I can't do this alone folks. I've got TOO MUCH STUFF... I also have 2 beauty advent calendars

So I've set myself a challenge. Between now and June the 1st 2024 I will not buy any beauty products UNLESS I've run out of all of that particular type. If I've got a tiny sample bottle of shampoo or conditioner I'll use it all up. All those half used bottles of moisturiser, night cream, shower gel and toner and body lotion MUST GO... the mountain of soap must be surmounted.

My only concession is that I will not cancel the Liberty Beauty drop will get a couple of boxes to cheer me up

So if you want to join me make up your own rules and lets cull that stash

I haven't been in for a while +several nc's. Life in the way etc.

Just de-lipsticked my horde. Some of these are very old and I only use one or two at a time. Got rid of all my Lipstick Queens as the tubes were weirdly sticky on the outside.

Right... you heard it here first... I've decided not to buy the Liberty Advent calendar. There are quite a few high value items I don't like / want so it would simply be a waste.

I will however buy the M&S AC as it's always good value and I normally use everything in it / give makeup to DD. Last year I had both ACs.

However I now have a short shopping list of things I DO need or at least will very shortly so when the GWP for Liberty comes out in September I will be buying

Either votary or Dr Seburgh serum (not both I only need one)
Sunday Riley Luna night oil
Malin and Gotz shampoo and conditioner
POSSIBLY some dermatologica face wash

I basically have half of a tiny tube of serum, a small bottle of oil and half used 100ml bottles of shampoo and conditioner from the last beauty drop. I think I will be out of them all before long. However I've still got quite a couple of face washes from beauty drop boxes hence possibly needing them.

I'd like to have a decent GWP as well because I'll have done a fairly successful 10 months buying ban by then. Hopefully some of the things in that will mean I can hold back from buying things I'm currently a bit low on e.g. moisturiser, hair oil, eye cream
Things I don't currently need

Shower gel
Face masks
Hand cream
moisturiser
body cream
sun block
lip balm
soap ( I really really don't need soap!)
perfume
hair oil (when I top up on this I'll be getting the Charlotte Mensah one which was in an AC and I was gutted when I finished)
deodorant
body exfoliator
Eye cream
sleep spray
candles
bubble bath
make up simply because I don't wear it

Even after a 10 month ban I've still got enough of these to last a while although I've topped up on a couple of them because I actually run out and also got quite a bit for Christmas without which I'd certainty have run out of moisturiser, body cream and bubble bath by now

I've got a few things to list on the empties thread when I get round to it and I think I'm really close to hitting my target of 100 items used for the year. Once I've done that I'll work out my new net figure

It's nice to have a specific list of things I'm going to NEED in the near future and a list of things I don't NEED even if some come in a GWP. If Liberty don't have a good one this year those of you in a different hemisphere will hear the tantrum from there

Oh and night cream I don't need that at the moment either

I love the luna night oil @listsandbudgets

@Fedupandstressed How did I miss your post and that phenomonal lipstick declutter. It's absolutely incredible how our piles build up isn't it? Well done.

Sorry to see your user name - hope whatever is causing you to feel like that improves soon - real life can be a sod sometimes Flowers

@Fraaahnces How was the surgeon appointment? I hope it wasn't too stressful

I'm going to get the Boots premium AC. I got it last year and for £99 it was phenomenal 😀

And I've already bought the Harrods fragrance one.

That's it for this year. Apart from the DiL's AC. I might get her the Anthropology one instead of H &B this year.

Fraaahnces · 18/08/2024 02:10

@listsandbudgets - it was quite dramatic, tbh… I was admitted and needed a procedure that was quite traumatizing. The results were better than expected - so good! Just waiting for meds to be rejigged and BP to catch up and stop bottoming out.

Sorry to hear it was traumatising but delighted that the results were positive. Hope they get the needs sorted out soon.

QueefofSheena · 18/08/2024 22:12

Just catching up. I haven’t bought anything apart from SPF for a while. I did pre-order the Harrods Fragrance AC but I don’t count perfume.

Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to Clarins Instant Smooth? I have a small pot and really like it. Beauty Pie do one but I cancelled my membership. I’m not going to rejoin until I’ve run out of their stuff that I use.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 18/08/2024 22:57

@QueefofSheena how were you able to preorder the advent calensar from Harrods? I have been trying but it doesn’t allow me to add it.

I suppose it’s a good thing 😞

QueefofSheena · 19/08/2024 07:16

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel I did it a couple of weeks back when they announced the pre-order. There may be another chance when it’s released, like last year. I think it’s 1st Sept but check the beauty AC thread as that is really good for release dates etc

Minnie123456 · 21/08/2024 23:32

I think I need to come off the style and beauty threads from now until Christmas, everytime I see an AC mentioned I have to google it, I don't need anymore.

I am currently searching for a new shampoo, my hair has been gradually getting thinner so I'm looking something that might help

listsandbudgets · 26/08/2024 22:25

It's over... 9 1/2 months so not awful

I've ordered some very expensive serum and oil from Liberty and the GWP is coming with it (better be!!) In a sense I've not broken my rules as I have completely run out of oil and serum but the GWP was a bit of a bonus.

Quite a few other bits I'd like to get soon but going to do it slowly and quality things rather than lots of cheaper products.

I've got about a dozen things to add to the empties thread in the next few days then once I've received the liberty package and counted everything up I'll do a new net figure

Still being tempted by ACs but determined to just have the M&S one this year although not quite sure how determined yet. In a way though I'd rather wait for another really good GWP and buy things I actually need with that as a bonus rather than slinging a load of cash at an AC that may have lots of things I don't like

@Fraaahnces That sounds awful - sometimes these tests and procedures are insult and injury on top of the thing we have in the first place. I'm glad the results were OK though. Poor you, you're having a rough time.

Well done @listsandbudgets ! Thank you for starting this thread.

Fraaahnces · 28/08/2024 13:49

Well done @listsandbudgets! 9.5months could have been an entirely new human! So impressive. You have earned your haul. Relish every drop!!!
I have had a rough trot lately. Phoned my GP today and feel like together we are armed with a (long-term) action plan. Exhausted, but satisfied that things are afoot. (I would be twirling my mustache if I had one. *checks just in case…)

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 29/08/2024 10:58

Happy you have a plan now @Fraaahnces .

Hopefully things start improving now xx

listsandbudgets · 29/08/2024 11:07

The liberty parcel arrived and I'm not even home for anfew days. dd opened ot to check for me and is already optimistic laying claim to a few items. I've told her to wait until I'm back tomorrow so we can decide it up.

She will hit all the make up as I never use it amd maybe something else but it's MINE

I’ve been missing in action for a bit as had a friend from Australia staying so haven’t been checking the the thread much.

@Fraaahnces - sorry it’s all still a bit bumpy health wise but I will keep my fingers crossed that you get a solid plan of action going forward.

@listsandbudgets - well done! You have stuck to your buying ban so well. I’ve been rubbish. However I resisted the latest Caroline Hirons kit yesterday.

I was planning in getting the Liberty AC but there are a few things that I’m not keen on and I have decided not to get it. Or any expensive one. I may get the M&S one though. Although I really really don’t need anything! I do have £259 in beauty drop credit that I need to use at some stage though…..

I have GOT to reduce my stash. And stick to things I know I like and resist the shiny new kits and boxes and ACs etc etc.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 30/08/2024 18:32

Since being in a psychiatric unit for approx a month recently I’ve had to rely on people to buy things for me. I’ve actually had lighter moisturisers (Nivea and Simple) bought which suit my skin better than ones in jars but I think I’m more suited to getting the item out of the jar, dislike squeezing it all out. I had a Champneys luxury bath foam which I also used as a shower gel plus Lush sleep or dreamy shower gel. I also had a normal Olay night cream and I’ve got 2 Sanex deodorant/antiperspirants too. I hardly wore makeup there apart from preparing for a Zoom interview. The makeup things I think I’ll change are the blusher (currently use expensive powder one). I’ve got Daniel Sandler watercolour liquid blusher but I don’t like how it comes out quickly so you can waste it. I’ve got an old Maybelline cream blusher but I’m sure it’s discontinued now. I am now though being strict as to what I use and buy. I bought new eco makeup remover pads as I think someone threw mine away by mistake. And when I go out I’m still using my glitter etc eyeshadow.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain - sorry to read you have been unwell. I hope you are doing better now.

listsandbudgets · 31/08/2024 19:41

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain Hello lovely to have you back with us. I'm sorry you've been unwell and stuck in hospital. I hope you're feeling better now you're out. Sometimes life doles out sh*t in huge proportions Flowers

I think you're right - some of the basic products such as nivea have stood the test of time for a reason. They're well priced, light on the skin and do the job. I'm using a nivea day cream at the moment and it's a pleasant, simple and effective product.

However, I'm afraid I'm a product addict and likely to stay that way.

So here are my new net figures - sorry everyone still trying to hold myself to account - they're not going to be very good this time!!

Total out 106

My last figures for numbers in since November 6th was 39. However since then I've bought

Sunscreen
Oil
Serum
Liberty GWP which contained 16 items. 4 of those went immediately to DD and candle is marked as a Christmas present for SIL so that's 11 left to count. I honestly don't regret getting this it's a great collection of stuff and certainly means I won't need to buy any more serum for quite some time to go.

From now on I'm going to try to stick to buying good quality things when I NEED them and if they come with a nice GWP... oh well never mind!! I am happy I've done this and may have another go next year for a few months as I do think it's worth it to make sure I actually work through what I've got rather than keep buying more. I'm not sure whether I'll manage such a long stint again though.

So new total in is 53 in.

New net figure is oddly enough 53 out;

Those of you who are still on a ban please keep coming back and tell us how you're getting on. I will still be using this thread to hold myself to account...

memo... one AC not two...

Hi @GonnaGetGoingReturns Sorry you’ve been unwell. I hope you’re feeling much better now! Glad you found something that suits you as well! I loooove the scent of Nivea. Can’t use it on my face as my eyes are sensitive, but would happily use it everywhere else. I also love the blue tins.
The trick with the Daniel Sandler watercolor blush is to shake it really well before you open it (it can thicken up a bit sometimes when the pigment is dispersed properly) and use the back of your non-dominant hand as a palette. Just let a dot out at a time and pat it onto your hand with your brush or fingers before your face.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 31/08/2024 20:47

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain I hope you're feeling better.

I know what you mean about getting things out of jars being nicer than tubes. It feels more luxurious or pampering somehow.

You can get nivea in tubs. Not quite a jar but more similar than a tube. I really like the Nivea soft one.
