I have often got the M and S one. Dithering a bit - should I try another, and if so, which one?

MidnightMeltdown · 26/10/2024 14:31

I caved and ordered M&S as I had a few things that I wanted to order from there anyway. It arrived today and the little boxes inside are really cute!

There's an unboxing on YouTube

Vogue is clearly not selling well- I’ve had several emails pushing it over the past few weeks. Another arrived just now. Initially, this was my going to be my one purchase this year. When they released the contents, it was just not appealing for the price- way too many DOD. I’m still not at all tempted, it would need to be a very hefty discount to pique my interest. Last years (that I didn’t buy) seemed much better to me.

I agree with everything you said here @Addictedtobeauty . I was really disappointed with the 2024 reveal after seeing how good 2023 was and had mentally prepared to spend that amount this year.

Monpetitchoumonpetitepois · 26/10/2024 14:51

There was a lot of chat about the vogue last year, I remember a few of us that had it. Posters holly and acac. I caved after reading the posts and because I loved everything about it. This year's just doesn't compare in my opinion

Stowickthevast · 26/10/2024 15:30

I was going to buy Vogue and didn't mind the socks/scarf/mask but the skin machines put me off as I'll never get round to using them. And they're aren't enough wow items in the rest of it to merit the price.

Elodie9 · 26/10/2024 15:45

I have just opened everything in my M and S and for £50 (bought kitchen things which I needed for the £35 spend) it is fabulous!
It doesn't compete with the luxury ranges but for the price it is great.
Just off to re consider the JL now.

Doubleraspberry · 26/10/2024 16:50

Thirsk Aldi raided and they are still well stocked. As she put the sleep masks through the cashier said she’d had someone ask about them a couple of days ago.

Thanks @LivinInYourBigGlassHouseWithAView and @IlovePond

but I have glossy box in my basket, I’ve never ordered from that site before, and I worry that I’m entering a subscription if I order, because there are 2 free trials also added to my basket that I don’t want.

It's ok, they do that all the time with freebies like meal kits but it won't be the subscriptions. You're safe. Just take them off if you don't want them.

My nearby Aldi has the whipped and c peptide moisturisers! Are they any good? Which brand are they, er, inspired by?

OK the Aldi moisturisers are in the style of the inebriated 🐘, right? I've read back a bit now.

IlovePond · 26/10/2024 18:06

I am so pleased @Doubleraspberry - I have been half worrying this pm that you’d go and find the shelves bare🙀

It’s always hard to know how many people read the thread - I had visions of half of North Yorkshire potentially descending on an unsuspecting Thirsk Aldi😹 - it sounds like at least one person was on the hunt for the eye masks!

Speaking of the eye masks - I bought a pack to try - I might give one a whirl tonight.

IlovePond · 26/10/2024 18:08

@JustWhatIAlwaysWanted - speaking as someone who spends far too much on premium skincare, I like the whipped cream Aldi dupe - I used it today. I bought the peptide too, but haven’t tried that one yet.

The sleep oil is fantastic, (wish I had bought more), and the Vit C and turmeric oil is great too.

Thelifeofawife · 26/10/2024 19:05

@JustWhatIAlwaysWanted You are correct, the whipped & peptide creams are DE dupes. They also do Sunday Riley dupes, and various others.
I recently got their Lacura Caviar night cream which is based on La Prairie - so far so good

@Addictedtobeauty you’re in very good company here!

I thought I’d been really good this year but as my H was leaving earlier, I asked him to wait 5 mins as I needed to speak to him (about the garden) and he responded “is it about advent calendars?” with a pained look on his face.

Ha ha, I laughed out loud at this.

I too thought I had been restrained this year but I had a mirror delivered for the house yesterday and this morning DP asked me when it was being delivered and I told him it had come already and was the box in the hall and he sheepishly said 'Oh, I assumed that was another advent calendar'. 😳

Starshine8 · 26/10/2024 19:59

I ordered the M&S calendar as a treat to myself for getting a promotion - it came today - I was actually planning on just opening it all straight away to use but DH thinks I’m cheating. Am I?! I was going to just get a normal chocolate advent calendar for December!

IlovePond · 26/10/2024 20:10

Congrats @Starshine8 - personally I always open on the relevant day in December, but lots of people open on delivery and all at once. What would give you the most pleasure? There’s no right or wrong!

MiaN · 27/10/2024 06:57

Harvey Nics fragrance and beauty are both still available in Dublin store. Little surprised to be honest regarding the fragrance - it's great and we don't have as much choice as UK.

In the outlet I sow Penhaligon's 2023, Molton Brown 2023 (but only 4/5 fragrances of 7.5ml each, not great if fragrance you are after), big Ritual selection and the White Company had offers on too. I am sure there was more but that's all I can remember, I think in the outlets the Penhaligon's is the best at least to my taste.

I do a compromise, I open in advance but just take out 1 or 2 things a day. That way I still get to appreciate each item, but also gives me a bit of time to sell anything unwanted on Vinted before everyone else does.

JL one is out of stock online. I bought the M&S one yesterday after seeing the contents. For a few years it had been pretty repetitive but this year's looks different.

ACAC2023 · 27/10/2024 08:29

I’d really like the Elemis Advent but hoping for a discount. Has anybody had this before/know if it might get discounted?

IlovePond · 27/10/2024 08:45

Hi, there’s 15% off some things at Sephora today and 20% off ‘beauty icons’ at SpaceNK.

HollyGolightly4 · 27/10/2024 08:55

Think that was me @Monpetitchoumonpetitepois ! I absolutely loved Vogue last year- and I psyched myself up to have to turn it down this year, but I was shocked when the contents were released! Absolutely nowhere near as good.

I do want to buy another AC to fill up my vogue from last year, but nothing is really appealing.

Ilikeyoursleeves · 27/10/2024 09:30

I'm thinking of treating myself to either the Jo Malone or Jo Loves Advent Calendar... has anyone had either of these and what did you think???

Yes it was you, I think you were possibly The first to post about purchasing the vogue

MidnightMeltdown · 27/10/2024 10:24

There doesn't seem to be a By Terry Calendar this year. I picked one up last year with a good discount, and it was much better than I expected.

MidnightMeltdown · 27/10/2024 10:33

I notice that Elemis is still available, whereas it sold out really quickly last year. It seems to have some terrible reviews

'53% would recommend'

Oh dear! I wanted to try the Elemis one but always end up with too many multi brand calendars to justify.
