I foolishly had a wobble and didn't buy the dress and it's now sold out everywhere (I can see) in my size 16/18.

Does anyone have any other ideas for tracking it down. It's a Monsoon bridal dress. Camilla

OR something similar.

Many thanks

Am I my just an 18. Am a bit apprehensive of ordering a 14 but I agree, too big would be too much material.....

@MontagueLeo I'm worried they'll think am a raving lunatic bride. Maybe I should just organise a round trip shopping session lol

Why on earth would they think that?
I'd do this for a dress I just wanted to wear to an event, never mind a wedding dress for a vow renewal.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 22/01/2024 12:10

I don’t understand why you don’t just order the 14 and the 22 and send them back if they’re not right. If you faff about too much, they will both be out of stock too.

ChocoChocoLatte · 22/01/2024 12:13

Because that would be >£1k

OP posts:
FlatWhiteExtraHot · 22/01/2024 12:15

I’d just put them on my credit card and send them back before the payment was due.

rainonthewindows · 22/01/2024 12:34

I'd buy the 14 and if it's a bit tight use it as motivation to get into it by the big day, you said you have plenty of time.
I also can't see 2 sizes being that bigger deal, I have clothes that vary within a size or two either way it might be that the 18 would have been too big anyway and the 14 just right and this is a sign.

PurplePansy05 · 22/01/2024 12:41

I'd order the 14, if Monsoon is anything like it used to be, and looking at the style of this dress, it will likely be closer to 16. You can drop one more size if you have plenty of time.

PrimalLass · 22/01/2024 12:42

Can you use PayPal Pay in 3? I do that for anything I might send back and make sure it's sent back before the next payment.

Verite1 · 22/01/2024 12:51

Just joining in the other voices to say buy the 14! I’m usually at least one size smaller in Monsoon so you may find it still fits. Better to try it on than lose it completely

TheCatterall · 22/01/2024 13:27

@ChocoChocoLatte have you contacted the social team and asked if they can help source a dress as it may be lurking in a store somewhere etc?

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 22/01/2024 13:38

PrimalLass · 21/01/2024 13:47

I would grab the 14 and 22. Try both on and see if you can make either work. Getting the bigger one altered to fit you perfectly would probably be the best bet.

This!
Also depends on OP´s figure and the make of the dress (excess fabric etc). Pear shaped and a small waist might be possible with a size smaller (and some tailoring).

It´s a gorgeous dress! I wish I could pull this kind of thing off, tbh...

ChocoChocoLatte · 22/01/2024 13:41

@TheCatterall I did and they just told me to sign up for the 'back in stock' email which I'd already done but they were very pleasant about it. Smile

Why didn't you buy it? There must have been a reason (and against the flow I'm thinking it was probably not a bad one Grin) - are you just panicking ir do you really love this one?

ChocoChocoLatte · 22/01/2024 13:44

@PumpkinsAndCoconuts I am unfortunately not that shape and have a few things that need to be considered. A prosthetic being one and bingo wings being another, so some dress shapes are unsuitable for that reason Grin

This is a bit similar

Use Google images to try and find something if the seamstress idea doesn't work

ChocoChocoLatte · 22/01/2024 13:50

@OneFrenchEgg I'm notorious for knee jerk reactions so for once in my life wanted to 'mull it over'

We literally only decided the other day to organise a vow renewal. I am not a showy/big fuss kind of person but my daughters want us to do it and due to health implications it might be nice. I'm unlikely to celebrate any more 'big' birthdays so a big anny and celebrating lovely DH seemed like a nice thing to do.

It wouldn't be until much later in the year but was taking a stroll through the Monsoon sale and noticed it.

I don't want anything big/lacey/brides but seeing as I was so incredibly disappointed by me dress at our wedding, I thought something like this would be nice rather than rocking up in my usual jammies and slippers combo Blush

I never for one second considered that brand new stock would sell out that quickly. I have no clue how many stock items they order/hold but didn't think it would be a sell out so soon after Christmas.

Completely my own fault and thought by the power of Mumnset we might find a solution.

Everyone has been incredibly kind with all their help and suggestions.

I just got my wedding dress for £25 on vinted!

I bet some people will have bought the monsoon dress you want for an early spring wedding (sleeves!) and will soon put it on vinted for a fraction of the price. Watch vinted and eBay like a hawk!

Also I've noticed a lot of high street wedding dresses for sale second hand still brand new with tags. I think people buy more than one lower priced dress for their wedding, decide which to wear and sell the spares. Mines a coast one, brand new but £25 instead of £145 🤍

Girlwithapple · 22/01/2024 15:38

It's a shame that no-one has done a review yet to say about the fit, although it does look very roomy on the model.

I've bought a few things from Monsoon recently, mostly they do come up a bit big but there are exceptions - I bought a jumper and a top that I could easily have gone down 2 sizes in but a waistcoat that I really need to go up 2 sizes in, so a bit hit and miss!

I know it is a hassle ordering multiple sizes- not to mention the cost but I would second ordering a 14 and 22. There's only 1 left in the 22 so if the 14 isn't right for you then you may miss out on the dress 😯

HeidiWhole · 22/01/2024 15:46

There's some gorgeous Monsoon dresses in your size on Vinted, OP.

NewYear24 · 22/01/2024 15:53

How about this, it’s a size 18.

I should have bought the dress - please help.
TheSquareMile · 22/01/2024 16:26

There's a Monsoon near where I live. Would you like me to ask whether they have this dress?

QueenOfWeeds · 22/01/2024 16:30

@ChocoChocoLatte I know it’s out of stock on the John Lewis site, but if anything remotely near your size comes up, you could do click and collect to a store, try it on there, and then return straight away if no good. I’ve done it before, they were v nice about it, and if you time it right and pay on credit then the refund comes through before you have to pay, if that makes sense.

MassageForLife · 22/01/2024 16:47

I would try phoning them. They have a 'fashion finder' service. I can't see how to access it online. but it's worth a phone call. https://help.monsoon.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/360001558511-What-is-your-Fashion-Finder-Delivery-Service-

Their order number is 0203 7388 836

Good luck!
