I can't do this alone folks. I've got TOO MUCH STUFF... I also have 2 beauty advent calendars

So I've set myself a challenge. Between now and June the 1st 2024 I will not buy any beauty products UNLESS I've run out of all of that particular type. If I've got a tiny sample bottle of shampoo or conditioner I'll use it all up. All those half used bottles of moisturiser, night cream, shower gel and toner and body lotion MUST GO... the mountain of soap must be surmounted.

My only concession is that I will not cancel the Liberty Beauty drop will get a couple of boxes to cheer me up

So if you want to join me make up your own rules and lets cull that stash

I finished a perfume this morning.. only a 10ml bottle though. Other than little samples I can't remember the last time I had an empty perfume bottle!

@Cyclingmummy1 I can't see that using the night ones will do any harm. To be honest I've never quite worked out why we need to use different ones at different times though I expect there's a perfectly valid reason.

Still not bought any sun screen and getting close to end of the UltraSun. Perhaps a small purchase to come then - that will be exciting - trouble will be restraining myself from buying anything else at the same time Grin

I’ve just ordered the latest bridal beauty charity box 😬 I justified it as it claims to have SPF so that’s medicinal 😁

listsandbudgets · 02/07/2024 16:56

@QueefofSheena I'd never heard of those... they look great.. now I want one.. how could you do this to me Grin

@listsandbudgets its my first one too. Hope it’s good! 🤞

I'm still banning myself. 8 months.. this is getting boring now!! Shopping my stash is all very well but I want to go out and choose something or buy a kit...

The Liberty Beauty Drop Box is coming next week and I'm really looking forward to it.

I've think I've now used up all my sachets of moisturiser. I've got a couple of small tubs from beauty boxes and goodness knows how much stuff at my mums but should be there a lot over the summer to use at least some of it up.

I found a 100g tube of hand cream this morning completely untouched... I mean where did that even come from, I swear it breeds.

I'm bored of this ban though intend to carry through to until September now. My birthday is late in the month and I intend to treat myself then and crossing fingers for a really good GWP. I hadn't actually realised how much I ENJOY buying these things which can't be particularly healthy Grin

@QueefofSheena Did you bridal charity box turn up? Are you pleased with it?

QueefofSheena · 09/07/2024 19:32

@listsandbudgets it’s a nice a haul and came with 6 CT perfume samples. I totted up the prices and got to well over £100, the Elemis oil alone is priced at more than the whole bag. The only thing I’m not likely to use is the tinted leg stuff so I’ll pass that on.

I broke my beauty buying ban 🤦‍♀️ I bought Nivea Q10 gradual tanner as I had a few nights out and wanted a slight tan, it smells amazing though. I also bought the Cosrx snail mucin which I didn't need.
Liberty beauty drop is due soon and I also got an email about preordering the liberty ac.
@listsandbudgets it takes me forever to finish perfume as well, I've been using two bottles for about 4 years. Well done on 8 months on your buying ban!!
@QueefofSheena that box looks lovely, might have to go have a wee look lol

QueefofSheena · 10/07/2024 23:44

Perfume is my thing. I wear it even if I’m alone and not planning to go anywhere. I get through loads of it, I’m currently working through various 10ml and sample bottles from Floral Street.

Minnie123456 · 10/07/2024 23:55

Was looking through my stash for shower gel and I found a soap & glory gradual tanner so didn't need to buy the nivea one 🤦‍♀️ I really need to organise my stash, I have stuff everywhere.

suburburban · 12/07/2024 13:22

I'm away and have decanted all my products for travel

I am using them up slowly.

@listsandbudgets , You've done so well! I was on the thread ages ago and failed. But needs must now, big lifestyle change ahead. I'll make a separate post for the details but I wanted to say how well you've done. Even if you are bored of it! 😀Not long till September.

ITookYourJoob · 13/07/2024 09:14

Joining this thread as I’m now on beauty buying ban too. I’ll start with one month and see how it goes🫠

EuniceLopril · 13/07/2024 11:06

So current assessment is that I have done better than I thought, I actually bought much less since I joined the thread but I still have too much of everything. I cancelled Liberty BD when they changed the Ts&Cs.

Makeup, hair conditioner and perfume are my biggest challenges. Makeup in particular, as I let my hair colour grow out during Covid. My natural shade now is so far away from the shade it was dyed and I have struggled a lot trying to find what lip and cheek colours suit me best now. Most of my previous colours that I knew worked well with my hair and skintone no longer work.
I intend to do some decluttering this afternoon to get rid of the shades that are now heinous on me and to focus on what I want to try to use up over the next couple of months. I have been surprised to note how long one blusher, for example, actually lasts. It's been enlightening to discover just how many products are a disappointment.

Just curious, what did people here do about stuff that was ok/just meh? I know I should get rid 😂

My new end of challenge date is slightly more than 6 months from now, end of January 2025. I will need to buy more shampoo and mascara but otherwise there is nothing that I don't have enough of!

Peridot1 · 13/07/2024 11:39

Hi all.

I have been rubbish. Again. Bought the recent Caroline Hirons Kit. Find it very hard to resist them.

I cancelled the Liberty BD too @EuniceLopril. I have £259 in credit. And the Advent Calendar is £260! So I’m avoiding any spoilers about the calendar and am just going to buy it when it’s out. And I’m not buying anything else till then!

Although I have a £5 Space NK voucher expiring today……..

listsandbudgets · 13/07/2024 12:24

@Minnie123456 Well at least you won't need to buy any more tanner for a bit - hopefully will last you through the summer.

@QueefofSheena I also love perfume and use it when I'm alone. However as I have about 25 bottles and hardly ever use the same 2 days running, it takes me quite a long time to get through anything. I find it really relaxing every morning to choose which one to wear. By the way very jealous of your haul. I'm using the Ultrasun at the moment and certainly rate it. I will probably buy some more when I've finished all my others.

@EuniceLopril Welcome back and good luck with the decluttering. I've never worn makeup so that is at least one thing less to worry about for me. It had never crossed my mind that dying hair would change the make up you need but I suppose it makes sense.

I have only chucked one thing out because I really didn't like it. In general if it does the job it's meant to, I can bear the smell and texture and doesn't cause me any skin problems I use up because I don't really like waste stuff.

I kept the LIberty BD as I do like a surprise and from Liberty's point of view it came at a good moment as the stationery box I'd been subscribing to went out of business so I was able to commit to something else. I may yet cancel though. I'm still undecided about their AC, I'd like to see what the other offerings are first.

@ITookYourJoob Welcome to the mad house. We seem to do it two ways here. Organised people categorise their stash and know exactly what they've got and work through it. Disorganised people like me hunt through it and when they eventually can't find shampoo, conditioner, hand cream etc etc finally buy some more. People like me run the risk of something suddenly turning up or buying extra by accident but I quite like going through it all so will carry on doing so

What amazes me about this ban is how little I've had to buy and how much I still seem to have left.

I've got some more stuff to add to the finished thread and after I've done that and got the BD I will calculate my new net total.

@Peridot1 I'm sorry I've been meaning to ask for ages but I was wondering how your sister was. I hope things are improving for her

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 13/07/2024 13:29

@listsandbudgets - thanks for asking. She is doing well. Although currently has covid for the second time in a month! Immune system is still attempting to attack the new liver which apparently happens in abut 50% of cases. But as they are aware they can keep it under control. Bloods were good this week so Covid is obviously keeping the immune system occupied fighting an actual virus rather than her poor innocent liver!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 13/07/2024 14:07

Good to hear she's doing well @Peridot1 Hopefully she'll get over the covid quickly and easily.

listsandbudgets · 15/07/2024 09:14

@Peridot1 I'm so pleased to hear that they're keep things under control.

Never thought anyone would find a benefit to getting covid but you live and learn!!

Fraaahnces · 16/07/2024 05:04

@Peridot1 I have been meaning to ask how she is going. Glad Covid has worked well for someone for once! I’m on the waiting list for an implanted defibrillator/pacemaker which will hopefully keep me off the transplant list a bit longer. Who knows? Every time I see a doctor the advice changes.

TheChosenTwo · 16/07/2024 07:42

Have used up so much, feeling really
pleased with myself!
Not sure if this is the thread for empties, I thought there was another one in S&B…
Saw a Spoiler for the LBD - looks really good (for me) apart from one thing so happy about that when it comes.

Fraaahnces · 16/07/2024 08:20

I broke my no-buy. TBF, it’s something I have wanted to try for years. Glossier has finally graced us with their presence. I have resisted buying Futuredew which sounds perfect for me as I would have had to pay a further 50% in postage. I bought it today with a birthday voucher. (Haven’t tried it on my face yet, but it felt nice on my dried up paw, so I think it will be fine for an old duck like myself.)

Peridot1 · 16/07/2024 09:35

@Fraaahnces - I have been wondering how you were doing. It’s so frustrating when they keep changing their advice!
