All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

Morning all and welcome capp
Good weekend, more slash'n'burn calorie-busting tidying, this time of dd's lair, which is hugely improved.
am weak with relief about computer and surviving a playdate on Sunday with a child who has never been to our house before
Duchess, so sorry you are still in such discomfort
and lovely weekend batters!
No walk this morning due to lateness so will strut about later instead. Water, cream, all on agenda but PMT affecting happiness

LoveAndSqualor · 21/04/2008 11:59

Morning all,

finally worked out how to feed DS while on the computer, phew. Good job as this is all he wants to do at the moment [knackered]. We have ceased using his name and now refer to him simply as Big Fat Baby. Am trying to eat to keep up with his appetite, but it's not easy!

Prufrock, jaw on floor at your ILs! My word. Hope you tucked right in to the food.

Saggars, I think your DD did exactly the right thing - happy medium between adult intervention and keeping friends' counsel, I think. Has there been any fall-out?

Duchess, that front of pelvis pain is the pits. Hope you're feeling better today. And yeesh to your DH's working hours

Off out for lunch at a friend's today; planning a stride around the park first to try to persuade DS to drop off (he is Mega Grouch this morning). Am attempting to summon the spring sunshine with special weather chants (not a hot weather person, so spring and autumn are my favourite times to see the sun). Have lovely days, one and all

yoyo · 21/04/2008 13:23

After four and a half weeks of school holidays the DC will all be back in school tomorrow. Two schools with different holidays - what a time we have had! Needless to say the stress of it all drove me to lots of very nice but very bad food and very little exercise. Have been dipping in to see how you have all been doing (in between refereeing arguments) but have felt too guilty to 'fess up to all my indulgences.

Buffed, moisturised and de-fuzzed this morning so a good start. Lingering cold so gym not a good idea but am about to take DC for a walk. Am going to enquire at gym about personal trainer - anyone ever used one? Costs loads but then so did Pilates and I never regretted a penny of that.

Time to go out before the heavens open.

Prufrock · 21/04/2008 14:45

DH and I have a personal trainer come to my house twice a week fro an hour yoyo - works brillinatly for us. She brings equipment so we can do stuff liek boxing, flexibar, rebounder, and forces helps us do weight exercises correctly and to muscle exhaustion, rather than gving up as soon as it gets hard.

enjoy the peace duch - mine have been back for 2 weeks now and I've almost forgotten how knackered I was at teh end of the holidays. I do think this is the most tiring age - old enough to be bolshy and not nap, not quite old enough to be self-sufficient, and conditioned by attendance at school/pre-school to expect things to do to be laid on.

batters- bless you - Now you aren't coming over all "mother of a pfb" are you? You know she'll be fine, she knows she'll be fine, your mother is a fool and just think of the freedom! You can have noisy sex when you get home from work without the fear of discovery!

tharsheblows · 21/04/2008 16:54

Well fuck, my son has Perthes' disease. Sob - it's not as bad as it could be though; that's something.

On the upside and ignoring the weekend, I have eaten quite well today, have creamed (ew, that doesn't sound right) and jogged and drunk much water and no booze whilst wearing sunscreen.*

Am going to eat well tonight too, although might have medicinal toast with honey and bananas (my stress release food of choice). And will try to get to bed early.

*Is this just sunscreen on our faces? Do we need body sunscreen once we start shedding clothes for summer?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/04/2008 17:47

Eek tharsheblows - what's the plan with ds then. Does he need surgery? Did you manage to tweak his pain relief?

Batters - I've also realised that I don't react as well to the booze as I used to. Sadly.

Norks - sorry that you're so uncomfy. How many weeks to go?

I had a good day yesterday with all bootcamp list ticked. But woke up today with a dodgy knee so no exercise class tonight No exercise means I'll have to eat less too

All seems fine on the mates front with dd. Aforementioned friend remembers nothing and was still pretty out of it on Saturday morning so she has no regrets about calling in the cavalry.

moonshine · 21/04/2008 18:00

Hello all (and waves to Cappuccino),

You really can't step away from this thread for long without losing track, which I guess is a nice compliment to it.

Marina - glad you (and the computers) are up and running again at work.

L&S - Well done on mastering feeding and being on the computer - I never managed it with my Big Fat Baby but, unfortunately, I did manage to keep up with his appetite.

Batters - I presume the anti-pms cocktail of pills take a one or two to kick in?

I shall join the rank of the over-indulgers (drink for me) and bring my veil back out again for this weekend. But did go to the gym 3 times last week which is good for me.

I tried on those jeans (NYDJ) this weekend out of curiosity. I had to go down 2 dress sizes to get the right fit (good start!) and feck me but they made my fat stomach look almost flat! But they did nothing for my wobbly bum and I thought they were unflattering on my legs (but then I only tried on boot-leg which I don't think particularly suit me as I only saw the straight leg ones on the way out) so am left wondering if it is not better to spend a fraction of the cost on some good 'suck-it-all-in' pants. I would be interested to see if anyone else gives them a go and has a similar experience.

On dresses - I love them and am currently obsessed because I find them easier to fit than trousers. But my criteria do extend to covering my upper arms (thank God for loads of shrugs in the shops) and being able to wear them with boots. I love the idea of them for summer but am not sure what the reality is going to be yet.

Moisturised and body-brushed - tick
Sunscreen - tick, but I need to buy one of those once a day ones as I do not reapply as you are supposed to.
Sleep - cross
Happiness - undecided yet which way it will go now that I am back at work (but not having to cope with squabbling kids for 14 hours a day).

Here's to slightly warmer weather.

moonshine · 21/04/2008 18:05

tharsheblows - I had to google Perthes disease as I've never heard of it. I'm so sorry but, dare I say, it sounds like it does usually get better? Is he in much pain?

tharsheblows · 21/04/2008 19:27

Yes, it's self limiting (2 years or so) and, as with almost everything, could be worse. He's not in much pain.

SMBK - we will discuss surgery with the consultant in May after seeing how it's progressed. He's off the daily ibuprofen and on a preventative asthma med which works wonders for him. I have rung to see if he's allowed to ride his bike. That would be great!

WideWebWitch · 21/04/2008 20:28

Tharsheblows, self limiting sounds positive, I'm glad he's not in much pain. Sunscreen on anything exposed, although I keep forgetting my wrists and hands and they have AGE spots (hands, not wrists) am tempted by Chanel sof 50 stuff...

Batters, she'll be fine! But Ikwym, I am relieved to have ds back after 2 weeks away, I missed him. He slept a LOT at the weekend, getting over weeks of late nights at exmils and I have stuffed him full of fruit and veg, which is helping.

Marina, glad computer is blip rather than disaster, have you a disaster recovery plan? Sympathy on pmt, I really know the feeling

Moonshine, me too re arms, nobody's seen mine for about 20 years...

Saggars, sorry to hear of dodgy knee

Yoyo, confess all, you know you want to

L&S, about TIME you worked out how to feed baby and post on mn, why didn't you ask, we'd have explained how to do it! nice to see you

DofN, sorry to hear of night time pain, that sounds tough. How long until baby no 4? You are admirably energetic!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 21/04/2008 20:31

Medium day bootcamp wise

piece of toast and lime marmalade as I ran out the door this morning
2 pieces toast and Marmite
houmous sandwich
banana
mixed berries and some honey cashews and pecans at Euston
and came home STARVING and made noodles with prawns, green beans, baby sweetcorn, carrots, red pepper, garlic, lime, soy and chilli, it was gorgeous
no wine
plenty water
sunscreen
walking on commute but not enough

happy ish although med stressful day at work
but hey, am working from home on Thurs and at conference all day Friday so it's an easy enough week, can't complain!

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 21/04/2008 20:48

Hello all.

Nuff said.

catch up tomorrow.

yoyo · 21/04/2008 21:13

Prufrock - your Trainer certainly puts you through it! Didn't get to gym thanks to DC, circuitous walk and rain but will call in on the way home from work tomorrow.

WWW - my sinning has been too bad to list and I am heavier than I have been since having DS 5 years ago. It was all very enjoyable (I can particularly recommend Parky's gastropub The Royal Oak and The Walnut Tree was pretty damn fine too). Unfortunately, to ward off stress I delve into cookery books and combined with a lack of exercise my girth has expanded hugely.

Have done pretty well today though and we will be back to normal tomorrow. Hurrah. My cold is most definitely on the way out so I may make trhe gym before the week is out too.

Love2dance · 21/04/2008 22:24

Evenin' All
Tharsheblows, the news about Perthes must have been a shock. Sorry to hear about it but I hope now you know what it is, the worry is a bit less distressing.

I've fallen behind with popping in but:
Friday: Knackered due to working day & commute from London to Lincoln and back.
Pret a Manger treat brekkie (egg & bacon croissant). Packed lunch broad bean salad.
Massive (quality ) cheeseburger and chips.

Saturday
At the Sanctuary Spa with best friend.
Glass champagne (at 11.30 am!!); olive bread; tuna salad; profiteroles in chocolate sauce; M&S chicken Kiev (an old vice); more bubbly; 1/2 large bar dark choc. Bowl of late night cornflakes (has to be full cream milk).

Sunday
lunch: 6 mini spring rolls & chicken satay. Dinner:roast chicken etc. Finished off dark choccie. Rootling around in cupboards for more treats later but keep forgetting I try not to buy them when bootcamping.

Monday
Trying to get back on the waggon....

Night

foxinsocks · 22/04/2008 07:58

we are back from Summmaaaaaaaaarset. Had a lovely time if you exclude the fact that both dh and I had to come back to London on Friday for work emergencies and then we got horribly lost as the A36 was closed and we hadn't bargained on that and I err forgot the name of where we were going and we went to the wrong place oops. Dh, manfully, did not ONCE blame me though did that smug smiling thing that suggests he has filed this incident for use at another unspecified time .

Now that I'm back at work and back in commuting hell, my food intake will go to pieces.

Yesterday had
Apple
porridge
Lemon muffin
French onion soup+ cheese + croutons
Whole family size ham and mushroom pizza
grapes
6 choc digestive biscuits

Have already munched down a ginger muffin this morning and a huge latte for good measure. Am still not drinking sunday to thurs.

Tharsheblows, sorry to hear about ds but glad it is self limiting.

Walked over Waterloo Bridge this morning just as they were playing Waterloo Sunset on the radio. It's such a beautiful day and for about 5 minutes, it was bliss (until I got to work!).

marina · 22/04/2008 09:27

fox, I was listening to a Ray Davies chune as I walked across the Thames too! Kirsty singing Days, lovely Sorry about the work emergencies last week though
Morning all - love2dance, don't worry about not posting every day, we all come and go
Tharsheblows - Perthes Disease at least you have a dx now and can work with that. So the scan was all that was needed. Poor lad, and I am sure you've been left feeling a bit turned over by it all too. Er...how much of your clothing were you planning on shedding ? After www's entertaining crinkly bosom thread I think we have all twigged our cleavages need attention
Ureb, hope today is a better one
Yesterday was rubbish from a bootcamp perspective and I have a 48 hour window of existential hell coming up...dentist this pm, check-up only but am phobic so will need to keep telling jaws not to bite...then first annual review with new boss tomorrow augh
So I walked this morning, am supping water and trying to stay c a l m
WWW, have binned Affluenza and am starting on the Ferris. I think I relate most to Tom Mota. Sellotaping a sushi roll to the back of a colleague's bookcase...am saving that one for future use
Good to see you both Yoyo and LAS
Moonshine, I am looking for lightweight shruggy things to wear over dresses tbh
A good day to all, it is sort of sunny here

moonshine · 22/04/2008 17:48

Marina - I have decided to start a collection of shrugs as no-one will ever be seeing the tops of my arms. It's nice there are quite a few out there now but tis difficult to balance the getting them light enough to wear on a warm (ha ha) summer's day but without them making your arms (and I mean mine of course) look like legs of pork hanging from your shoulders. Hope dentist wasn't too traumatic and good luck with the annual review (haven't missed those whilst a sahm an am no worse for it!).

How come all the other threads seem to be about school-run dresses? Do I need specific ones for specific tasks? They are also talking about my other obsession (well sort of) - Fade Out which I have been using on my knees.

Good bootcamp so far today, although I did not go to the gym as I promised myself I would. But I will go tomorrow morning. Promise.

Have eaten lots of fruit and made lunch to bring to work (always far healthier and less calorific). For my I eat far better on my working days.

But have noticed grey hairs poking through again so will need to think about going to hairdressers for some rejuvenation of the head.

WideWebWitch · 22/04/2008 19:55

Where does one buy clothes WITHOUT short sleeves at this time of year? I realise I cannot wear cardigans all summer.

Marina, good on yer for ditching Mr James. I didn't make it to the end and have Ferris but must finish trashy novel first! Good luck with review tomorrow.

FIS lol at incident filing away but well done on not drinking in the week.

Moonshine, oh god at school run dresses. I am quaking at idea of ditching my 60 denier M&S bodyahaper tights with lycra, I don't want to, wah. In the summer I, no, I can't tell you, it's too embarrassing. But I doubt I'll be wearing dresses. Have new skirt, which is long and black and summery, well, except it's black so will need to buy some covering up but light enough tops to see me through summer at work.

love2dance, that food sounds GORGEOUS although not strictly bootcamp ish but who cares?

Yoyo, at the restaurants and I love reading cook books too. What;s your favourite?

How's your back and all DofN?

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 22/04/2008 19:59

Not bad, am DYING for glass of wine but have resisted and will continue to do so. May allow myself some with The Apprentice tomorrow.

apple
berry mix from M&S
M&S veg wrap (250 cals)
half of an M&S super salad (350 cals) which I got bored of, ate the asparagus and broccoli and sweet potato or whatever it was but got bored of the cous cous
apple
banana
some mixed berries and pecans and cashews at Euston
and dh is cooking sausages and veg and baby potatoes cooked in skins, they look lovely but glistening with olive oil
no wine
was in bed readsing at 9.30 and asleep by 10.30 last night but ds woke with earache at 4am so staggered downstairs, gave him ibuprofen and didn't get back to sleep very well so am KNACKERED
then dd had a temp this morning but thankfully was ok after Calpol and a hug
enough water probably
sunscreen

I look like shite though, oh well
and felt happy until tried on clothes this evening and felt bleurgh

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 22/04/2008 20:18

Evening all.

Yesterday was ok Marina thanks, apart from DS1 missing the blardy bus and me having to call on a friend for a favour. Great way to start the week! I was in a rush, and am struggling with bootcamping at the moment. Just can't get into the routine of ex-biking again, and eating is all over the place, so needed to "sign in" as it were.

Tharsheblows, sorry to hear about DS1.

DD will love the trip Batters, but anxiety is normal for both of you isn't it? Daft blardy MIL again!

How are you today Duchess?

Ouch at two schools with such differing holidays! Hope that doesn't occur too often.

How's the knee saggars?

Hello L&S! My big fat babies were before MN - that might be a good thing, lol.

Oops FIS, that was unfortunate - DH can do that smug "I'm saying nothing" look, grr.
Me? I just can't keep my mouth shut I'm afraid.

www's crinkly bosom thread?
school-run dresses?

Do spill about your summer wardrobe www...

unknownrebelbang · 22/04/2008 20:22

I think I need the "I don't do chocolate in the week" mantra.

Apart from sunscreen / water, the only success yesterday was being in bed by 10 pm!

Reasonably happy, but not in bootcamp mode at all, and the boys are being royal pitas (which tbh is more likely to be me lacking patience).

moonshine · 22/04/2008 20:40

Ah WWW - (sympathetic pats on the back but no hugs, promise), I have exactly the same dilemma every spring/summer - you'd think I would have built up an appropriate wardrobe by now as I am constantly searching for cover-up tops that aren't tent-like and yell 'fatty trying to cover up but pretend to be in summery mood' to go over usually badly fitting trousers. I talk a good skirt and dress but don't know how brave I am yet in showing legs at all, never mind taking off my tights (I was wearing 60 dernier body shapers today funnily enough). As for non-frumpy dresses with decent sleeves - well, there must be a gap in the market there (especially found that when looking for my black tie dress).

Anyway, now that I have got all that off my chest I shall go and try to eat a decent meal and not listen to dh's plea of 'are we really not drinking tonight' (keep telling him he can do as he pleases but he wants a partner in crime ).

unknownrebelbang · 22/04/2008 21:46

I'm allowed fruit pie, handmade by DS1 at school aren't I? I mean I have to support his efforts (very good they were too) don't I?

cough (with double crem) cough.

Prufrock · 22/04/2008 23:02

I have a number of very light silk cardigans bought from Phase 8 over the years. Hobbs also do good cotton cardigans, and my absolute fave summer cover up is a long (mid thigh length) loose white linen shirt that I wear undone over trousers and strappy top.

JJ - I'm sorry ds is ill, but glad that it isn't anything more serious, and that you do finally have a diagnosis and can plan.

I'm still a person who doesn't drink during the week -though I am still eating my way through the bacon, sausages (made into a lentil and spinach stew tonight) and cheese left from the aborted MIL visit. And because I'm being a bit bad, I end up being very bad - last night I boiled down a balsamic vinegar strawberry marinade and poured teh resulting syrup all over homemade vanilla ice-cream. and I don't even like desert!
