Wide leg jeans and trainers, I think

hotpotlover · 10/03/2024 08:20

That's ridiculous, just wear whatever you want.

I wore jeggings and ankle boots yesterday and I think I looked pretty goodm

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 10/03/2024 08:25

Swap the boots for trainers, or cowboy boots at a push. If you prefer skinny jeans, stick with them, or go for a slightly wider leg, straight cut or wide leg jeans. Aim for jeans not to be tight over your knees.

fashionable people I know seem to be buy deck shoes so I presume that’s this spring’s loafer shape.

LamonicBibber1 · 10/03/2024 08:32

Wear skinny jeans and ankle boots. It can be that simple, you can wear whatever you want, for ever 💪The "rules" aren't real. Your life and choices are primarily yours.

This! Life is short. Don’t waste it on wearing stuff that you don’t like to conform to some arbitrary rules made up by someone else to make more money!!!

I've tried other jeans but skinny's just look best on me with certain tops so I wear them more than any other style. I've also seen some amazing ankle boots with tassels on Fairfax & Favor that I'm going to purchase when they come down in price.

obsessedwithfreshbread · 10/03/2024 09:09

Mother's Day picture of Catherine released today in skinny jeans and ankle boots so if they're good enough for the princess of wales, (and she never looks frumpy) then I'm happy to keep them!

Wenttomowameadow · 10/03/2024 09:12

Whatever you do you'll be wrong. I teach gen zs and they openly mock all the fashion choices of over 30s. A wide leg would be some sort of criminal offense I'd imagine. It's best to just wear what you want.

Twinklewonderkins · 10/03/2024 09:16

If that’s what you like wear them!
I’ve just started wearing jeans again after 5 years (due to 5 stone weight loss) and never liked skinnies so have been enjoying trying different styles of loose jeans, have been buying different ones off Vinted.
loose fit jeans are a bit of a surprise if you’re used to wearing leggings/tights like I am so probably are if you’re used to skinnies too, but I’ve been wearing boyfriend fit and flared jeans with a plain fitted top and Gazelles. I’m in my 50s.

I was just coming on to point out that photo was skinny jeans and ankle boots.

But in terms of being weather appropriate skinny jeans and boots are a more cold weather look. Can't imagine wearing them in a heatwave. Skinny jeans and sandals for summer?

^^
I am a typical pear shape and imo I look terrible in skinny jeans and trousers, and I have never even bought a pair of leggings.

To balance out my hips I wear bootcut jeans and trousers, this will strike terror in others as apparently they are unfashionable. Do you know what? I don't give a toss what others think, as I look and feel great and that's what matters to me.

Galliano · 10/03/2024 10:27

Blimey...Catherine is very well turned out and attractive but pretty much epitomises frumpiness.
Of course you can wear skinny jeans and ankle boots if you want to but they will inevitably look a bit dated. I work in a dressed down industry where I don't want to create a perception that I'm old, might think I'm a stuck in the past way so for me I would never wear them to work. Skinny jeans still have their place but for me that's tucked into wellies or walking boots at the weekend!

Wecomeone · 10/03/2024 10:32

Skinny jeans and ankle boots are a classic look in my opinion. Not frumpy.
The baggy jeans and trainers look might be in fashion but doesn't mean it looks good on everyone!

Smartiepants79 · 10/03/2024 10:33

I’m not royal follower but Catherine is widely touted as being one the best dressed most elegant women in the world.
How in the hell is she ‘frumpy’?
She may not be cutting edge, catwalk fashion but frumpy????!!!

TheOGCCL · 10/03/2024 10:33

Just trousers/jeans with a looser shape, there’s all sorts to choose from. They just look fresher these days and imo are more forgiving on a more diverse range of figures.

Catherine is ridiculously skinny and her look will always be horsey classic, she’s not in the fashion business.

Skinny jeans are just a bit dated. Plenty of people still wear them but their tyranny has ended, for now. Wouldn’t say they are frumpy though, often they are more on the sexy side of things if anything.

Smartiepants79 · 10/03/2024 10:33

And most ‘fashion’ looks hideous on normal people.

Hoplolly · 10/03/2024 10:35

Looser jeans and trainers are more "fashionable" right now but I think they are a one way ticket to frumpsville.

Waittobeconnected · 10/03/2024 10:37

I’m about to get ready for the day and putting on my skinny jeans and ankle boots. I didn’t know they were frumpy until I read that thread yesterday!

I could wear my wide leg trousers but it’s been raining here and they are not practical for puddles and also I have new white trainers and I am saving them for a sunny day so they don’t get dirty.

Huh?

yes she’s not a dedicated follower of fashion, but she’s clearly far from frumpy.

and nothing is more ageing than trying to follow fashion when you’re older.

my daughter is early twenties and her and her friends all still wear skinnies.

MermaidEyes · 10/03/2024 10:51

Skinny jeans are back in and very much not frumpy judging by the piles of them in all the high street stores currently. You can't move in Primark jeans section for skinnies.
Wear them with ankle boots. They look fine.

imfae · 10/03/2024 10:52

I have stopped wearing jeggings so much recently as was getting a bit bored and realised with weight gain they probably weren't that flattering on me ( although really comfy ) .
I think if you are slim( ish ) you can probably still get away with skinny jeans .

In my wardrobe I unearthed an old pair of flared jeans which are more flattering on me . I have also got a few pairs of slightly wider legged trousers from Uniqlo which also look better on me .

I do think you should wear what you want and feel comfortable in but could order a few different shapes of trousers / jeans to see what you like / suit.

I think it is easy to get stuck in a style rut , I know I have . Having said that I read on the Times online of the up and coming trends and it all looked really boring to me .

I think I would prefer to go down the Iris Apfel route and wear what she loved ( lots of colour and huge colourful glasses ). She also lived to the grand old age of 102 .

PuppyMonkey · 10/03/2024 11:05

I’ve tried, honestly, and I just look stupid in trainers. And wide leg trousers make me look short and stumpy.

TBF even the people modelling wide leg trousers and trainers don’t look good to me.

But then I think most fashionable things around at the moment look bloody awful…

I think I’m probably on the wrong topic really.Grin

DillDanding · 10/03/2024 11:06

I held onto my skinny jeans for as long as possible but they do sadly scream unfashionable at the moment. It’s a shame as they’re so bloody flattering.

I have bought various boyfriend/mom style alternatives.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/03/2024 11:06

I wear my skinnies with turquoise dm's or converse hi tops. I don't give a damn whether it's trendy but I think I look good lol

SleepingStandingUp · 10/03/2024 11:08

Is this based on some people think Catherine looks frumpy? Don't live your life like that.
