All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

Hello everyone.

Failing on the early to bed and the alcohol but fine with everything else. I will go to bed immediately after Sralan tonight.

Batters - I have had a cold that has dragged on and on too and really got me down. It has improved but still have that mucousy back of the throat feeling. Hope you feel better soon.

WWW - I enjoy most cookery books but have made some Nigella stuff recently (fish curry with lemon rice was delish).

All this talk of summer clothes should be spurring me on but I am dreading the flesh revelation season.

Time to walk to school. Lovely and sunny here at the mo!

LoveAndSqualor · 23/04/2008 15:40

hello everyone,

My top tip for arm-covering summerwear is Whistles - pricey, but does a good line in floaty-sleeved tops, which are summery while providing the requisite camouflage. I am actually ok with my upper arms (until I see them in photos); the real palaver of summer for me is what to wear on my bottom half - would love to do skirts, but the whiteness of the skin and the heft of the ankle makes me wary about bearing them to the world. Still, am determined to Get Them Out this year and expose them to a bit of fresh air.

Argh, must go before I want to as I hear grizzling from the Moses basket. Time for a stride round the park (possibly via the newsagents for sweets the paper). tharsheblows, v sorry to hear about the dx, must be extremely stressful for you. Thinking of you.

WideWebWitch · 23/04/2008 20:17

Quick report

last night good, was asleep by half ten
no wine

today not so good:

granary toast and Marmite x 2 from home in car
white sliced toast and Marmite x 2 at work oops
chickpea and haloumi salad, didn't finish it as had to go to team lunch where I had hummus and pitta
apple
banana
and about to have pizza
drinking Prosecco

That really isn't that much food is it? Why am I not a waif? I know: middle age; not enough exercise; wine at weekends and sometimes in week; butter; chicken skin blah blah

But am feeling happy, work waas good and am working at home tomorrow, hurrah!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 23/04/2008 20:52

Evening all. Had terrible day yesterday, DH in London so did lots of outdoor chores and walked the dog and then did Road Safety Training with Year 1. Only 4 helpers turned up so we had to take the class out in 3 groups. So instead of taking 30 minutes it took from 1pm until nearly 3pm so then had to hang about for DCs to come out of school. Followed by more chores by which time my back was agony. And then the shopping arrived. Swore at DH down the phone for being late - hardly his fault though, he was being interrogated by new investors.

Anyway... that was yesterday. Today was better. Back feels better for a few hours sleep and I have physio again on Monday.

Have bootcamped well today and have managed to sit down and MN rest too. Saw midwife, baby now in a back-to-the-right-hand-side position and the head is on the verge of being engaged. I feel as stretched as can be but still have 4.5 weeks to go!

Will catch up with thread properly tomorrow.

WideWebWitch · 23/04/2008 20:53

Iamdingdong, your upper arms are COMPLETELY FINE!

How was the dentist, and appraisal Marina?
DS3 came out in sympathy with you, and had a milk tooth removed. Just copying big bro, sigh. They do have appts, but not til the end of May.

You feeling any brighter Batters? and how's DD?

Well done Capp.

Glad today was better than yesterday Duchess.

Lack of exercise is my let-down at the moment.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze, but thanks to a fridge malfunction had a lovely cider SLUSH PUPPY last night, mmmmmm.
  • no exercise.
  • Lots of weak tea/water.
  • Apply body cream yes!
  • Use hand cream lax
  • Go to bed early, two good nights
  • Eat healthily, lacking fruit and salad.
  • Be happy. High. Friend's baby girl arrived a couple of weeks early last night, and a colleague is to become a grandma.

DS2 and DS3 have passed their karate gradings.
DS1 has morphed into an unrecognisable alien who smiles! (He's had a great day out at Twickers, and shown some common sense too!)

Work is going ok too . Busy but productive. Hid myself away and worked through some stuff I don't normally get around to doing, There's loads more, but it's a start.

batters - glad the dd thing is sorted!

The teachers have just marched past our office in central London. There are THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of them. Unbelievable. They've been marching down Kingsway for all of about 20 mins and there are still more coming!

It was my birthday yesterday and I baked a cake for work (as it's tradition here to bring a cake in on your birthday) but then felt VIOLENTLY ill all day but daren't say anything in case everyone thought I had poisioned them .

I came into work this morning expecting loads of people to be off but thankfully, everyone is here and not looking green . I am relieved that it wasn't my cooking!

Yesterday I had

porridge
apple
banana
ham and cheese roll
grapes
American Pizza from pizza express
then nothing else because I felt too ill

am having an op to saw a broken tooth out of my jaw tomorrow so will be on a liquid diet for a few weeks (sob) so am trying to cram in as many nice hard foods in the meantime to prepare for the inevitable soup diet grrr!

Eeek at tooth too, FIS . Glad I saw that after my uneventful check-up, do hope it goes OK

iamdingdong · 24/04/2008 20:37

thanks lovely ladies for reassuring words have eaten vast amounts this evening for some reason, maybe because its thursday?

FIS sounds painful, hope it goes well

DoNB how's the back today?

and everyone else, happy thursday!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 25/04/2008 00:22

Hello! My back has been much better today thank you!

I've done lots of shopping chores and had some sitting around time. Managed to get soaked several times through the day but luckily missed drowning in a HUGE thunder storm. Felt horribly grungy and damp all day though so I've spent the evening having long warm shower & hair wash and deep conditioning treatment, exfoliating, tanning lotion on, Flexitol & hand cream, eye mask, painting toe nails and now I feel human again and don't smell like the dog!

I've eaten cereal; crab salad sandwich; my own bodyweight in apples & carrots; oat & raisin biscuit; mild chicken curry with rice & naan bread followed by a Flake ice cream. Have just eaten half a melon.

I'm now off to bed - I know it's past bootcamp bedtime but early nights mean that I'm awake at 2 or 3am. If I can sleep until 5am I'm happier!

batters - my stretchmarks had faded and only show up with a tan (which is an extremely rare occurrence as I don't do much in the way of torso exposure). They're showing up now, very silvery, I'll be thrilled if they don't go red again but with 4 weeks to go I'm probably buggered!

FIS - good luck at the dentist. I have a cracked one that is bearing up and as I'd rather not have anaesthetic whilst pregnant, I am postponing action on it. And Happy Belated Birthday!

moonshine · 25/04/2008 10:57

Good morning all,

I always post nervously on a Friday as I haven't worked out how not to indulge from now until Monday morning and ruin any good work I may have done.

Iamdingdong - you definitely fall into the category of can wear sleeveless!

FIS - Happy Belated B'day from me too. Hope you're feeling better (liquid diet sounds tough but there are some very interesting liquids you can cram in - I speak from experience .)

Stretchmarks are the bane of my life. I have them in the most awkward places thanks to an explosion of them at puberty . Tbh they do fade but always seem so obvious to me. Tanning doesn't help but I think batters you're right about moisturising.

Have had my gym workout but the d&v is back in the house, atm with dd who is officially the world's worst patient. I shall definitely need an early glass of wine by this afternoon.

I have also been given some lush swiss chocolate, so will have to let dh loose on it, sigh...

Must go off and attend to the patient...have a good day all.

FYIAD · 25/04/2008 12:58

hello all

I have LOST HALF a stone

weighed 10.9 this am

am ecstatic but dont think I actually look any different

skin good
happy thoughts - not so many for various reasons, weight loss is good though!
feet - goood, gave myself mini pedicure t'other day#
leg spots - clearing up

feeling great in the day then terrible in the evenings at about 7 ish - like jet lag!

yoyo · 25/04/2008 15:03

Doing well with the rules. Early night last night has made me feel human again.
DH came home last night having gone to the gym to find out about a personal trainer for me as I haven't got round to going myself! I take that as a sign that I need one!

Am out this evening so may fall down on all fronts but will try and restrict myself.

Congrats FYIAD on weight loss.

Batters - how was Oxford St on a Friday afternoon? Chocolate necessary?

Time to walk to school.

Have a good evening everyone.

LoveAndSqualor · 25/04/2008 16:45

Enid, delighted to hear that leg spots are beating a retreat in the face of continued brushing .

FIS, how's the tooth?

All well here, just had nice lunch with friend and her three-month-old - soup, spinach and pastry thing and, erm, chocolate brownie and ice cream for pudding. A brownie between two of us, though, so v restrained I think [neglects to mention brownie was the size of three-month-old's head].

Ah, stretchmarks. Thought I'd got away with it in pregnancy [pride before fall emoticon] but after two days of the Big Fat Baby constantly stuffing his face, I discovered two whoppers on my right breast the other morning. Joy! On the plus side, they will at least be covered up by my bikini when I strip down to it on all those beach holidays i'm planning [hollow, hollow laugh].

Hope everyone's got a good weekend in the offing. Tomorrow, I have a friend's hen night (my first proper night out since the baby, which will in practice be an hour and a half between bath time and the next feed - anyone care to place bets on how many glasses of champagne I can neck in that time? )

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 25/04/2008 21:53

Good work Enid.

FIS - how are you feeling? More soup...?

at yoyo sending DH to the gym on her behalf!

moonshine - me too with puberty stretchmarks - top of thighs and saddlebags - but those ones really are very faint now and fortunately never reappeared during pregnancies. I was rightly peed off with them as a teen because nobody else I knew had any.

Quite a good day (not least because it's Friday at last). DS1 had his first swimming lesson this afternoon and did really well. He didn't get upset about getting splashed, he put his face in and he swam holding a float without anyone holding him. When he swims with DH & I he clings on for dear life so I'm very pleased with him. And he got a headteachers award at school.

I've eaten toast & marmite; coconut biscuit; homemade veg soup & bread; pollack steak with a buttery sauce, sweetcorn and mash. Usual absurd amounts of apples, raw carrots, plums, orange and a tin of pineapple chunks (sudden craving)! Lots of water, 1 coffee.

Went to bed at 12.40pm and slept until just after 5am, which is the best this week.

unknownrebelbang · 25/04/2008 21:54

ooh that sounds painful FIS. Let us know how you are, once you're up to it.

Hope DD is feeling better soon Moonshine.

Well done Enid.
