What's the winter equivalent of linen trousers?

I'm looking for winter trousers to wear instead of jeans. I want them to be smart/casual like linen trousers can be but would like them to be in a warm comfortable and drapery fabric. What am I looking for? I don't want cargos, joggers or cords as they are too casual or stuff like jeans. But other trousers seem too formal as they come in black grey beige. Any ideas?

Forgotten Tribes have wool mix trousers,I bought 2 pairs for this winter, love them.

Thank you for starting the thread OP, I have the same problem.

I can't wear wool so I tend to look for thicker jersey cotton trousers for autumn/winter. I have some lovely ones from Poetry but they are not available this year.

I have just ordered the Uniqlo trousers recommended above (thank you @Utterknowitall )

This is Unfolded - Lana trousers are great.

These are their winter version:

Came back to say I ordered saint and Sofia apartment pants and they're great. Two slight downsides: the coco melange colour I bought is a cotton/polyester mix (all the others are cotton, I think); and I wish they had a cream/off-white or similar colour; the coco brown is the only one that's not dark and a bit dull (navy, charcoal etc). Apart from the maroon ones, but I'd be worried about looking like a Chelsea yah.

I think it's something like this: https://uk.saintandsofia.com/products/apartment-pant-black-straight-leg-trouser or https://uk.saintandsofia.com/collections/womens-straight-leg-trousers/products/putney-pant-black-trouser

I find that in the winter if I wear trousers that are too wide, they get very wet in the rain so I prefer either cropped trousers with chelsea boots, or straight-leg with trainers. Chinos are not heavy/warm enough IMO.

Sai y and Sofia are awful, really poor quality for the money. I want to like them so much because their "style" is exactly what I'm looking for, but every order has been disappointing.

I found just what you are looking for yesterday in M and S OP. They are thick jersey, wide leg trousers with a buckle at the back, so you can tighten them. I didn’t but them because I prefer thinner fabric, but they would be very warm. They also have great pockets.

Cords?

quirkychick · 25/10/2024 22:30

Forgotten Tribes can be variable quality, from experience. I have some wool harems from them and some heavy cotton trousers that are good, but also several duds.

KateM91 · 26/10/2024 18:19

Just wear leggings underneath the linen trousers.

RSSN · 26/10/2024 18:21

Merino wool

sassyclassyandsmartassy · 26/10/2024 18:51

Halara do wide leg semi tailored warm trousers, bloody love them! Have them on right now. So comfy!

LilySLE · 26/10/2024 18:55

Velvet trousers

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 26/10/2024 19:01

I have velvety flared leggings and wear all the time to work or lounging

PayYourselfFirst · 26/10/2024 19:15

Smart work trousers Boden Highgate ponte or Westborne if you like a wide leg
Nice heavy fabric, stretchy but fit nicely and tailored on waist and hips .
Very comfortable
I wear for work or with boots and a jumper if more casual.
Not really sure why people are saying wear linen trousers in the winter?
It will just look odd and they would flap around in the rain.

Mumtobesept2023 · 26/10/2024 19:15

These! They are so comfy and look smart. I am a 12/14 on hips/bum and small on waist and size M is perfect.

Black velvet trousers. Perfect!

Sorrynotsorry22 · 26/10/2024 20:01

Definitely corduroy or wool, if you can wash them
Failing that long Jon's and long skirts and dresses

GiddyDuck · 26/10/2024 20:11

Following with interest - I’m six months postpartum with a big ol lovely stomach. I live in the muddy countryside and don’t leave the house much aside from walks and the grocery store, but would love something warm to replace the wide leg cropped linen elastic waist things I wore all summer…

beakitude · 26/10/2024 20:35

The Germans are good at warm (and more formal) trousers. Try Gerry Weber. EBay has a lot of their trousers described as new/other at reasonable prices which helps with the expense.

Boden and similar sellers do some nice comfy but semi-formal trousers like their Richmond and Hamilton ranges. They come in some funky colours too.

Annanirvana · 27/10/2024 01:11

You need jersey or wool for warmth. Otherwise, thermal leggings beneath any wider leg, bootflare trousers or jeans.
