It’s for the ceremony of my daughter’s bat mitzvah so similar to mother of the bride but 10-20 years younger! I’ll get it shortened and possibly change the shoes.
The photos are bad because I have no idea how to pose for selfies.

French Connection have some good bargains too. This might work.

I think your dress is nicer than the suggestions in the thread. It's a lovely colour, suits your figure and I like the length too.

ginasevern · 27/12/2023 14:50

Love the colour but the dress is too fussy and doesn't seem to fit properly in certain places. It doesn't do your figure justice. Sorry.

Pookerrod · 27/12/2023 14:56

The dress doesn’t fit you properly. You have a lovely hourglass figure but this dress is designed to give people an hourglass when they don’t have them.

the green is a lovely colour on you. You should wear a dress that makes the most of your slim waist whilst skimming over your chest and hips. Something that flows from the hips would look lovely.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Some of the dresses linked feel really drab to me though I can see that they might fit better. I would tack the bust of the dress as it is a bit gapey.
I quite like the Hobbs Rosalie dress but the neckline won’t work. I have a big bust (32H) and v neck looks better. Also red velvet is a bit Christmassy 😁

I quite like the Oliver bonas but I don’t think the top will work for me.
For those who suggested a jumpsuit, unfortunately it has to be a skirt/dress.

Sorry but that really is an awful dress.
The sleeves 'take over' and end on the waist, and there's too much going on around the bust.

I think the issue is you want the dress to do the talking when in fact a simple dress in a nice fabric will be more of a statement if it shows off your figure.

All you'd need would be a nice necklace, or earrings perhaps or a bracelet.

hopeishere · 27/12/2023 15:24

It's not great. It doesn't seem to fit anywhere. The sleeves are horrible and the lace is dated.

What's your budget?

EllaPaella · 27/12/2023 15:27

OP your dress is far nicer than any of the others that have been suggested.

Snacx · 27/12/2023 15:39

I felt the dress gave vintage vibes, the colour looks fab on you but im so surprised that you are 32H i thought you're a pear from how loose and gapey it is at the shoulders and bust. If your heart is set on it I would say wear high waisted shaping shorts or get better ones if you were wearing some, shorted the dress by 2inches so the lace is just on the knee or barely below and get nude or purple or green or blue shoes. Black is too officey. Do your hair in a retro fashion, too with red lipstick and 1950s eyeliner.

Snacx · 27/12/2023 15:39

Metalic gold or silver heels would work, too.

Confuzzleduzzled · 27/12/2023 15:47

@Snacx I am slightly more pear shaped than hourglass as my hips are even bigger than my bust.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 27/12/2023 16:11

You’ve got the figure to go bodycon. Much better than a dress that is designed to skim but doesn’t as the proportions don’t work.

something like this

I try not to be judgemental, but I really hate that dress. It’s badly fitting and horribly fussy. I guess it is appropriate to the occasion , but dreary and depressing. I feel that a celebrating a daughters coming of age ought to be at least in part about presenting her with strong positive and exciting images of adult womanhood. You are lucky to have a fine body. Buy something that you feel great in. I like this, but you may not. It’s from the Fold.

I don't think the dress you posted is flattering on you. Noting you say you have a big bust, why not something like this? It covers sleeves, would be a flattering neckline, similar length to what you've already chosen. I don't think it's particularly fashion forward, but if you want a safe and relatively conservative style it would work?

I love this. It's timeless, classy will show off your figure and can be dressed up with jewellery.

Nice too.

All simple, figure hugging and stylish v- neck, long sleeves, decent length

Risun · 27/12/2023 16:39

@Vinoveritass has a couple of great suggestions.

I agree and tbh apart from the Monsoon red velvet and the one you've suggested I don't like any of the other suggestions either. The Bombshell one is dreary and the figure hugging , v- neck ones are just variations of the original over fussy dress.

There are several other possibilities on The Fold.
