Can I wear this to a wedding?

Can I wear something like this to a wedding (with heels)? I suit slightly 50s styles and this colour, and I'd like sleeves (it's an autumn wedding, and a Catholic one). Is it too teacher like?
And any idea for accessories?

Yes

Beebumble2 · 20/07/2024 18:19

Looks too plain and casual for a wedding, but you could add accessories to glitz it up.

KnickerlessParsons · 20/07/2024 18:22

It's more something I'd wear to an office. Thought I like it a lot.

olympicsrock · 20/07/2024 18:25

It’s too casual in my opinion .

strawberry2017 · 20/07/2024 18:26

I can't see anything

strawberry2017 · 20/07/2024 18:26

Whoops sorry missed the link 😂

strawberry2017 · 20/07/2024 18:27

Potentially with the right accessories you could make it work.

And to be honest I did think to myself that I can keep it to wear to the office after the wedding 😅

Looks a bit casual to me. Again something I'd wear to the office in the summer

smallmountainbear · 20/07/2024 18:31

No, it’s far too casual. You’ll look like you’ve not bothered to make an effort at all.

Tinatheterror · 20/07/2024 18:33

I think with bangles and jewellery it will be nice and I like the colours.

EmoConfused · 20/07/2024 18:34

Would a similar style without the collar and the buttons work? Is that what pushes it into the office category?

I think the collar has office vibes, yes, but the basic shape/style is fine. What colour do you have in mind, and do you already have the shoes? You will need to go slightly smarter with accessories, but be careful not to clash materials if the dress is cotton. I would go with a 50s style bag (small handbag with short strap and clippy fastening, material not leather) and pearl earrings/accessories. Possibly a hairband of some kind as another nod to the 50s vibe. But it depends on the colour of the dress.

BuntyCollocks · 20/07/2024 18:43

Far too casual.

This is helpful, thank you! I might look for something similar minus the collar. I'd like to stay on a red (looks good on me). I don't have much in the way of shoes and bags, but that worries me less than the dress and I can pick them up later on.

@EmoConfused

Hearts and Roses have dresses with a 50s style to them.

Much of the stock is sleeveless and summery at the moment, but they should have more suitable items with sleeves by the time you need to have bought something.

ebadame · 20/07/2024 19:09

You can wear something like that but that version looks cheap and plasticky

WhatWillIWear · 20/07/2024 19:13

What @ebadame says. It looks entirely perfunctory.

Do you have a budget limit?

This is available up to a size 10:

Another store which has dresses with a 50s look is Collectif. There's one near me and I can confirm that the garments are well made. They do gorgeous coats in the winter too!

Again, current stock is summer and sleeveless, but keep an eye on their website to see the new styles for the autumn and winter.

This would be wonderful for a wedding if it’s in budget and you fit one of the remaining sizes:

Ganni dress

NextFriYAY · 20/07/2024 19:26

As previous have said, it’s a decent dress for work but not for a wedding.

The shape is good if that suits you (looks horrendous on short waisted, long legged, tall me) but you’ll be able to find far better for a wedding.

I’d look for that ‘swing’ shape but wide sleeveless, deep V and in a deep jewel colour (for autumn). Something like this: (next post - edited as thought I’d be able to upload)

Another vote for this brand, they do lovely 50s style dresses that are a bit more dressy, the line linked is work-wear imo.

I mean, if a point is worth making… 🙄
