Have I gone dress delulu?

I bought this dress for my upcoming holiday but I suddenly suspect that it's a bit undignified for a 42 year old. It feels lovely and swishy but have I been stupidly seduced by a big discount and a hot day? Or should I keep it?

My legs are very white, it occurs to me, but I'm not really a fake tan girl so that's how they will stay.

Oh for goodness sake, it’s only just above the knee

Midi length is more flattering imo

Thank you all again for your interesting views. Update from the GDW household, husband likes it, DD7 says she'd be embarrassed to be seen with me ("frills are humiliating"). I've clarified with DH that he didn't mean as some sort of sex dress-up thing, a suggestion which mostly just confused and alarmed him. Still think I'll give it a whirl for dinner on holiday and see if I get chased out of town.

If it embarrasses the kids you're doing something right 😁

Lentilweaver · 01/08/2024 22:35

It definitely doesn't look like a sex dress up thing. It's not even that short.

Easipeelerie · 01/08/2024 22:48

It’s also the colour. You look like you maybe have Celtic colouring - pale skin and slightly red hair. To my mind you’d look better not wearing anything black. You need lighter and brighter.

GuiltyPleasure · 01/08/2024 23:38

It absolutely looks fine on you OP, but it looks like the sort of thing you'd throw on for lunch after a morning on the beach/pool. More a cover-up than a dress. I'd want something a lot prettier for a holiday dress at that price.

Oh I think it looks lovely! Surprised at the differences of opinion.

GreatDarkWing · 02/08/2024 11:14

@OuterSpaceCadet Well, at least it's a discussable dress. Everything else I'm taking with me is in tastefully neutral linen.

I don't like that either. Also in the video the model is uncomfortably thin?

TomatoSandwiches · 02/08/2024 13:06

Hope you have a lovely time op.

I love the colour of that dress, but it's quite fitted on the waist, and what I like about my much-maligned frock is that it's loose around the middle. Nothing to do with physical insecurities, I just think a looser fit is a bit more current.
