@Experiment627 - work was absolutely the most inspiring environment for these terms. (I may or may not have educated my awesome boss, too.)

LilyJessie · 27/05/2024 15:02

That goodie bag is absolutely incredible!!
Never even heard of Superdrug Presents!

Wherediditgoto · 27/05/2024 15:51

Seems to be sold out now.

Experiment627 · 29/05/2024 16:07

I think this is only the second year of Superdrug Presents. Last year it was in February and I got a discounted ticket as I am part of Superdrug's loyalty program... then this year again I was alerted to the discounted tickets but left it too late to book... then I got sent a link to get 2 free tickets as I have VIP status on the loyalty program!😬🤭🤣

The event was bigger this year (ie more brands there) but was equally as packed - despite an extra day being added and more space at the venue.

@Fraaahnces I swear so much at work! Probably need to look at that and try and be more lady like....

I have two empties to report:

  • Nivea Creme Care shower gel: original Nivea scent which I adore. Got this at Poundland or similar... so much cheaper than elsewhere. Will defo RP at some point.
  • Superdrug B. Menopause Firming Serum: am trying out a load of this new range currently. This is probably my least favourite item - did not seem to firm and did not feel very moisturising on.

wheresmyshoe · 29/05/2024 19:34

37/100

Votary moisturiser- nice, light, easily absorbed but I need something more full on.
Starskin mask - this was ok but not as good as some of the other gel masks. Effective but not 10 years younger plumping
Eye masks- I like these a lot, definitely made me look like I'd had a decent night's sleep and plumped under eye. Always happy to see them in beauty boxes.
No pic - massive bar of lavender soap, finally finished after at least six months. Lovely but no way a rebuy as I have a ton of bar soap to work through.

@Experiment627 I swear too much also. It’s just so…. Therapeutic. Also conveys thoughts and meaning better than more “imaginative/intelligent” words.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 30/05/2024 09:55

@Fraaahnces @Experiment627 I recall reading something about a study that showed a correlation between swearing and intelligence. They were using a large vocabulary as a measure of intelligence though.

Experiment627 · 30/05/2024 18:14

Amazing! So actually swearing is good, in many ways! I swear in multiple languages... Spanish swearing phrases are so funny... lots of different ways to 💩

I have an empty to report:

  • Fresh Sugar watermelon hydrating lip balm: have wanted to try something from Fresh for yonks. I used my Space NK points to get this - was around £15 which I think it a LOT to pay for a lip balm. Very reminiscent to me of the old school Body Shop ones from the 80s. Nothing to write home about. Aquaphor/Eucerin one way way way better and loads less cachinga.

@OchonAgusOchonOh - so if I have a larger vocabulary of swear words, does that make me a genius? I swear fluently in German and Dutch and can throw in some French and Italian also. (My Dutch is “functional”, the rest rudimentary at best.)

OchonAgusOchonOh · 31/05/2024 08:31

@Fraaahnces @Experiment627

I'm in awe of the pair of you, with your polyglotal talents. I

need to expand my repertoire. I'm a fluent swearer in English and know a few in Irish and French. However, I have a couple of friends whose first language is Irish and a sil and niece and nephew who are Spanish. I need to get them to start teaching me

Fraaahnces · 31/05/2024 08:36

Sometimes foreign swearing is so much more imaginative and descriptive. I think it says a lot about the psyche of the culture too.

Agreed.

I've decided I need a new hobby before I retire. Maybe researching swearing in different cultures is the way to go. I could write a book.

Fraaahnces · 31/05/2024 13:20

Would be the most entertaining thesis

I'll go with a PhD first and publish the book from that.

Empties:
Joules shower cream - very floral, nice and thick. Might use it again if on sale.

Elemis toner - don’t feel like I need one. Doesn’t really do anything, but feels nice.

Pharmacy honey halo - @OchonAgusOchonOh had a review on it here and it was on my wish-list so I got it! Really like it, suits my dry skin. Have another jar and eye cream too.

Ren toner - this is often in beauty boxes. Don’t like it, it stings and feels sticky.

Lancome night peel - this has two sides to it. I had to use nr1 for 14 days and then I could move to phase two for another 14 days. I got almost 2 rounds out of it. Phase 1 is not too bad but phase 2 felt like acid. My eyes and nose were stinging. It actually peeled skin around my mouth, not sure what to do with these “results”.

L’occitane body scrubs x2 - really nice for daily use.

L’occitane rose perfume - smells like camomile tea.

Glow recipe toner - so small I can’t really review it. Good I guess.

Grow Gorgeous scalp scrub - really unnecessary, but smells nice.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 31/05/2024 13:42

@ItookYourJob I'm glad you liked the honey halo too.

ItookYourJob · 31/05/2024 13:45

Also this: Liz Earle scrub - The other week I scrubbed my bathroom, made it really nice, fresh and sparkly. Used this thing and it stank out all my fresh bathroom within minutes. Smelt like fish and mud. Used it on my feet. Wasn’t old or off. I checked orher reviews and other people had the same complaint. That multilanguage swear book would’ve been handy. 🫠

clary · 31/05/2024 19:43

Oooh im a big swearer too. I swear in French at work (MFL ex-teacher) and then recall my nearby colleague is French! French Canadian swearing is great - Calisse! Tabernak!!

Anywsy more empties:
Weleda lavender bath milk - HG I love this
Elemus rose cleanser - another HG plus adore the smell
Le Labo rose fragrance - from Liberty AC LOVE IT
Aldi bath stuff - Ok
Sunday Riley Vit C - like this but v tiny bottle, think it was in a GWP?

@clary I do love a floral fragrance!

We'd never have guessed😁

Fraaahnces · 01/06/2024 01:56

I have finished another perfume. Lanvin EDP. Beautiful spring/summer fragrance with longevity. A little sweet for me, but everyone seemed to like it. Still nursing the last of my Aura by Thierry Mügler. Love.
I was gifted two fragrances by 4711. Remember them? Eau de Nanna. These two are both fine for work but weird. One is an orange-based one in a “funky” bottle. The other is the traditional bottle, but Lily of the Valley-based/ I quite like LOTV, but this is softer. (I prefer sharper, greener versions, but it’s a nice, wear to bed fragrance) I intend to use these guys up quickly.

Experiment627 · 01/06/2024 07:19

@Fraaahnces which Lanvin fragrance was it? And why oh why can they not revert to the original formula with Arpege? 😭😭😭
Looking forward to your book.

OP posts:
Fraaahnces · 01/06/2024 08:12

I made a mistake! It wasn’t Lavin, but Carven “Le Parfum”.
Meanwhile, according to Fragrantica, the “old” Arpege was a reconstruction of a 1927 fragrance. The new one seems to have ditched the aldehydes top notes of the earlier version. Perhaps because of the cost, or maybe because they were not in fashion when Arpege was reformulated for the third time.

Hi all. Been away for a week and for some reason lost the thread.

I’ll join in the swearing appreciation. We Irish love a good swear. DH hates it. Says there is no need. Just makes me do it more to be honest!

I have been using things up but not had any empties for a bit. And have actually bought stuff. The M&S Summer Beauty Bag arrived yesterday. Which I thought was really good value. Only thing I’m not mad on is the Ren toner. And I bought the Caroline Hirons Travel Kit. I know she’s a bit marmite for some but I quite like her. And I had had wine and was in a bad mood because of the shitty weather and just bought it.

I do need another sort out now. Especially of travel sizes. I took some with me when I went away with my sisters last week and let them have a lucky dip so reduced the stash a bit.
