What's the winter equivalent of linen trousers?

Matformouse · 21/10/2024 08:40

I'm looking for winter trousers to wear instead of jeans. I want them to be smart/casual like linen trousers can be but would like them to be in a warm comfortable and drapery fabric. What am I looking for? I don't want cargos, joggers or cords as they are too casual or stuff like jeans. But other trousers seem too formal as they come in black grey beige. Any ideas?

Feeling very old and unfashionable. I thought the answer was "cords" 😳

Ooh yes. Thank you. I like the look of that fabric.

I've got them. They are wonderfully soft.

It is the answer.
Nice chunky thick cord not fine baby cord.
Cropped or wide leg.
Toast Annie's are perfect.

If looking for smarter work trousers Boden ponte, they do various styles

Chinos ?
just no

Ninepines are lovely quality. Swedish brand.

NoNoNona · 22/10/2024 06:43

Wool , cord or velvet are all good in winter.

I’m after this too. I’m looking for more of a barrel shape I think. To avoid rain and hem situations. Doesn’t help you OP, sorry! But I’ll post if I find any.

Have a look a "Kate" trousers from TurtledovesLondon. I really like the barrel cut.

I just wear linen trousers in winter. Linen Handmade is brilliant - you can get a pair made up in any colour you want and they’re fantastically made. Definitely worth the money linenhandmadestudio.com/linen-pants/667-133182-wide-leg-linen-pants-oakland#/62-size-2_us/77-color-optic_white/203-inseam-28_in

I think I'm trying to find the comfort of linen trousers too. Cords can feel too much like wearing jeans with regards the waistband.

I have some FatFace Blake trousers that are a bit like linen trousers - they’re thick and warm but have a kind of heavy drape/floppy/slouchy effect that isn’t the same as wool or cord (I think they’re lyocell).

snowmichael · 22/10/2024 08:54

Most people find linen warm in winter for the same reason it's cool in summer -the coarse weave traps a thicker layer of insulating air between you and the outside world

You can get heavier linen trousers for winter

I have some elasticated-waist cords from Uniqlo.

I really love these in cord: https://lucyandyak.com/products/billie-trousers-organic-corduroy-black?variant=40418100609127&frt=&gadsource=1&gbraid=0AAAAAomNgeLlzRCnnClJVhLaUGF3Zfc6 (elasticated waist)

Honestly, these are the thing. They are so nice and definitely nicer in real life than on the web https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E471553-000/00

Cotton wool blend.

I like the style of these - especially with the darts in the front. Just not sold in the colours. I'd wear them at home on working from home days though.

M and s have words in both wide leg and what they call a slim flare. They are stunning. Will be hot footing it there later.

I got some black loose fitting around the legs yoga pants from amazon - so comfy and mine have pockets. Smarter than joggers, but not so loose they are flappy.
And if it's a bit nippy, I just wear tights underneath.

Edited

Could you add a link or screenshot, thanks

Or velvet jeans? From Lands End. Smarter than denim and warmer.

It used to be easier to find lined wool or wool blend trousers and skirts. I miss the two long lined black skirts I used to alternate in Fierce Winter. They were well woven and didn't look rough in texture.

liveyoungstayactive · 23/10/2024 14:38

The problem with wool trousers is that they have to be dry cleaned; something I detest doing. I dislike the hassle, chemicals, cost etc.

Cold hand wash worked ok for me

Meadowfinch · 24/10/2024 01:26

I noticed today that Poetry has some linen/wool mix trousers that sound like they may work.

They would be warmer and less prone to creasing. But probably require either hand wash or dry clean.
