Getting confused with all.messages so is this frumpy or suitable

Frumpy, in my opinion. Also there’s a fair chance guests will look at phase eight. I’m 54 and wouldn’t even consider that.

What’s your ideal budget, ?

It’s not exactly frumpy, but I think you need a longer length dress

That would be lovely, then!

GoldFrame · 17/07/2024 17:57

I found this on next website. Looks flattering, classy and comfortable. You could wear your shoes and maybe a gold clutch bag, maybe even a narrow gold belt depending on the design in real life. Nice hair and makeup and you’d be ready!

I love that Wiggy Kit skirt - I’m to save that for DS’s school graduations!! I’d save it for a ‘MOB’ outfit but I’d say that is at least a decade away!

This is from last season- similar vibe but with a co ordinating top.

Thank you I'm still looking so you think my photo I put up is OK to wear I ain't on top table and didn't want to go over the top as I've been told I'm nothing special I'm just a guest

What? That's not a nice thing to be told!

MounjaroUser · 17/07/2024 18:28

@mnhq That picture gallery showing all the images in one go is amazing, thank you!

bridgetreilly · 17/07/2024 18:32

This

with these if you can manage the heels.

eggplant16 · 17/07/2024 18:40

I feel some hurt here re top table. All I can suggest is, if you can let it go.

Also let go of these MOB type outfits. John Lewis personal stylist is good and no pressure to buy.

You are special, you are young. You are you , not MOB.

astarsheis · 17/07/2024 19:37

Bignanna · 15/07/2024 22:52

And frumpy!

I agree! MOB outfits are all pretty hideous and frumpy.

eggandonion · 17/07/2024 19:40

We are currently involved in discussions re whether a top table is a necessity.

I like the Hobbs dress! I also like a big hat for status!
Models in online sites tend to be size 8 and tall. I am neither.
Recycled polyester is everywhere.

Lentilweaver · 17/07/2024 19:40

If I were told I wasnt important, I would splurge and wear the gorgeous Wiggy Kit skirt or dress and make myself very important. Unless I have misread your post. I wouldn't want to be not showy.

This is a great suggestion, OP.

edited as I've just seen it's jersey. It would be too casual for MOB, sadly

GoldFrame · 17/07/2024 20:15

I don’t think so. I’d wear it dressed up a little, and I think it’s very elegant.

It's lovely @imfromwales
Some people on this thread have been quite rude.

I think some might be fashion writers or designers rather than normal people who wear normal clothes.

I was at a wedding only last month, and the outfit you have chosen would be spot on. Even better that you have such pretty shoes that you already know are comfortable. I think finding shoes that are both stylish and comfortable is an absolute nightmare.

Kitkat1523 · 17/07/2024 20:32

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 15/07/2024 21:49

This is a good example. Simple, elegant and not showy.

Oooo no

eggandonion · 17/07/2024 20:46

If a dress isn't polyester it is jersey. I don't have a great choice of shops nearby and every manufacturer has its own sizes.
Hiring hats is straightforward and much more fun.

GoldFrame · 17/07/2024 20:53

Jersey is good if you’re not slim. I speak from experience. It is forgiving and easy to wear. And the dress I posted is not frumpy

deeahgwitch · 17/07/2024 20:59

There was a thread a few weeks ago back where a stylist answered questions asked by posters.
I have searched and searched and can't find it for you @imfromwales but perhaps someone on this thread remembers it and can link it for you. The stylist would be very helpful with her options.

eggandonion · 17/07/2024 21:00

@GoldFrame Jersey gets the thumbs down on mumsnet wedding threads. I agree that it is comfortable and the linked dress is nice. So many rules on these threads!

EllenLRipley · 17/07/2024 21:10

I was taught that the word frumpy is misogynistic - some clothes are 'safe' yes - many men make safe choices, unflattering is also valid. What does frumpy mean in a male context? Genuine question

Somepeoplearesnippy · 17/07/2024 21:17

I will be MOB soo . I bought this from Rixo. Sadly it's a little too light weight for a winter wedding but I'm keeping it anyway because it's gorgeous.
