Sandals that hide or mostly cover toes?

Newnamesameoldlurker · 20/04/2024 15:05

I have very ugly toes. Every summer I start an extensive search for sandals that don't fully expose them and I always find it very difficult to find attractive styles. I keep coming back to fisherman styles but they look a bit clunky on me (I'm very tall and can't pull off anything too bulky/masculine). Any other ugly- toed women on this board who could make some suggestions?!

No suggestions sorry, but as somebody with monster munch feet I feel your pain.

pollyannaperspective · 05/05/2024 10:33

Newnamesameoldlurker thanks for starting this thread. I hadn't heard of the Solillas sandals. After seeing them suggested, I rashly ordered 2 pairs that arrived yesterday. And they are fab. Feel comfortable straightaway and accommodate my unsightly bunion perfectly.

Don't wish to derail but can someone explain the common phenomenon of disliking toes and feet.
I have met many people ( all female) who feel their feet are unattractive. Why is that so?- Genuine question.

KirstenBlest · 05/05/2024 15:57

@speakout , if you saw mine you'd understand.

I still don't understand sorry- is it a fungal nail infection? Athletes foot? Bunions Corns or verrucas?

Babies are born with such adorable little feet- how do we move from that to hating our feet?

Great thread OP. My feet are just meh too. Any suggestions for non leather closed toe sandals? It’s proving tricky.

Most likely a lifetime of wearing incorrect sizes and width tends to ruin toes

My toes are OK but my bunions are not pretty! I wear a lot of espadrilles in the summer - fine as long as it's not raining.
I've just ordered these from Next to pick up tomorrow.

I really like those. It's such a shame that they only have them in sludgy colours.

I fear that may be true. My elderly mothers feet are a mess, painful at times, the front of her feet are literally the shape of triangles with large bunions toes crossing over each other - moulded that way by decades of shoes putting pressure on her feet.
I see many naked feet a day in my yoga classes, and it is not uncommon for women to have these problems.
Reminds me of chinese foot binding.

Indeed. Yet I still see posters on S & B pages regularly recommending pointy toed shoes. My eyes water just looking at them.

my toes are fine, but I do like them vocered. I have had menorcan and they are great. For the last 5 years these from John Lewis have been my go to - Kalley, they are so versatile and comfy.

@speakout , as I said, if you saw them you'd understand. Nothing wrong with them other than they are not attractive. I've looked after my feet but they ain't pretty.

The mamaowl sandals look nice.

@DisplayPurposesOnly Thank you thank you thank you.

I have stupid wide feet and need both heel and toe closed for work and those Hotter Mary Janes are perfect with width options and buckles! I haven't been so :-) about shoes since someone on here told me about the (now sadly discontinued) wide fit Clarks Henderson's luck sandals.

I adore these, but they are quite spendy, and also don't come in my preferred shades of red or silver. Probably for the best.

This thread is deadly! I have gone from having no sandals I'm comfortable/confident to wear because they show too much of my horrible toes to having ordered three pairs and counting. Thank you so much for starting it 😁

Your post has reminded me I have a similar pair from anonymous Copenhagen I bought a year or two ago and forgot about and have never worn- these-

Im going to wear them this week! I have an awful habit of spending more than I can really afford on nice things and then not wearing them as I'm not sure how to style them.
My ultimate dream sandal at the moment is the Tod's T timeless but they are way too expensive so I'm going to refrain.

Oooh @Newnamesameoldlurker those were the ones I would choose as they do come in silver. Are they comfortable? If I'm going to splurge they have to be all day wearable
