Sandals that hide or mostly cover toes?

Newnamesameoldlurker · 20/04/2024 15:05

I have very ugly toes. Every summer I start an extensive search for sandals that don't fully expose them and I always find it very difficult to find attractive styles. I keep coming back to fisherman styles but they look a bit clunky on me (I'm very tall and can't pull off anything too bulky/masculine). Any other ugly- toed women on this board who could make some suggestions?!

Sorry to hijack, are the palmera's any good for wider feet?

Myfavouritecolourisanimalprint · 10/05/2024 14:03

Piece of Afrika have a few sandals in their range, and some fantastic colours too

KirstenBlest · 10/05/2024 14:11

@Tinytigertail , The menorcan sandals need to have a sole that is wide enough for the foot. The leather strap will have a bit of give so that it moulds to the foot. TKMaxx often have some.

Palmaira, Avarca, Mibo etc are different names for them. Not sure if all the brands are authentic, but mine are Mibo and are comfortable. My feet are wide-ish.

I normally take a wide fit as I have arthritis in my big toes so my feet have bumps and lumps. The palmeira sandals are soft leather so they have a bit of give in them and I don't find them tight or rubbing. One pair is the special thicker footbed and it's very comfy. The website advices which models come in wider than others and if you should size up or down.

The black ones from next are soft fabric so again suit my funny shaped feet as well as covering ugly toes.

I tell you, this thread has cost me a fortune!

I have joined this site all of 5 minutes and already found my people lol! Love this thread as I hate not being able to wear sandles in summer as have awful toes! So loving all these suggestions on here for alternatives!

@amter, you need the sole to be wide enough for your foot.

Never heard of these before but they look lush. Are they comfy? Literally have 3 pairs in basket 🤣

Yes, I think they're comfy - although I wouldn't wear them if I was doing a lot of walking, to be honest. There's no arch support, so if you have plantar fasciitis (for example) they won't be so good.

maybeCornish · 10/05/2024 10:35

My sandals have arrived! A couple are from Palmaira and the other two from Next. Don't plan to keep them all though.

Would you mind linking to the black ones on the right? Are they comfortable?

I don't think I'd be able to wear Palmairas as my feet are very wide. Even regular Birkenstocks are a tight fit, and possibly not wide enough as they rub my (high) arches.

maybeCornish · 11/05/2024 08:25

Here you go @TwelveAngryWhiskers

I thought that looked like the Dunlop logo but had never heard of Dunlop making sandals! They're lovely but looking at the photos, I don't think there's any chance of them being wide enough.

@TwelveAngryWhiskers in Next you can filter the shoes section by extra wide feet.

Thanks. I saw they had some nice wide fit espadrilles but they all seem to have a wedge which I'm not keen on. There were some with a low wedge but one of the reviews said something about how they were hard and scratchy.

It's really annoying having to find shoes for wide feet, and it doesn't help that I'm a 4-5 which are often narrower anyway. So often the wide options are frumpy. I managed to get a lovely pair of Clarks wide fit sandals this year but they have a bit of a wedge. It would be good to have some closed-toe, flatter options.

I wore them yesterday and they're SO comfortable. I think they'll be nice for work on summer days.
Sadly my new Oliver bonas leather fisherman pair have given me awful blisters 😓 annoying you can only find that out from wearing them and then you can't return them! Will have to see if I can sell them on vinted. But beware anyone on the thread who was thinking about buying them.

Edited

Before you go on vinted get a Compeed anti blister stick and rub it on areas where the blisters are. This should stop blisters from forming, well it’s worked for me anyway and is what the stick is supposed to do.

maybeCornish · 11/05/2024 10:03

I like those! I had similar from Scholl in black and white for the summer

itsnothingoriginal · 11/05/2024 10:17

I've found my tribe! I never get my feet out on show and usually live in TOMS all summer although they do get hot.

Fisherman styles are often very chunky and don't go with my summer outfits. I did see some nice ones in White Stuff last year but they'd sold out of my size and never came back into stock.

I bought the cheaper Solilitas from TK Maxx last year but they stretched and became loose on my feet plus they are very flat and unsupportive 😩

I've never understood why it's so difficult to get closed toe sandals as lots of people cannot/don't want to wear open sandals. Shops like Clarks and M&S never offer much choice. The White Stuff ones going out of stock so quickly should be telling retailers they are popular!

@TwelveAngryWhiskers, have you looked at Hotter? They do E and EE although not in all styles. I linked some earlier in the thread.

KettleOn919 · 11/05/2024 11:05

I've tried Palmairas but the size 3 was too tight (even after a good few wears... I did try to persevere!) and the size 4s massive. Do Solillas come up the same sizewise?

paristotokyo · 11/05/2024 12:34

@KettleOn919 I'm a 3 and find the Solillas true to size
