It’s for the ceremony of my daughter’s bat mitzvah so similar to mother of the bride but 10-20 years younger! I’ll get it shortened and possibly change the shoes.
The photos are bad because I have no idea how to pose for selfies.

You have a gorgeous figure but I don't think this dress is flattering on you .
Sorry ,but it's very drab .

Confuzzleduzzled · 27/12/2023 14:06

Thank you @lenalemonade. What do you think would suit me? It needs to have the tops of my arms covered for modesty purposes and my knees covered because I don’t like them.

It looks fine from the front. I don't think it looks "drab" or that it needs to be shortened. From the side it looks too small.

KirstenBlest · 27/12/2023 14:16

Keep the shoes and return the dress. It doesn't seem to fit you.

Smittenkitchen · 27/12/2023 14:16

I think it looks gorgeous, if the colour suits you!

ancientnames · 27/12/2023 14:17

I like it. It’s a lovely color. I presume it has to be quite modest and not too ‘out there’.

BlazingJune · 27/12/2023 14:19

Sorry but no.

The sleeves are too long and full and make you look dumpy.
It looks a bit big on the bust where it wraps over and the bottom but it's tight across your hips so doubt you could go down a size.

Maybe go for something more simple, without the lace and the wide sleeves?

Look at J Lewis online.
Maybe 3/4 length sleeves, a fitted waist and a pencil type skirt?

It’s not a good fit for your fab figure. I think high waisted trousers with a tucked in blouse would do you more justice. Or a maxi/midi with heeled boots. The length of your dress is an unflattering inbetween.

Your dress is also tight in the wrong places and a bit unstructured on the top.

Yes, I don't like the fussy, fluted sleeves. I think the fit looks ok from the front but side on it's too tight.

BlazingJune · 27/12/2023 14:23

Something like Hobbs Saige dress- v-neck, 3/4 sleeves, fitted waist, knee length.
It's in the sale now too.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 27/12/2023 14:24

I agree that it's not madly flattering as it doesn't seem to fit your shape. The colour is lovely on you though.

BlazingJune · 27/12/2023 14:26

Hobbs do a Melodie velvet shift dress in dark green, but it's a neater fit and smaller sleeves than the one you posted.

Gardeningtime · 27/12/2023 14:26

I don’t like the sleeves, but it doesn’t need shortening , it’s the right length,

SecondUsername4me · 27/12/2023 14:28

There's way too much going on around the top - the shoulders look an odd fit, the wrap part is either too much fabric or not snug enough and the sleeves are just ott.

You have a great figure and this dress isn't complementing it.

Have you got any other dresses?

DontPutTheKidsThroughIt · 27/12/2023 14:29

It looks nice from the front but from the side the cross over under the bust is sagging down which is making it look small everywhere else. It’s a good shape and colour but you need a version without the extra fabric under the bust.

Cotswoldmama · 27/12/2023 14:29

I love it and the colour, I don't think the fit is bad either!

DontPutTheKidsThroughIt · 27/12/2023 14:30

If you’ve already got the dress and are short on time you could try tacking the crossover down a bit tighter under the bust

Neilsfavouritechilli · 27/12/2023 14:31

Would something like this suit you?

This is gorgeous !!!!

@Confuzzleduzzled I think waist down its unflattering, I love the rest though

whatchagonnado · 27/12/2023 14:32

It doesn't seem to fit that well and the sleeves are too baggy

Catlord · 27/12/2023 14:34

Sorry but I think the main problem it is too big on you all over and too loose. A jumpsuit would look great on your figure. The floaty sleeves and pointy shoes are a bit dated

Have you got any other dresses to try?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 27/12/2023 14:37

That's really nice. The more I look at the OP's dress the more I don't like it. It's very fussy and too tight on bum and hips and too loose elsewhere. It's quite low cut but I think that's because it doesn't fit rather than deliberate.

That Monsoon dress looks like a dress you can put on and forget about as it's so wearable.
