I think there was one a few months/weeks back but can't find it, so apologies if doubling up.
What perfume are you wearing today?
I will wear Atelier Cologne Trefle Pur in hope it will actually be warm today.

It's nice to see other people have evening scents!
I WFH so exercise then shower after work and it seems natural to then put perfume on so I "wear" it technically to bed every night

I wear essential oil to bed, could be just pure essential oil or blended, like AA. Helps me doze off ☺️

IDontHateRainbows · 28/11/2024 08:24

SOTD is Marc Jacobs Daisy Wild today. Having a break from the Byredo. Bought this a while back and gave it to my daughter - it's nice but I don't love it.

AprilLady · 28/11/2024 08:33

Trying Serge Lutyens Une Bois Vanille again today. Sense of smell is better than Monday, but still not right. It’s a bit like seeing the black and white outline of a picture rather than the picture in its full colour glory.

I’m finding it really hard, and it has made me realise just how much pleasure I get from the daily ritual of choosing a scent, putting it on, then catching whiffs of it as I wear it through the day.

MiaN · 28/11/2024 09:30

Ginger Biscuit Jo Malone today and will go for Orange Bitters tonight for exercise class. I have 9ml (half gone) from Orange Bitters, I don't think I will repurchase but I am enjoying it.

Does anyone recommend a set of samples or another way I could gently broaden my fragrances?

The best deal in my opinion is the Byredo grand discovery kit, 24 x 2ml samples and a voucher for a full bottle. Not cheap though at £180.

Alternatively there's a really nice scent lit on liberty now, £120 with 10% discount for members.

IDontHateRainbows · 28/11/2024 12:28

Managed to find a decent sample of mojave ghost absolu from scent samples.

I've given up on the original MG, wears off far too quick and the rollerball on the oil one has stopped working so I've sent it back.

Who makes burning cherry???

MiaN · 28/11/2024 12:43

Kayali Lovefest Burning Cherry. I love it, but it does need reapplying as most cherry scents do.

Deathraystare · 28/11/2024 12:55

@MiaN

Kayali - these are the ones I saw in Boots I think The ones I smelt were sickly sweet. Presumed they were for pre-teens. How is the cherry one?

MiaN · 28/11/2024 13:00

Try it if you can, I really like this one but fragrance is personal. It's not juvenile in my opinion or very sweet, the only thing I would change if I can is the longevity.

I do have an old sample of this languishing in a drawer. Liked it before, will dig it out for a spritz now.

I find the Kayali scents a bit hit and miss. I like the vanilla 28 and I enjoyed the pistachio but wouldn't rp. None of them have I ever felt inclined to buy a full bottle and I do find some a bit sickly bit they are undoubtedly a fun brand.

MiaN · 28/11/2024 14:00

I don't care for the brand to be honest, apart from this perfume. She is expert in social media and knows how to generate interest.

I love Lovefest Burning Cherry
I think Capri in a Bottle Lemon Sugar and Musk 12 are nice, but still I wouldn't buy full bottle.

I don't mind on others
Yum Pistachio Gelato
Wedding Silk Santal
Wedding Velvet Santal

I didn't like and they definitely have a similar Kayali sweet dna, that doesn't appeal to me
Vanilla 28
Utopia Vanilla Coco
Marrakesh in a Bottle Orange Blossom
Maui in a Bottle Sweet Banana
Maldives in a Bottle Ylang Coco
Eden Sparkling Lychee

Out of probably close to 30 perfumes I have tried from Byredo I only wanted 2, and liked 2/3 more. Out of around 10 of Perfumes de Marly I hated about 7, love 2 and still to test one. Any bigger perfume house would try to appeal to variety of buyers so I feel this is normal. Even with the advents, if I find 3 that are big hits I count it as success. So while I get that they have a lot of sweet scents, perhaps targeted to younger market I think they have large enough collection to offer options to different tastes if you are open to explore them.

What I am trying to say is that it's easy to test few perfumes and decide the brand is not for you. I tried Delina and Delina Exclusive and I said yes, PDM are not my thing. But after trying sample set, I found my current favourite perfume of all and another I really love. I think getting sample set or mixed boxes/advents is great way to explore perfumes and what other people say about a perfume should not lead to full bottle purchase without trying as it is so personal

I love the idea of the discovery set, especially as you get the code for a full sized bottle. Might ask for this for my birthday! Thanks!

Deathraystare · 28/11/2024 16:08

@MiaN
Thanks re the Cherry fragrance. The wedding santal sounds interesting. I will have another sniff of the things in Boots if they are the ones I am thinking of but I did sense that those I smelt were for youngsters who like sweet things!

paristotokyo · 28/11/2024 17:14

@happytobemrsg personally I'd order a few that I liked the sound of from from a perfume sampling website where they decant into 1/2/5ml for example for you to test. What do you like in a fragrance? Some perfume houses aren't for everyone so this could be a way to try lots from different ones.

happytobemrsg · 28/11/2024 18:05

@paristotokyo The problem is, I don’t know what it is that I like, but I’ve had/ loved these in the past:

Daytime:
V&R Flowerbomb
Jo Malone Poppy & Barley
Louis Vuitton Rose Des Vents

Nighttime/winter:
Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud (bought this year for Christmas)
Louis Vuitton Matier Noir (not purchased, loved from afar)

I have no idea what (if anything) these have in common so I find it really hard to pick a new one.

Howmanyroses · 28/11/2024 18:31

None of the Byredos bar Lil Fleur last on me, or maybe it's that the more recently manufactured ones are weaker? I am really disappointed, as I really do like a few of them, but I can't justify the purchase considering the lack of longevity and the high price tag. Tried Maison Marguela Under the Stars today and its absolutely revolting, it might be out that I am reacting to perhaps

hughiedoesntfight · 28/11/2024 18:48

The salt works discovery set is good. £29 and I got a £25 voucher in it to spend on a full size or travel sizes

I find Kayali an odd brand. Nothing amazing at first. But I have had the new one and the vanilla 28 in 10ml and found the dry down (on both) to be quite addictive.

I have had always had compliments when I have worn them. And I was quite sad when I ran out of vanilla 28. Keep flipping and flopping on whether to get the full size.

I have only worn the new one for one full day. Again, after about 10 mins I really liked it and got lots of compliments.

Only last about 3-4 hours. I am contemplating getting a 10ml wedding silk sandal now it’s back.

Vanilla 28 comes in 10ml bottles, which lasts a while. There is currently a vanilla dreams gift set with 4 x 10ml including vanilla 28. Currently on offer as part of BF.

Yeah it was the 10ml I had last time.

I think they are great size. Get plenty of uses to really get a feel. I added the to the brands I love on Sephora as dd will probably ask for one for Christmas.

The vanilla dreams might be a good shout. I can try a few and if I don’t any dd can have them.

MiaN · 29/11/2024 05:21

Tried two from the cult beauty gwp last night Ouai Dean Street - lovely shower fresh scent with shockingly poor longevity and Fresh Lily Jasmine - great sping flowers in garden type of scent, the plants with the stem. They are not going on travel size or full bottle wish list but I will keep the samples for travel. I am keeping the SpaceNK fragrance advent box to organise my samples

MiaN · 29/11/2024 06:06

Scent of the day Ginger Biscuit Jo Malone. It lasted full day yesterday. I was really impressed considering it's Jo Malone.

hughiedoesntfight · 29/11/2024 06:43

I have older kids (one at uni and a mid teen) am I the only one that has a ‘public’ perfume collection that their kids are welcome to try and the a secret hidden on with ones that are kept all to themselves.

Just been through my samples sorting them into the ones I consider my precious and hid in my bedroom and then put the others in my office so they can both have a sniff and wear test them.

Then realised I think it’s a bit weird.
