Can I wear this to a wedding?

Can I wear something like this to a wedding (with heels)? I suit slightly 50s styles and this colour, and I'd like sleeves (it's an autumn wedding, and a Catholic one). Is it too teacher like?
And any idea for accessories?

@EmoConfused

One last one, which I just remembered - the Pretty Dress Company, they do nice dresses with a full skirt.

I think it is perhaps a little casual but I like the look. I love a good fifties dress!

How about something like this ...? To me, it has a similar style and has sleeves.
The Jolie Moi dresses that I have are good quality and well-cut.

Way too casual imo.

SausageRoll2020 · 20/07/2024 20:35

It's way to casual for a wedding, it would look like you couldn't be bothered to make an effort.

ebadame · 20/07/2024 20:46

What? That looks terrible

DappledThings · 20/07/2024 20:49

It's fine. It's not dressed up glam but it's perfectly smart. And much more appropriate for a church than many of the things people do wear for weddings.

You don't have to be wearing something that looks like an evening dress to count as appropriate. Casual is better than nightclub

OneNiftyPoet · 20/07/2024 21:46

Um, it's polyester. If you care nothing for the planet then yes, wear it. Cheap fast fashion like this is polluting this beautiful world. Every time you wash polyester the fibres get into the environment. Should be banned in my opinion. And it looks cheap.

GoldFrame · 20/07/2024 21:49

No. Too casual

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 20/07/2024 21:50

i actually tried this on in tk maxx the other day and definitely not wedding appropriate- way too casual - the material isn’t great tbh.
Would be fine for work tho.

I think you forgot to add ‘in my opinion’ as well as your manners

EmoConfused · 20/07/2024 22:25

Thanks for all the links and recommendations! I really like the etsy link, is it ok even though it's still has a collar and buttons?

For an autumn Catholic wedding that looks utterly ridiculous in my opinion

Ok

CaMcC · 21/07/2024 00:01

Beautiful shape but maybe a bit too low cut for a Catholic wedding? And shoulders plus lower back on show could be tricky for the chapel, depends on how much of a stickler the priest and/or family are.

MillicentMaybe · 21/07/2024 00:02

No, it looks cheap.

Both dresses meet the criteria for a Catholic Church. If you're concerned about being too casual maybe ask around and see if you can find out what other guests are wearing? Otherwise as sussarations said, you can style up with accessories and maybe a fascinator if they're still in style. I would not know.

wanttogetadvice · 21/07/2024 00:06

You can wear this dress but will have to style it differently than in a work environment. Probably with a nice tie scarf or statement necklace, nice bracelet and some hair accessories. Bag needs to be more colourful and not in the same colour as dress and match the shoes with the bag.

BCBird · 21/07/2024 00:09

Far too casual. House of Foxy do some nice stuff- not cheap though.

This is lovely, OP! If your budget allows, I'd go with this.

NextFriYAY · 21/07/2024 07:33

@CaMcC fair points - I meant this shape / silhouette more than this exact dress.

Agreed. At the wedding I was at yesterday that dress would have fitted in fine. There was a range of outfits but a lot of them were very casual everyday outfits.

For the posters who are decrying polyester that dress is polyester too. It's not nicer than the OP's choice for a lot more money.
