All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

What a busy thread!

Congrats Chutney!

Oh dear Enid! I'm obsessive about what I (don't) send in emails/put in writing. My big mouth gets me into enough trouble ...like when I called the (ex)boss two-faced and he overheard, lol. I did apologise for talking about him - but told him I stood by what I said. That was embarrassing enough, lol. and ew at emails about boils, eugh.

How's DH, www? I thought yoyo was asking about food too

Another carbmonster here, I'm afraid, plus pmt getting worse the older I get, Oh the joys.

Oliveoil · 29/04/2008 21:23

I remember flicking the V's at my boss all the time behind the wall that was near his desk

only to sit at his desk once and see MY desk reflected in the window at the side

unknownrebelbang · 29/04/2008 21:24

DH gets all sorts of emails for an inspector who shares the same surname.

Mind, I used to get to speak to said inspector more than DH at one time, even though I've never met him, they always used to put me through to him, rather than DH.

I mean - how difficult is it?

One's an inspector, one's a sergeant.

One's called Nigel, one's called Robert?

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 2 mile hike. No bike.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream. Will do at bedtime.
  • Use hand cream yy - throughout the day.
  • Go to bed early, 11ish.
  • Eat healthily. Another good day...until I saw the crispy chicken skin.
  • Be happy, well apart from DS1 being a pita and missing his bus again (he gets up early enough, then prats about) so having to take him to school, and everyone yapping at work, another reasonable day.
marina · 29/04/2008 22:04

Evening all!
LOLing at some of these other e-mail slips, nice to know we're not alone eh enid.
CHUTNEY! What did you get up to under your tarpaulin, I wonder
Congratulations on the roof and your wonderful news, although we do expect you to morph into Duchess and L&S mid-trimester - rebuild chicken coops and fight with your neighbours, you realise!
Am also lardy carbmonster and nursing another bout of cystitis (blub). Other than that, a good day.
Yoyo, your Waitrose joke is in poor taste - do you not realise that MrWWW is even now upon the rack of food-poisoning ?

WideWebWitch · 30/04/2008 08:41

Hello all

I went to bed despairing at 9.30 last night as I saw a recent photo of me that made me want to cry. So, from Sat I am considering India and Neris, if anyone would like to join me. It's hardcore Atkins for 2 weeks, no carbs and sugar basically and no booze. I want to be a size 14 by October at the latest. Woke at 7.15 and feel terrible despite no booze and lots of sleep.

dh is better, slept right through but has been dodgy again this morning and hence is off work and grumpy. We both had salmonella when I was pregnant with dd and if he has got that it#s a LOT nicer than that was.

tharsheblows · 30/04/2008 09:36

I am laughing reading the email mis-sends. Arse boils have never been so funny. I'm glad it worked out for you Enid, phew.

Congrats on pregnancy, Chutney!

Duchess, good luck in the home stretch. Am amazed you're so active in the last bit, I was behaving and looking like a beached whale at that point in both pregnancies.

WWW, know how you feel. The room with the gym class in it was mirrored, it wasn't a great feeling. I'm can't do their diet, but found everything else in the book really inspiring.

Food ok-ish yesterday - had lunch with my son, lovely but too expensive (in the 'not worth it' sense) Italian after physio. High on happiness at least. No exercise but all others ticked, yay, and am going to gym at lunchtime. I am determined to lose the rest of the weight - have been plateaued for a while now.

marina · 30/04/2008 10:18

WWW, I am signing up to Slimming World this evening after two considerably svelter pals have lost half a stone in a fortnight
I am not sure I am hardcore Atkins but I gather Slimming World is carbs-light and I need to break some bad habits
Good luck
I'll be your off-board weight loss chum if you like

Mrsryder · 30/04/2008 11:14

Marina have emailed your B email address, thank you!

Mrsryder · 30/04/2008 11:16

Sorry that post to marina is on the wrong thread, ignore me.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 30/04/2008 21:11

Congratulations CM. I hope the sickness passes soon.

I've done too much today and now everything aches. DH in London again until late (attack dog new investors headboy is really grilling everyone). So lots of mucking out and hefting hay about and so on. And I keep getting rained on. Why must it always rain at 3pm in time for school?

I have eaten cheese & ham croissant; iron supplement; apple; two small pieces of quiche and green salad; Cadburys Mini-Roll; baked potato with cheese & salad; half G&B White Chocolate bar. Only 1 litre of water. Several raw carrots.

Face & hands yes. Self-tanning lotion in lieu of body butter. Must use Flexitol daily for awhile as my feet are suddenly peeling & flaking on the soles. Quite a good nights sleep again.

unknownrebelbang · 30/04/2008 22:28

I'm so excited!! DH has booked a cruise for us for next Easter (sod the fact we've nothing sorted for August, lol). Need something cheap and cheerful now, hehe.

49 weeks = 3 and a half stone at a pound a week.

If only....

unknownrebelbang · 30/04/2008 22:42

Oh www, I don't quite know what to say. I spent years avoiding mirrors, and am not a big fan now. A couple of weeks of cutting carbs wouldn't go amiss here, not sure how hardcore I can go.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • No exercise
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream. Will do at bedtime.
  • Use hand cream yy
  • Go to bed early, 11ish.
  • Eat healthily. Another reasonable day, apart from the Burnt Sugar Choc Fudge I've devoured tonight.
  • Be happy - my weekend starts now plus the cruise-booking - my cup runneth over!
tortoiseSHELL · 01/05/2008 09:59

My baby boy is 2 today, how can that be possible? He is still my baby!! We had a bit of a stressful morning as the children really wanted him to open their presents before school, but it was all a bit of a rush. However, we gave him ds1's old wooden train set, (mean parents), and a battery operated Percy so he is happily sitting watching it go round the track, calling out 'Booooo' which is his word for train!!!

www, photographs and mirrors are notoriously deceptive - think of all those hideous 'celebrtiy' pics of them looking rough! Sorry your dh has been ill!

Congratulations CM!!!!! All these babies, makes me feel VERY broody. That is a good incentive for me actually, as I would really like another one, but I also want to lose some weight before even thinking about it....

LoveAndSqualor · 01/05/2008 14:24

Hello all!

Apologies for extended absence ... have just been reading and catching up, so firstly congrats Chutney! Great news, thrilled for you. Duchess, I had just such an unmentionable pain - unfortunately made the mistake of mentioning it, in detail, to childless friends over dinner - knives and forks were replaced and blood drained from faces.

And lolol at all the email tales. We've had some corkers at my work (including one that made it into Private Eye's street of shame - colleague mailed something deeply unflattering about a student journalist to her boss - or so she thought ... ). Worst I've done is sign off an email to a foreign correspondent with xxxxxxxxxxx - I'd been mailing a friend and then switched over to write a work mail. Not awful but deeply cringey - worse because he happened to be really rather dashing. Decided that writing to say 'I didn't mean to send you all those kisses' would only compound the cringe.

All well here - though now five weeks post-birth, am thinking it's time to stop eating all the pies and start contemplating the odd bit of exercise. Not today though - lovely colleague just biked over to bring me lunch and tell me all the work gossip, and have to go out and do my bit in keeping Boris Johnson out of power, then have friend coming over for tea ... Plus, I got someone else's shopping in my sainsbury's order this morning, so I now have a Sarah Lee chocolate gateau to dispose of .

On the plus side, bootcampwise, have been bodybrushing!

yoyo · 01/05/2008 16:44

Went out for supper last night but it was a light main course followed by a rather yummy chocolate confection. Enjoyed both and a couple of glasses of wine.

It was my last blow out as I signed up with a Personal Trainer and parted with the cash yesterday (gulp) so will feel way too guilty if I go and put in all that effort then stuff myself silly or drink a glass too many. First session on Sunday..

I bought the India book when it came out but just can't do the Atkins-style eating. It does seem to work for most people and weight loss seems very quick. Good luck if you decide to do it WWW.

Marina - have you joined SW?

I loathe mirrors and photos too.

moonshine · 01/05/2008 17:27

Congratulations Chutney!

WWW - I actively avoid the camera and was joyful when I was on hols and could not have my photograph taken for work matters. But today they 'surprised' me with a photographer who made me go outside at lunchtime and contort myself awkwardly into unnatural poses in front of 2 assistants holding big black and white boards and loads of gawking people hanging from windows. Talk about wanting the earth to open up there and then and swallow me whole. And, to cap it all, when the photographer and assistant went thru the pics in front of me they pulled concerned faces and said 'that one will be ok' in a desultory manner. I think I may allow myself a glass of wine tonight.

I still have not been to the gym. Will go tomorrow. Food-wise I have been very good but has it made the slightest bit of difference (rhetorical question) - bah, no. Trouble is, in all things, I like to see instant results, which is why when I do go to the gym I get frustrated when I am not instantly fit and toned and, after a few days of no alcohol and healthy eating, I expect to rival Madonna.

But, d'you know what, it may be my imagination but I think my sludge brown knees are fading ever so slightly. Now if only I can remembe to persist with the cream....

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/05/2008 19:41

Happy Birthday Toddler-Tortoise! Did you celebrate?

ureb - Regale me with your cruise details as I won't be going anywhere for ages!

L&S - I don't think you need to start bootcamping already, it's important to fully recover before ignoring other peoples chocolate gateaux.

yoyo - personal trainer. That's very serious!

moonshine - sympathy for photo session. I hate work photo's more than any other sort - mostly because they get published. I refuse to do them these days!

Another busy day. Back good, pelvis bad. I missed breakfast and had late morning crab & mayo & salad sandwich instead. Lots of raw carrots and apples. Paella for dinner. Lots of water.

I am finally getting tired. I have periods through the day where I can't stop yawning. With PFB I would have had an afternoon nap but no such luck these days.

WideWebWitch · 01/05/2008 21:18

DofN, you are FINALLY gtting tired? You are amazing, well done!

thanks for all the commiserations,I tihnk India and Neris will work for me because I want FAST results and give up if I don't get them. It will be hard, I know.

Drank wine last night after row with dh and then slept on sofa in a strop and woke up, got up, clock on video said 6.15, which is my getting up time, then went into kitchen and only realised AFTER drinking strong coffee that it was actually 5.15, doh.

So, in preparation for diet and because of knackeredness/having had wine combination I ate WONDERFULLY today, feast your eyes on this:

wholemeal toast, butter, lime marmalade
white toast and butter and Marmite
cheese flavoured Doritos
can of Coke (! I v rarely have this)
lime and coriander sandwich
yoghurt covered nuts
singapore noodles
crispy duck and hoi sin but accidentally cooked pancakes in their plastic wrapper at same time so no pancakes
and wine

yum
but I start in EARNEST on India's thing on Saturday after last blow out carb fest with a dodgy woman tomorrow night

L&S, lovely to see you!

and the rest of you too, can't believe your ds is 2 ts!

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 30 mins exercise bike and I dragged DS2+DS3 swimming, so I swam, steamed and slathered.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream. done.
  • Use hand cream yy
  • Go to bed early, Stupid O'clock, but lie-in this morning.
  • Eat healthily. A Good Day.
  • Be happy - hmm, pleasant enough day, but DH had to take DS2 to A&E this time. A (smaller) child ran into him and his head clattered DS2's mouth. They think a tooth is loose, so we now have to get him an emergency appt at the dentist tomorrow to check him over. He has a glorious fat lip.
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/05/2008 08:44

Er Hello

I seem to be bootcamping on a weekly basis rather than daily at the moment. Poor show. Still have poorly knee but have not drunk again this week to compensate and will even try to abstain over the weekend.

Cruise sounds fab ureb; we need more info. Hope the trip to the dentist goes OK today. And your ward has avoided having a BNP councillor.

Congrats Chutney.

L&S - I can't believe you are five weeks post birth already!!

Norks - please put your feet up. You're making me feel tired lol!

Talking of photographs, it's staff school photos day today. I supposed to be going in specially . I think I may conveniently forget. I'm 44 and I don't think I have a photo of myself I actually like. Well, maybe one when I was about 7!

LoveAndSqualor · 02/05/2008 10:21

Morning all,

Well, the gateau remains intact - but only because a schoolfriend popped round for a visit, bringing droolsome M&S chocolate orange biscuits ... I had five a couple. Ace. Then a quick walk in the park. Alas, DS decided to pull a Slow Loris on me last night and wake up roughly every hour, which was extremely tiresome of him - we're both a bit zonked this morning, but am determined to try to keep him awake to avoid a repeat performance tonight.

Oooh, WWW your accidental earliness story reminds me of Three Men in a Boat - have you read it? - where George gets up early thinking he's late and goes out to work, but it's actually about 4am and a policeman gets cross with him for loitering ... hilarious. Did you try to go back to sleep, or just sit it out?

Off out to make the most of the sun. Have good days, everyone

moonshine · 02/05/2008 15:09

Good luck with the India/Neris diet. I've never actually followed a 'proper' diet like Aktins/WW/SW (could explain a lot )- and CD doesn't really count as tis no food so I shall follow your progress with especial interest.

When is your edd Duchess - surely really not long now??

I've been to the gym but was rubbish - I blame the Dance channel I usually find myself in front of - I've never considered myself a prude but some of the videos on it are beyond soft porn.

But I alway worry just before a weekend, even though I've already put the wine in the fridge. Oops, just realised must go do the school-run. have a good one all.

WideWebWitch · 02/05/2008 18:55

I am not fit (in every way ) to be your leader. Won't even mention the burger at lunch time...

going out tonight so will drink and eat and be merry, will start a new thread first...
