Well yes, it's safe without being strait jacketed into MoB.

Oh - I was referring to Me and Em’s new hyper-popularity via association with the new Prime Minister’s wife and members of the Cabinet!

Anyway, @imfromwales - this thread will have reassured you that we all have different ideas of what’s desirable or suitable for important members of a wedding party. Obviously liaise with your daughter but don’t feel constrained by any ideas but your own.

Me + Em have interesting dresses
Me + Em

And depends on budget, but it would be difficult not to find something stylish at Max Mara
Max Mara

Both those are prohibitively expensive for many

DisneyHag · 16/07/2024 15:51

Possibly you haven’t seen just how much people claim to have spent on their weddings on another recent thread, @Bignanna?

MN is a broad church - for all the SAHMs being financially abused by miserly husbands, there are plenty of others in well paying professional jobs. And people like me who prioritise clothes throughout decades of rising or falling fortune. I tend to assume most people on S&B care about style and are open to reading about brands and stores that might not be their own choice.

Lentilweaver · 16/07/2024 16:05

If only posters would specify a budget it would be so much easier.

Notellinganyone · 16/07/2024 16:25

Bignanna · 15/07/2024 22:52

And frumpy!

Massively. M 57 and wouldn’t be seen dead in that.

Onthegrid · 16/07/2024 16:27

For a church/hotel type wedding I would be looking for a good dress in a style that I know suits me, probably floral with at least decent short sleeves and knee length, but that is because that is where I am comfortable, sleepless, fitted and short wouldn't work anymore. I'd want it to be a step up from my normal wardrobe and probably more expensive, I'd also want to accessorise well with jewellery, bag and shoes. I am not a hat lover so if I could get away without one I would. If I could find a jacket or wrap to cover all weather unpredictability I would feel better. I am neither this thin or this young but this is the style

Onthegrid · 16/07/2024 16:30

Link failed

Moveoverdarlin · 16/07/2024 16:34

How old are you OP? My Mum was 64 when I got married and looked knockout in a John Charles outfit, it was pricey though…but my best friend got married at 23 and her Mum was only 44 and wore a Karen Millen dress and looked amazing.

Like others have said, it depends on your age and style. Are you going for Carole Middleton vibes or Tess Daly?

Janie143 · 16/07/2024 16:35

@Cookerhood Where did you find that dress. It is beautiful 😍

I'm quite taken by Wiggy Kit too.
Wiggy Kit

Thought it had gone mad on here, but you saved the day, this is beautiful.

crinkletits · 16/07/2024 16:54

Beulah, The Fold, Karen Millen, Max Mara and Hobbs.

mitogoshi · 16/07/2024 16:55

I've bought a dress from SilkFred for my DDs wedding. Just below the knee and no matching coat! There no rules, wear a style that suits you

mitogoshi · 16/07/2024 17:03

@Sillystrumpet
Yes that is nice, some of the suggestions are just bizarre @DisneyHag what were you thinking?
@Lostsadandconfused suggestion is nice too

Obviously it would be a less interesting world if we all liked the same things but the key point is don't upstage the bride, so your outfit should not be the major talking point of the day (whether due to being too short, too experimental, too bridal or "what on earth was she thinking") not a day to experiment with new looks either

mitogoshi · 16/07/2024 17:07

@DisneyHag

To be honest I couldn't find anything in me and em suitable for a wedding when I looked 2 months ago, all are so matt fabric wise and I don't think they suit over a size 10.

FangsForTheMemory · 16/07/2024 17:17

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 15/07/2024 21:49

This is a good example. Simple, elegant and not showy.

I think the word you want is 'elegant'!

Fingeronthebutton · 16/07/2024 17:38

I’m 77 so I’d probably wear something like this.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 16/07/2024 17:55

I don't understand all the references to age. Do posters think that something magically happens at 50 or 60 or 70 which makes dresses they wouldn't be seen dead in at age 49 acceptable for 50+1 day?

How dare you have the audacity care about your appearance once you turn 50! Mutton!

DisneyHag · 16/07/2024 18:12

*@DisneyHag what were you thinking?

About what?

NewName24 · 16/07/2024 18:17

that's lovely @Cookerhood

I also like the one @Lostsadandconfused shared.

I presume DisneyHag 's were some sort of a joke, that has gone right over my head?

Sleepless ? You don’t need to lose sleep over it!😀

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 16/07/2024 18:37

Cefinn and Beulah are good calls. Wearable dressy dresses ; don't scream MOB; can be worn over and over afterwards to anything that needs a dressy dress. Cefinn's prices are reasonable too.

Tryonemoretime · 16/07/2024 19:22

Watching with interest!
