All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

DONG QUAI? Are you 'aving a larf?

I want to kill with pmt/pms too. But buy things and then never remember to take them.

DofN, thanks for the being bashed in the fanny descriptions, def not good idea to scare ante natal thread with that one! Hope the girdle helps.

Blimey enid, is dd3 2 already?

lol at giraffe leg, ha ha

Marina, you are a better woman than I managing a school trip at the weekend.

Yoyo think it is peri menopause by sounds of it but am no expert. Thoroughly recommend M&S Cook range. The sea bass with a rosemary crust is gorgeous, so is the lamb rack with pine nuts (although not sure they still do it, haven't seen for a while) as is pretty much everythnig from that range.

FIS, sounds lovely all the boozing and partying and glad teeth were ok

we've been boozing and partying a lot on this thread haven't we? (rhetorical question, obv)

unknown, poor ds3, I hope he's ok.

Saggars, I'm so sorry, how awful. ex dh talked about getting a motorbike and it scared me terribly.

Prufrock, belated happy birthday and glad you have stunning legs, marvellous and well done

Sorry if I've missed anyone, it's a long thread and my fault for not starting a new one, apologies.

Yesterday I ate

toast x several with butter
lentils and feta
roast chicken
roast potatoes
roast parsnips
carrots
broccoli
peas
green beans
baby sweetcorn
wine
more wine
more wine, all over long lunch where friends came
pralines and cream ice cream

but all above roast stuff and wine between 1.30om and 7pm (as if that makes it ok!) and then didn't eat or drink any more and was in bed by 10.15 and asleep by 10.30

dh is ILL though, he reckons some salmonella type thing as he was in the loo all night and has been at home feeling rotten today. Poor love, I do feel sorry for him but also VERY relieved that it was just him and not the family of 5 that came over for Sunday lunch. And the children and I are fine, so goodness knows what it was. He did put butter and herbs inside the chicken breast so maybe he didn't wash his hands enough, although he reckons he did, we both treat raw meat like poison.

Today
toast x 2 at home and another 2 at 11am at work
then salmon sandwich
apple
prawns
salmon salad from M&S, 400 cal
water
sunscreen
and am knackered as didn't sleep well due to dh being up and down so will be in bed by half nine I reckon.

OP posts:
tharsheblows · 28/04/2008 20:40

I joined the gym and did a class and feel all excited again about going to exercise. It'll last all of a week, I'm sure, but am reveling in excitedness for now.

Ate ok:
muesli with yoghurt and pomegranate seeds
smoked salmon sandwich from gym, bleh-ish
berry smoothie
beans
and too much coffee to mention

body cream - no, showered in gym but will take bath soon and put some on then
water - yes
hand cream - almost enough
sunscreen - yes until shower at gym

yoyo - I had that and went to the doctor for it a couple of months ago. It was a combination of massive stress and slightly off thyroid levels (I am always hypothyroid but my dose needed changing). Do go and see your doctor and she'll take bloods and see what's up.

unknownrebelbang · 28/04/2008 21:25

DS3 is fine thanks, if a little bruised and swollen.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • Walking is important, 1/2 way home from school this am, all the way home tonight, about 3 miles. No bike, though.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream. Will do at bedtime.
  • Use hand cream yy - throughout the day.
  • Go to bed early, was good all last week, but not at the weekend.
  • Eat healthily. Quite pleased with myself today. I do have some chocolate though...
  • Be happy, not bad for a Monday. Been giggling at daft things. Nothing to do with a three-day week perchance??
yoyo · 28/04/2008 21:36

Moonshine - pattern has been a bit odd for a while now but have had an ovulation bleed mid-cycle. This is now a period in my opinion.
Tharsheblows - will book appt. to get checked out. Have had a stressful year really but wouldn't have thought it would alter my cycle. No thyroid problems that I am aware of but have recently gained a lot of weight and don't think I have altered my diet hugely.

My M&S quest is for something to wear not to eat. Took me a while to work out why WWW was recommending food - made me chuckle.

Last few things to do before sinking into sofa. DH will probably find me asleep there when he gets in.

WideWebWitch · 28/04/2008 21:42

lol at food/clothes misunderstanding, sorry!

OP posts:
FYIAD · 29/04/2008 09:29

am slowly dying inside as I realise I sent an email about a saleswoman TO the saleswoman instead of to my colleague saying how she got on my nerves. So... happy thoughts a long way off.

Am very very tired today, have felt like this on and off for weeks, vague sore throat, vague body aches, knackered. AND I have thrush .

glass warm water
tea
porridge

have an apple, some baked beans and an oatbar thing for lunch

I need a LARGE COFFEE

Oliveoil · 29/04/2008 09:33

oh deary deary me Enid , can you pretend it was about someone else

FYIAD · 29/04/2008 09:39

thats what i did

she wont believe me though

I could die

esp as dh met her in america and said how nice she was

he will kill me if he finds out

marina · 29/04/2008 09:41

Oh, FYIAD, rotten luck I once sent a scathing and explicit e-mail about a contractor's sick record (I had had TMI e-mails from him about a septic boil on his arse in my defence) to a total stranger at the LSE, by mistake.
Get some coffee down you XXX at least you had a lovely weekend by the sound of it! Did you do a treasure hunt in the end?
Another encyclopedia-rending, husband-decking perimenopausal here! My cycle has definitely shortened but after a uterine decoke 18 months ago I no longer have very heavy periods. I always want to append either "Kong" or "18, Lust, Caution" whenever I see Dong Qai written down...has anyone tried Agnus Castus, by the way?
Am not really doing all that well on bootcamp tbh - apart from water and cream, the easy, fun bits. Eating's OK I suppose but I need to take more exercise and definitely get more sleep.
Well done on gym joining thar and all these reported weight losses
FIS, missed saying happy birthday to you but belated many happy returns and good to hear you survived the Hammer House of Tooth OK
WWW, whatever you do, don't be tempted to tell dh to get a grip. Mine thoughtfully developed salmonella on our third date (the piggywig shouldn't have had a pate ploughman's on the hottest day of the year, should he ) and despite my bracing encouragement to stop malingering...it went to his kidneys. Dh spent several years collecting his widdle in a gallon bottle on a regular basis to check they weren't failing altogether . He was expected to do these 24 hour collections at work. Keep an eye on him just in case.

tortoiseSHELL · 29/04/2008 09:41

Oh no Enid! Apparently that happens quite a lot with email!

www, sorry I disappeared last night, children started squawking! Lovely to 'chat' to you anyway! x

marina - did you get my email? All is positive in our house atm!

tortoiseSHELL · 29/04/2008 09:42

A friend of mine was messing around with his user name when we were at uni and changed it to 'Zadok the Priest' but forgot to change it back, and sent various emails as Zadok, including one to New York City Opera - he didn't get a reply!!!

FYIAD · 29/04/2008 09:45

lol @ encylopedia rendign

my cycle has shortened too

yes we had a lovely treasure hunt thank you so much for teh fabric idea - we did exactly that - gave each child their piece of fabric, then they had to find 6 matching ones, then they got their 'treasure' - party bags which i made from the same fabrica nd tied with ribbon - filled with the usual suspects. Dd3 had a great day - I feel so relieved its all over though and I can chill out a bit this week.

am waiting to hear back from saleswoman. she still wants me to book the ads though

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 29/04/2008 10:16

moonshine - I'm moaning so much about being pregnant I can't believe it would make anyone broody! My middle DS is early June though so yes, I'm looking forward to a nice summer, not having the Christmas tree wrecked later in the year and him being on his feet in time for next summer. It's all planned.

ureb - glad DS3 is on the mend.

enid - snigger! Somebody at the White Company sent me an email that should have gone to the boss (we have same initials). I'd only mailed them on the scrounge for pre-school. Was most enlightening! Was quickly followed by a mail from the sender begging me to delete it. I received really good prizes for pre-school that year...!

Yesterday was OK. Girdle has improved previously mentioned discomfort (diplomatic). Ate mostly fruit and veg all day. Didn't have a proper dinner - had melon, orange and apples instead? Lots of water.

Went to bed at 11pm-ish and slept til 3am. But went back to sleep until 6am. Yippee!

Now rushing off as my new chicken-egg incubator has just been delivered. !

tortoiseSHELL · 29/04/2008 12:22

Ooh DofNB - not long to go to the baby! June is a LOVELY time for the baby! Ds1 is a June baby and it is idyllic! And about the incubator!

foxinsocks · 29/04/2008 13:40

poor you DofNB. I too got to wear one of those velcro girdles...was never sure if it did much...at least it makes you feel less like a spatchcock chicken!

marina, I am lol at the septic boil. WHY would he tell anyone that, let alone a colleague? One ex colleague of mine got a dreadful dose of some tropical worm he picked up while travelling abroad and proceeded to tell us the most graphic details. I'm sure he could see me wince whenever he offered to make me a cup of coffee.

gawd enid, how cringeworthy lol! I wonder what she will say. Hopefully, she's so la la la that she won't twig what you've done.

I think I might be addicted to carbs and sugar. I had to only have liquids yesterday and I honestly thought I was going to pass out. Have already managed today

a HUGE bowl of porridge with bananas and syrup
an avocado and salad sandwich
chicken laska soup and a wedge of brown bread
about 5 cups of coffee

and I'm still starving grrr.

I am also missing out on the exercise bit at the moment but with the weather so grim, I can't say I'm that motivated to do anything outside and the gym does not feel that appealing.

moonshine · 29/04/2008 17:11

A colleague sent a text to her friend complaining about their boss and called her a fat cow! Or she thought she'd sent it to the friend but had actually sent the text to the aforementioned boss and proceeded to hide in the toilets when she heard her bosses's message alert sound!

Duchess - my ds is 10th June - we must have similar fertility patterns; I have always been extra careful (or going at it like the proverbial rabbit) around August/September time .

Lol at being told about someone's boily bottom - how could you ever have a normal conversation with them again without imagining the offending pustule??

Yes I have read somewhere that being perimeni messes with, well everything. But check-up sounds good Yoyo as being perimenipausal sounds too scary, if inevitable, although it does actually seem to cover a huge number of years and symptoms.

There have been periods (pardon the pun) in my life when I have been spot-free and had no pms and they have always been when I was on the Cambridge Diet. Hardly scientific but am thinking it was due to the lack of carbs affecting my hormones. Or, even scarier, lack of alcohol but I refuse to contemplate that. Still, it's hardly a viable long-term option.

No gym for me this week (slaps wrist).

Food good, apart from too much diet coke and someone yummy homemade tiffin.

Patchy 'giraffe' leg fading but very slowly.

Knees smooth but still very discoloured.

Mood - murderous tendencies being severally tested at work.

Prufrock · 29/04/2008 19:02

Enid - have you spoken to her yet? I once had an e-mail from an Italian client (via my support guy who translated) bellyaching about getting an account set up. I replied back to the support guy "Can you tell him to stop worrying and stop bothering me - I'm on it. Obv. put it more tactfully in Italian please". And not only did I manage to copy in the client, but his entire team. It took lots and lots of grovelling by my boss (and me being taken off the account) to keep the E200million he was giving us.

I'm being good about brushing, scrubbing and creaming, but only OK about food and bad about alcohol. I blame dh for being away.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 29/04/2008 19:28

Lots of walking ambling whilst doing Road Safety Training with Yr 1 Primary. And finally packed a hospital bag in case I don't get a homebirth and washed lots of baby clothes that DD2 and I had rummaged in the attics for.

Have eaten cheese scone; chicken soup, bread & butter; raw carrots & apples; very small amount of chilli & rice; yet another apple. Lots of water. 2 coffees. 1 apple juice.

Face & hands yes. Body & feet no. Hoping for a quick meeting, a nice shower and an earlyish night.

WideWebWitch · 29/04/2008 19:31

Oh god enid, any chance you got away with it? Or was it very explicitly about her?

Oh god, me too re carbs, I love them. Moonshine, omg at fat cow boss.

dofN, lol at White Company and at all these email faux pas. I am VERY careful with email on the whole

ChutneyMary · 29/04/2008 20:17

Hello lovely ladies! Just checking in... cannot report on my eating / drinking / exercising misdemeanours over the last few weeks as I am now 8 weeks pregnant and thus doing pretty much none of the aforesaid! Completely unplanned, very happy but feeling pants. Can't face anything, let alone water / fruit and veg / healthy food. No booze of course, but barely troubling the Moron as I don't do anything if I can avoid it.

Moan, moan, moan - sorry. I hope you are all well and happy (esp Duchess - must be soon - and lovely L &S) and I'll be back bootcamping again once the sickness passes!

Much love to you all

PS - Marina - I now have a roof! About bloody time

tortoiseSHELL · 29/04/2008 20:23

Enid - remember this...

Alastair Campbell was at the centre of attacks on Labour's campaigning style after accidentally sending BBC journalists an email which expressed his disdain for the corporation in even stronger language than usual.

The former Downing Street communications chief inflamed the row about aggressive election tactics by mistakenly send ing the message to BBC's Newsnight programme on Monday. The programme had been looking into his role as the initiator of controversial Labour campaign posters depicting the Tory leader, Michael Howard, as a flying pig that were alleged by some to be anti-semitic.

The message, from his portable Blackberry emailer, had been intended for a colleague. It read: "Fuck off and cover something important you twats!" In a second email to the BBC he blamed his mistake on the fact he was "not very good at this email Blackberry malarkey", adding: "Campbell swears shock. Final sentence of earlier email probably a bit colourful and personal considering we have never actually met but I'm sure you share the same sense of humour as your star presenter Mr P[axman]."

Link here

Oliveoil · 29/04/2008 20:58

lol at these email things

I am full of doom and gloom atm, have no idea why, a black cloud has descended

my period is due in 2 weeks, surely it can't be PMT yet? fecking hormones

have eaten today (carb overload):

bagel with jam
mango and grapes
cheese sandwiches
banana and apple
thai curry with rice
3 jaffa cakes

dd1 had a humungous strop over her reading this evening saying she was rubbish and dh is currently huffing over the football

I think red wine is called for yes?

(ps - when are we getting a shorter thread www, I can't keep up!)

yoyo · 29/04/2008 21:14

I was doing really well until DH fancied a curry for tea and a trip to salmonella corner at Waitrose offered up loads of stupidly priced Indian food. Had a bit of everything and a glass of beer and some cookies and cream ice cream. It was delicious!

Congrats to ChutneyMary - hope sickness passes soon.

V. funny emails. DH has had quite a few that have reached him by mistake and has no doubt sent some too.

Reassuring to read that many of you are experiencing shorter cycles. Still going to see Doc though.

Some ironing to catch up on now.
