Have I gone dress delulu?

I bought this dress for my upcoming holiday but I suddenly suspect that it's a bit undignified for a 42 year old. It feels lovely and swishy but have I been stupidly seduced by a big discount and a hot day? Or should I keep it?

My legs are very white, it occurs to me, but I'm not really a fake tan girl so that's how they will stay.

It would be ok if longer. You could wear it with leggings.

snowballsintheoven · 31/07/2024 14:56

Nah

It's not very flattering tbh

Ouchfuckingouchmyarse · 31/07/2024 14:59

I actually love it and think it fits/hangs really nicely on you and you have great legs! Not sure it would work with heels as it would make it look shorter I think, but dressed down with the birkies or other chunky flats it's a definite keep from me! I'm 51 btw and I would 100% wear it.

TemuSpecialBuy · 31/07/2024 14:59

It’s awful and looks flammable
(sorry but I’d want to be told)

i imagine it feels really comfy though l!

hsar200 · 31/07/2024 15:02

It looks good on you I think! If you love it, keep it imo

There’s nothing wrong with the length, it’s not exactly flashing her knickers! just because you may feel more comfortable wearing leggings with it doesn’t mean the length is inappropriate.

the dress isn’t my own personal taste but if you walked past me wearing it in the street I wouldn’t think “god that’s awful!” It’s pretty inoffensive.

Lentilweaver · 31/07/2024 15:05

Your age is irrelevant. It's just not a very nice dress, sorry. That frill/tier especially.

GreatScruff · 31/07/2024 15:09

I don't think it needs to be longer at all. It's a good length.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 31/07/2024 15:10

Looks like Ganni

Nice dress OP, I have the maxi version of it if it is.

Not sure the black birkies go particularly well with it

I have a pair of those cheap amazon sandals that tone well with it

For a tunic!

FunIsland · 31/07/2024 15:11

It took me way longer than it should have done to realise that wasn’t the back of your head.

I was trying to work out why your head was on backwards.

I like it though and don’t think it’s too short, you have lovely legs and I’d wear shorts every day if mine looked like yours as opposed to ham hocks.

Overtheatlantic · 31/07/2024 15:11

Not my taste but you have a smashing figure!

Skeldale · 31/07/2024 15:13

I have the Ganni one in a different colour, and I'm 47 for reference! You pop a pair of cycling shorts on underneath which is a look.

Looks great, and if it feels nice then bonus too.

savoycabbage · 31/07/2024 15:14

For a tunic!

What! It's not even that short. Confused

GreatDarkWing · 31/07/2024 15:15

@FunIsland I definitely have my head on correctly in the literal sense (metaphorically perhaps not so much).

JudgeBurrito · 31/07/2024 15:17

I'm not keen, sorry OP. Nothing to do with your age (or you in general), it just looks cheap and 100% polyester. I think it is Ganni, in which case it's expensive and 100% polyester... Polyester is never lovely and swishy. You could find a nicer dress for less cash.

Legomania · 31/07/2024 15:25

Yeah sorry op, I'm not a fan - no issues with length/pattern/style but the combo is a bit much

ETA that I am a very similar age

Legomania · 31/07/2024 15:28

Bignanna · 31/07/2024 15:10

For a tunic!

It's a few inches above the knee! Hardly revealing

TheGirlWhoLived · 31/07/2024 15:30

The length is fine, you have great legs! The middle bit is unusual with the panelling, not very flattering and I don’t like the pattern so I voted take it back

KreedKafer · 31/07/2024 15:33

It fits you well and hangs like it's meant to. Your age is irrelevant. If you like it, keep it!

PragmaticWench · 31/07/2024 15:34

Leg wise it's a find length and you don't need fake tan, go for it.

Chest area isn't very flattering, not sure that area is doing you any favours.

TheOGCCL · 31/07/2024 15:34

That angle isn't the one anyone would look at you from. I think it works. From a fellow pale legged person black shoes makes white look whiter

bostonchamps · 31/07/2024 15:36

I like it a lot.

But if you walked past me wearing it with leggings a la @Bignanna I'd assume we'd gone back to 2003.

Ps love that you're standing on your ottoman to get the picture OP Grin

GreatDarkWing · 31/07/2024 15:37

@JudgeBurrito It is Ganni - it was reduced to £69 so not wildly expensive. I honestly do like the material as it's very light, but I take your point about it being basically plastic.

However I do think the length is ok - I'm pretty short, so I don't always want long dresses.

Espanole · 31/07/2024 15:38

Another one who thought you had a backwards head.

Sorry, OP, but I absolutely hate everything about it. It looks incredibly cheap, its to frilly, the sleeves are horrid, the pattern is vile, the colours are drab, it hangs weirdly and isn't remotely flattering to your lovely figure.

Get rid, OP, you can do and look better!
