Sandals that hide or mostly cover toes?

Newnamesameoldlurker · 20/04/2024 15:05

I have very ugly toes. Every summer I start an extensive search for sandals that don't fully expose them and I always find it very difficult to find attractive styles. I keep coming back to fisherman styles but they look a bit clunky on me (I'm very tall and can't pull off anything too bulky/masculine). Any other ugly- toed women on this board who could make some suggestions?!

How bad are they??

Solillas sandals

I love these (although I don't have an issue with my toes!)

Never heard of these before but they look lush. Are they comfy? Literally have 3 pairs in basket 🤣

Oooh @Newnamesameoldlurker those were the ones I would choose as they do come in silver. Are they comfortable? If I'm going to splurge they have to be all day wearable

I wore them yesterday and they're SO comfortable. I think they'll be nice for work on summer days.
Sadly my new Oliver bonas leather fisherman pair have given me awful blisters 😓 annoying you can only find that out from wearing them and then you can't return them! Will have to see if I can sell them on vinted. But beware anyone on the thread who was thinking about buying them.

Try Saltwater Shark Original if you like retro styles. I have them in the tan colour.

Don't wish to derail but can someone explain the common phenomenon of disliking toes and feet.
I have met many people ( all female) who feel their feet are unattractive. Why is that so?- Genuine question.

I am a runner. My toe nails do their job: protecting my toes (mostly!). The skin is doing its job by growing hardened patches (painless callouses I suppose).
I've only ever lost one toe nail (big toe, London marathon), otherwise they're intact but not long enough to warrant painting or otherwise drawing attention to.
They're very useful, but functional rather than attractive.

Varca style. So comfortable. Unfortunately the main website has closed but you can get similar on Amazon in many colours. Very comfortable and only the tip of your big and next toe show.

I have these and love them. Wouldn’t be without them. Comfortable and can be worn with dresses or jeans. John Lewis only do a couple of colours, but other stores have, red etc (and I hate opened-toe shoes also).

Heronatemygoldfish · 09/05/2024 12:20

My Hotter shore shoes have arrived... sadly I'm at work so I will have to wait until tonight to try them on. Will report back!

Currently wearing the ugliest velcro covered-toe walking shandals (sic) in existence but they are great for my bike commuting as long as I don't actually look at them...

KirstenBlest · 09/05/2024 14:31

@Riverlee , JOSEF SEIBEL Rosalie 13
There are other JS Rosalie styles, and they look nice despite being comfortable.

@KirstenBlest Don’t tempt me…! I had a pair of Rosalie 13 in red a couple of years back. It was a surprisingly versatile colour to wear, and went with alot more outfits than I expected.

My freshly arrived Rosalie 13s.

Very nice. I had something similar in off-white years ago. I wonder if I still have them. They were comfortable but they werea bit big for me and I was kicking myself for not buying the same pair in green but they were a size smaller.

I'm a 43 and am tempted with these....I worry about the strap rubbing?

Riverlee · 09/05/2024 14:59

No, I’ve usually been fine. I find them really comfortable and often go for walks in them.

ChickyBricky · 09/05/2024 17:51

I got some of these on eBay and am delighted with them. Bargain for £16-odd. They're really comfy and look much nicer IRL than in the photos (the fabric has a suede finish). Even better, I was on holiday in Biarritz recently and saw exactly the same shoes on sale in various shoe shops, priced at four times as much!

Well I'm keeping these. Hot day, swollen feet and feel easily wide enough without hitting my toes or my tailor's bunions. [Grin]

They look nice @Heronatemygoldfish . They're the Hotter Shore ones, yes.

Bumble6 · 09/05/2024 20:03

Blowfish Balla Sandals. I have several pairs in different colours!

RampantIvy · 09/05/2024 20:09

Those of you who have several pairs of sandals - do you live somewhere particularly warm?

I think I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I wore sandals last year.

I just have 2 pairs of flat sandals and a pair of dressy sandals. I only get my feet out when it is over 21 degrees or thereabouts.

MyFirstLittlePony · 09/05/2024 23:22

@CharlotteBog yes runner here too, very calloused feet. They are also misshapen due to having a growth spurt at age 12, my feet growing 2 sizes in a year but just wearing my one pair of shoes that I had. We were not poor, it was just different times and as a kid I got one pair of shoes per year

my toes, from age 13 were squashed and deformed.

my feet are great for sport, but the crooked wonky toes with hard skin and callouses are better kept out of sight

this year I bought Seasalt sandals, closed toe, really like them!

maybeCornish · 10/05/2024 10:35

My sandals have arrived! A couple are from Palmaira and the other two from Next. Don't plan to keep them all though.

Lovely! The second from right pair have a really cool design; I haven't seen that before

They are nice but too pointy for my feet, they are going back to Next. I used to have a similar pair in tan which I wore to death but they have now changed the style and don't work for me.
the other fit like gloves!

Riverlee · 10/05/2024 11:54

Love the Palmaira ones. How comfy are they?
