I bought a pair of wide leg silver trousers earlier, on a whim, and am having the same internal debate!

Wide legs I could go with!

Sad to say the skinnies are giving me aging rocker @Helpagirlout222 🤣🤣

but what do I know?! If you love em, wear em! X

chaosmaker · 21/11/2024 09:42

They look awful on the model anyway. Maybe they look better on you OP? I agree with the wear what you want and probably shouldn't comment on this section cos i've never understood fashion and have been voted best and worst dressed at the same time which proves that nobody really knows fashion

Wordau · 21/11/2024 09:44

Fashion tends to work on a 20 year cycle. So recently we've had y2k and the modern take on the 90s take on the 70s.

Now skinny / skinnier jeans are coming back in. BUT they are low rise 😱

CaptainSensiblesRedBeret · 20/11/2024 23:24

Life is too short not to wear them. Want them, buy them, wear them, rock the fuck out of them.

(middle aged hospice nurse who wears whatever the fuck I like because nobody else’s opinion matters and life IS too short to care about what other people think I should be wearing)

Love this!!!!💯

AuntieStella · 21/11/2024 09:54

Age has nothing to do with it.

Wear what you feel terrific in!

Overtheatlantic · 21/11/2024 10:00

“Middle-age tragic” just fucking stop with the disgusting ageism. It’s not funny or self-aware. It smacks of insecurity.

I have these in silver (and I'm not a singer), and have been wearing them with an oversized white shirt and suede bostons for day and a black tux blazer, silk cami and velvet kitten slingbacks for evening.

I think the wide leg is more current - I'm still wearing skinnies but in washed denim, with big jumpers and docs. Still in stock in my (average) size!

beguilingeyes · 21/11/2024 10:19

I bought a silver pair last year from M&S and have now lost weight (hooray!) and they're way too big now (boo), so they look like Nora Batty's tights (reference for the kids, there)

mumonthehill · 21/11/2024 10:22

Please wear them for all those of us who want to but do not have the confidence to!!!

Lakeyloo · 21/11/2024 11:14

Go for it OP ! I think they'll look great if styled properly. I probably wouldn't wear them with a low cut fitted sparkly top, but a slouchy jumper or a t shirt and blazer/tux jacket and heeled ankle boots would look great.

LONG LIVE SKINNIES !

raysan · 21/11/2024 11:39

I think shiny/ sparkly skinnies look absolutely hot, go with different tops and definitely age appropriate for middle age. Almost a classic like a LBD. (Disclaimer, I am not fashionable at all)

DazedAndConfused321 · 21/11/2024 12:04

Sorry, but utterly tragic. I love skinnies but the leather look and sparkly skinnies make me want to claw my eyes out.

Katiesaidthat · 21/11/2024 12:37

I have a pair like this. Bought them around 3 years ago. Wear them for festive occasions with long-ish tops. I am 50, size 14 and 5 f 10. And I do what I like.

DevilledEgg · 21/11/2024 13:35

Well the model certainly doesn't look tragic.
If I could wear them and look like her, I would!

Hoplolly · 21/11/2024 14:15

only the over 30’s would wear skinny jeans though…

Someone better pass the memo to my 19 year old

Wear whatever you like. I don't conform to any rules - I wear what I feel good in. I barely even notice what other people are wearing.
