What's the winter equivalent of linen trousers?

I'm looking for winter trousers to wear instead of jeans. I want them to be smart/casual like linen trousers can be but would like them to be in a warm comfortable and drapery fabric. What am I looking for? I don't want cargos, joggers or cords as they are too casual or stuff like jeans. But other trousers seem too formal as they come in black grey beige. Any ideas?

Thee's a blue wool blend wide leg trouser in the Damart sale.

I'd post a link if it weren't stupidly long.

Just highlight and press the link button and you'll hide the stupidly long url behind your own succinct ones. Would love to see those trousers!

Ninepines are lovely quality. Swedish brand.

What?!?.I bought trousers off them after drinking the Facebook koolaid and they're synthetic crap!

Just normal trousers, slacks sometimes called. Should be a decent selection in workwear sections, come in all qualities from real wool downwards

I have a couple of slim leg chinos but the slim leg doesn't seem very current. They are very comfy and versatile though.

I think I'm trying to find the comfort of linen trousers too. Cords can feel too much like wearing jeans with regards the waistband.

I hate tight waistbands and I've found these M&S fine cord trousers very comfy!

Wide leg velour joggers - I have some cropped ones to wear with boots and they hang nicely, look reasonably smart and as they are cropped don't drag on the pavements.

Wide legged..... cropped?

Anyone else getting original star trek vibes?

These! They are so comfy and look smart. I am a 12/14 on hips/bum and small on waist and size M is perfect.

I live in these in the winter! I wfh and I have 4 pairs and wear them on rotation, they're as comfy as my wide leg linen trousers or my pj trousers. Best thing ever!

I like these, and have already ordered the velvet Landsend trousers mentioned up thread.

I think wool too. I buy what I think are quite formal wool trousers, like suit trousers, on Vinted and EBay, and wear them with sweaters and trainers for winter. I’m not a fan of linen trousers but they defintely give the same soft, relaxed feel I think you’re after. I find cords too bulky and stiff, and anything jersey or synthetic too floppy and insubstantial to look right in winter.

Mint Velvet are usually good for drapery, smart - casual trousers, year round. Silk trousers now seem to be on trend, so you might like a pair of those? Nice with a chunky jumper and sneakers

Cords are definitely the winter equivalent of linen trousers. Zara have some wonderful pairs in stock. So snug and soft.

Hush had some lovely cords last year. I bought 2 colours, can be worn turned up or not. Easy pull on but lie nicely. I love them

I've dome thick wide leg joggers and cords

Kool4katz · 09/11/2024 18:12

Ponte is a polyester knit based jersey fabric so plenty of stretch in it for a snug comfy fit. It washes and dries well and you don't necessarily have to iron it either.

I make my own trousers from my own patterns so that they fit me perfectly. I mostly buy fabrics from German or Dutch fabric sellers as I prefer bold patterned fabrics rather than plain black or navy.

Corduroy. There are some lovely wide or straight ones out there,in fabulous colours. Try Poetry, Wrap or even M&S.

Laurmolonlabe · 09/11/2024 21:58

I'd say lightweight wool.

Swishytwip · 10/11/2024 11:12

I live in cashmere trousers in the winter. They feel as comfortable as pj's but are smart enough for anywhere.

NPET · 10/11/2024 16:47

Cords don't have to look casual. I've got a few different colour ones I got in River Island and the black ones in particular would pass as formal.
