Have I gone dress delulu?

I bought this dress for my upcoming holiday but I suddenly suspect that it's a bit undignified for a 42 year old. It feels lovely and swishy but have I been stupidly seduced by a big discount and a hot day? Or should I keep it?

My legs are very white, it occurs to me, but I'm not really a fake tan girl so that's how they will stay.

Polyester doesn’t swish in the heat, it droops and clings. Not good, sorry.

AnnaMagnani · 31/07/2024 20:00

It doesn't look like a £69 pound dress unfortunately.

It's lovely but at that price I think you were seduced by the discount as it would have been very very cheap for Ganni to make.

Guavafish1 · 31/07/2024 20:01

Looks nice just get a mild build up fake take and wear wedges

BurntBroccoli · 31/07/2024 20:13

It looks nice!

Doginthehand · 31/07/2024 20:19

I love the dress and you look great.

Can't believe people are suggesting leggings or cycling shorts!!!! It is NOT too short and adding leggings would be awful.

I'd add a bit of tan personally but you certainly don't need to.

I'd wear with chunky platform DM sandals.

Mmm there's like 4 comments regarding whether it's flattering, and like 20 regarding the fact it looks cheap. I don't think most people are objecting to it being unflattering (I'm not saying it is or isn't). If you're defending it you clearly like it, so keep it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

It was partly that I thought the question of "flattering" was an interesting tangent.

But also I think I've started feeling warmer towards my Temu Marmite dress, as I'm going to start calling it, now that S&B has concluded it's a bit trashy. Kind of like the dog no-one wants to adopt.
Poor dress. I'll give it a good home. I spend plenty of time looking tasteful and demure in natural fibres, so it will be a change at least.

It looks great on you! X

LoneHydrangea · 31/07/2024 20:32

It’s very unflattering and looks rather cheap. Sorry.

Sidebeforeself · 31/07/2024 20:33

It looks a bit boudoir nightie like they make people wear in those soft focus makeover shots. But you like it so thats what matters!

PlumPeony · 31/07/2024 20:34

Whatever you do, don't add leggings 😂 I voted to go back, you can do better and find actually a nice, summer approtiate dress.

Verite1 · 31/07/2024 20:43

I think it looks way better on you than the model! I quite like it, but don’t love it. I’m not keen on the frill round the middle. But it’s definitely not too short. If you like it (and I think you do), you should keep it.

BobbyBiscuits · 31/07/2024 21:02

Just popping back, as seeing the price- its quite high though? Not being rude but I'd probably pay £30-40 for that max, if not less. If you will wear it a lot then cool, but I reckon you could get something similar for a lot cheaper. The style is cute and suits you though. I'd wear it and I'm older than you.
Idg the leggings under the dress thing? It's either tights or nothing surely?

Redcrayons · 31/07/2024 21:10

I’m not keen on the print so wouldn’t wear it, but it looks nice on you.

BeGiddyHare · 31/07/2024 21:11

Up to you, dress for you, not ur age !!! Though if youre having doubts and its expensive ...

BebbanburgIsMine · 31/07/2024 21:34

The length is fine.

I like the style of the dress, but I hate anything with animal print, I think it makes everything look tacky.

happychristmoose · 31/07/2024 23:02

You look great- wear it!

isthismylifenow · 01/08/2024 11:04

I think it looks nice on you.

I don't know the brand but there is no way I would have paid that price for a dress which seems to be polyester. Even more so for a holiday dress. Is it hot where you are going?

I live in a hot country and would never wear polyester in the heat.

So that would be the only reason I would be against it. It does look more like an Autumn/Winter dress to me.

henlake7 · 01/08/2024 11:42

You look great and if you like then wear it!

Personally I think its ok for a cheapie, throw on holiday dress but if it cost alot I would expect better....but leopard print is always fab anyway!😁

its lovely!!! Wear what you love

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/08/2024 14:05

It's nice on you but not with the birkies.

Is the holiday abroad? If so, then to me it doesn't look right. If you're going on holiday somewhere hot then that might be too sweaty to wear and it's quite a wintry colour.

I think it would be lovely for cooler weather, with different shoes/sandals. Or in winter with tights and boots. But for a warm summer holiday, nope, sorry.
You have a lovely figure OP.

pictoosh · 01/08/2024 14:09

You have a good figure and the dress fits and hangs correctly. Unfortunately the dress is horrible.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 01/08/2024 16:49

The length is fine OP, is that what you are worried about? Plus you have great legs, so you should show them off!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you were asking for people's opinions if they liked the dress, just if it was appropriate for your age? It doesn't matter if other people don't like it, if YOU like it and feel great in it, then keep it 💯

PinkyPonkyLittleDonkey · 01/08/2024 16:51

Nice for around the house. Seriously. But I don’t think it’s to be be worn outside.

BurntBroccoli · 01/08/2024 17:05

I think it looks nice with the sandals too.

ImNotThereAmI · 01/08/2024 17:31

Bignanna · 31/07/2024 15:10

For a tunic!

Oh for goodness sake, it’s only just above the knee
