I’ve felt a sea change in everything since they’ve extended their footprint to USA .
The collection seems to have a different feel somehow , and as for the incessant mailshots ….I really dislike that and being force fed ‘ my choice’ 😥

triggers34 · 21/12/2024 08:48

I've got a few things in my basket ready for the sale 2 Selma dresses and some clogs .
I wore my new red cord Franca dress last night to an Xmas drinks party , it's lovely a few people complimented me . I need to save it to wear on Christmas Day .

IlovePond · 21/12/2024 09:07

Hi,

I created a bag yesterday, but now it’s empty! What am I doing wrong?

Meanwhile, w/l is trimmed down to 115 items 😹

Stoic123 · 21/12/2024 10:40

@triggers34 - that's lovely. It is the perfect Christmas Day dress.

On my wishlist I have 3 items - only one of which I expect to appear in the sale (pair of napkin rings). I've just done a major declutter and it's made me hyper aware of what I already have and what I've bought but never/rarely used.

I tend to get a lot of pleasure and use out of my small Toast home stuff (Riverstone bowl for £14 😍- encouraged by @faustina ) so may be tempted by these sorts of things and socks for gifts (seems to be a direct correlation between friends' ages and their appreciation for a good pair of sock).

@IlovePond - my basket has cleared before. Be careful of adding items early- things added before sale are not always updated with the sale price (during Kindred phase- when running two price points).

IronBorou · 21/12/2024 11:44

To the woman who might be on here in the gingham Toast dress at Scottish Ballet last night, you rocked it. Tres chic!

faustina · 21/12/2024 12:03

@IronBorou - wouldn't it be great if she was on here and sees that? I always think telling someone how nice they look is one of the most positive things you can do for another person

@Stoic123 - I think I paid full price for mine, but it's such a beautiful thing to have on the side in my kitchen, as well as useful of course. I love all my Toast kitchen stuff!

My Wishlist is 44 I think, so I must do some whittling down too!

ScottishMouse · 21/12/2024 12:13

The weather is a misery here so I shall be spending my afternoon tucked up under a blanket editing my wishlist. I tend to add items when they appear first, then try them and discover they don’t work for me, and forget to remove them.

OftenOrange · 21/12/2024 18:57

@Snowyowl78 That’s interesting , I wonder why US before Paris , Berlin or Amsterdam ?
What do we all think of the other brands ?
I wore Me and Em for a few years , skinny leggings, white shirts , swingy tops , always black . I don’t like it now, too many weird tabs and buttons to change trousers length , too LK Bennet and too mainstream
Rixo , not interested in floaty girly clobber.
O Pioneers , I draw the line on being a milkmaid at my age , although I did wear this kind of thing way back it looks too much like fancy dress.

IlovePond · 21/12/2024 19:04

Interesting @Snowyowl78

Stravaig · 21/12/2024 19:04

Sales are starting all over the place, and none have tiered entry, giving some people access to discounts ahead of others. Something to ponder, Toast.

faustina · 21/12/2024 20:02

@OftenOrange - it is interesting about the US instead of Europe. you'd think they could stretch to a shop in Paris wouldn't you? But maybe they feel they already have a base there and that there's more of a need for pockets for secateurs in Brooklyn 😀

@Stravaig - I'm getting slightly annoyed about any kind of sale happening anywhere for any of us!

IlovePond · 21/12/2024 20:08

I suspect that, post-Brexit, it’s easier for Toast to do business/set up in the US than in Europe. (Plus, no language barrier for the execs!)

Stravaig · 21/12/2024 20:45

@faustina 😆
If Toast is cosying up to the USA, then sales should be early and generous!

IlovePond · 21/12/2024 21:53

That would be nice @Stravaig

I wonder if they had an in-store Black Friday sale in the NY store.

I am trying to imagine the US staff explaining to bemused customers that they don’t have in-store sales because it ‘lowers the tone’, (which is why they no longer have sales in store here in the UK, apparently - I asked at an event once).

ScottishMouse · 21/12/2024 22:05

I have just noticed that the Hal denim jacket has gone up £20 from £165 to £185 since about 2/3 weeks ago! It was almost out of stock and I was watching for a size 12 to come back into stock. It is now back in stock in all sizes but £20 more. What is that about? I wonder what else has had a jump in price.

Stravaig · 21/12/2024 22:12

@IlovePond Gosh, did they actually say that aloud?! Oh dear.

The funny thing is, Toast used to be niche, simply because it was little known, and mail order, and a bit unusual, and sort of outside of fashion trends. Going back 20 plus years.

Now though, it has ever more shops, huge collections, a hotline to coverage in mainstream papers, and wardrobe stylists placing it in multiple TV programmes. There are thousands of Toast items being sold second-hand on eBay at any given time, when once you could skim all 100 offerings every few weeks and never miss anything.

It's far too late for it to be exclusive!

Stravaig · 21/12/2024 22:15

@ScottishMouse I thought something had randomly gone up recently too. Then wondered if I'd misremembered the price. Can't remember what, a jumper I think?

IlovePond · 21/12/2024 22:34

@Stravaig - I’m paraphrasing somewhat, but yes, that was definitely the gist - small shops, sale stuff made the place look untidy and detracted customer attention from current ‘collections’.

It did make me laugh inwardly, tbh. I can only think of two companies in the UK that refuse to sully their stores with sale products: Chanel …and Toast 😹

MsDastardley · 22/12/2024 07:27

@IlovePond Rusell and Bromley sale went online only for a couple of years after Covid. They have now reverted to a store sale, but you wouldn’t know it! Just a tiny sign on one of display stands. No more racks of sale shoes like in the past, you have to ask for size as usual.

mizu · 22/12/2024 09:00

I still miss the in store TOAST sales - and in Cheltenham they used to have an upstairs with random sample bits which I loved to browse when my girls were tiny, you never knew what gem you were going to find.

IlovePond · 22/12/2024 09:09

@MsDastardley - I used to love the R&B sales. My local branch shut years ago, though.

That sounds nice @mizu . I miss the permanent sample rails at KC - it’s not the same going there now!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 22/12/2024 11:03

Sale must be imminent, I just typed dresses into search and some older stock popped up with sale prices, same with socks etc.

IlovePond · 22/12/2024 11:08

🤞🤞🤞@Theteapotsbrokenspout - well spotted!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 22/12/2024 11:08
