I can't do this alone folks. I've got TOO MUCH STUFF... I also have 2 beauty advent calendars

So I've set myself a challenge. Between now and June the 1st 2024 I will not buy any beauty products UNLESS I've run out of all of that particular type. If I've got a tiny sample bottle of shampoo or conditioner I'll use it all up. All those half used bottles of moisturiser, night cream, shower gel and toner and body lotion MUST GO... the mountain of soap must be surmounted.

My only concession is that I will not cancel the Liberty Beauty drop will get a couple of boxes to cheer me up

So if you want to join me make up your own rules and lets cull that stash

@narniabusiness Yes, the one I have is for use in place of regular conditioner so applied to wet hair after shampooing. Going to try a new hair mask today, it's a 200ml tube so I'm hoping it'll be decent as it'll take me a while to get through it.

Fairyliz · 27/01/2024 13:32

I’ve got a confession to make. Over the last few years I have bought loads of beauty boxes advent calendars etc, which means I have tried a lot of new products.
There have been a few that I thought were very good for my hair/skin, so I carefully made a note of them so I could buy them when my current products ran out.

I have just realised that I have never actually bought anything off my list as my stash is too big. Eg I recently used an Origins serum which made me glow; but I doubt I will be buying it a time soon as I have about five more serums in my stash!

greengreengrass25 · 27/01/2024 14:19

Yes and the large sizes were so expensive

I am still buying stuff but have recycled some empties. I resisted the calendars so I'm not inundated.

I also bought one of those make up bags which lay flat so I can find what I need

listsandbudgets · 27/01/2024 17:25

I've just spent every penny of my Liberty Beauty Drop credit and loyalty voucher on a bag - meaning that I'm much less likely to be tempted by the next beauty kit to come out because I've already spent the lot Grin

Morning all.

I have had 2 fails and have come on here to confess.

First one is not too shameful. I still haven't found something that will she tame my coarse, damaged hair. My hairdresser recommended a product (wasn't selling - just started using herself), so I went online to buy. I long for manageable hair.

Second one is worse - Liberty email came reminding me that I has a £20 voucher due to expire by end of December. Used it towards an EDT I have been wanting to try when I have plenty of perfume to use up.

Be strong, be strong.

How are you all doing?

Hello. I've not posted on here for a while.

Since I posted about my lapse on 3rd December, I've bought a larger bottle of the hair product mentioned above (K18 mask). It seems to be working for my hair and the small bottle I bought to try has nearly run out.

I've also replaced a finished £2 Sure deodorant- no spares so perfectly within the 'rules'. No other beauty or toiletry items bought. I've also got rid of a lot of things I wasn't ever going to use so the stash is looking a lot more accessible and attractive.

I'm struggling a bit more with my self-imposed Kindle boom buying ban - 3 lapses since Nov. Two 99p books and a normal priced one.

I'm now on 40 day shopping ban (except normal/regular supermarket shop) to try and curb bad habits futher. Still allowed to spend on going out so it's more about cutting waste than saving money.

Baby steps.....

Fraaahnces · 31/01/2024 10:07

I have had a month that can only be described as ratshit. BUT… I have not bought any beauty products! *Bows…. First time every.

listsandbudgets · 31/01/2024 10:23

@Stoic123 Glad you've found something that will work for your hair. Hope you enjoy the kindle books and well done on finishing all your deodrent. Needless to say I've got 1 more roll on and a couple of cans after the one I'm using.

@Fraaahnces Sorry you're month has been so terrible but CONGRATULATIONS on a whole month with no purchases. That's absolutely brilliant your bank account and your storage space will thank you

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with my stash - I keep looking at it planning what I'm going to use next. Last night I thought about how many products I'm using most days other than toothpaste and it's a massive number:

Shampoo
Conditioner
2 different face cleaners morning and evening
shower gel
bar of soap for places i don't like using shower gel
hand cream
hand wash
serum
moisturiser
hair oil (using one from liberty AC at the moment and it's gorgous)
body lotion
perfume
deodorant
under eye cream for my dark circles
night cream
sleep cream - got it in AC determined to use
pillow spray

18 products a day And sometimes I use a few other bits e.g face mask or cuticle oil or some face oil if I'm feeling ambitious or leave in shampoo spray if I'm running late and a strip wash and a quick brush is all I have time for...

And still my stash is huge...

Shocked wish I'd not thought about it that way

Acutally make that 19 forgot to count one of the face washes...

That's quite a lot isn't it...

Tbh I don't think it's overly excessive, it sounds it...being 19, but when you look at it listed it looks like a face and hair care routine. But then again here I am on your thread, so I reckon we think alike. 😃

I have not bought anything since my last post when I went to stock up on Max Factor creme blush. Although I doubt I needed to as the first one I've used daily since getting it and I haven't even made a dent in it. I have been into the stash for toothpaste, even Ds for deodorant and shampoo for his gf when she stayed over.

I did however buy two pairs of jeans though. But I'm counting them as necessary as 1) I have suddenly become quite chunky in the mid area and suspect my new hrt isn't working too well and 2) we have autumn and winter coming up and I am a jeans gal, and this butt isn't getting into my normal jeans (wails). I am rather miffed about it and waiting for an appt and suspect will change. But I have to know I have something I can comfortably fit into in case I don't miraculous get back to the size I was (and have been all my adult life. (wails again).

I am almost down two conditioners that had about 1/4 left of each. I remembered why as I think I look like Wurzle Gummage, so I will just double them up until they are finished.

Still on my never ending bar of hand soap though. 😂. It's definitely smaller but still has a way to go.

I was quite proud of myself as I did actually go into the pharmacy where I find all my discounted bargains. I had to pick up a script so I couldn't avoid it all together. There were a load of marked down items from Christmas, and normally I'd pile up the basket with the bargainous finds. I didn't buy a thing! I was tempted by some Bioderma but I'm not through the stash lot yet, but month ago, that would have been in the basket. I let someone else score that bargain this time 😃

Stoic123 · 31/01/2024 20:47

19 isn't that much when you look at the list. My list would be a similar number or higher. It's higher than normal while I tackle the stash- my skin is glowing!

The bargains/reduced price items are the hardest to resist- but I keep reminding myself that there are going to be plenty of beauty offers in the future. Also, I'll enjoy my new purchases so much more if I use them staright away/they don't just disappear into a big pile.

QueefofSheena · 31/01/2024 23:38

I’m sure my lipsticks are breeding, I have a ton! I got a Mac set of 6 as a Christmas gift so between that, AC and kits etc. I have loads. I really need to thin the stash and pass some on. Adult DS was complaining about blocked pores so he’s getting exfoliating cleansers and the toners that don’t suit my aged skin.

I did manage to finish an Estée Lauder night repair serum after what felt like years.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 01/02/2024 10:38

Well, I made it through January without adding to my stash! I haven't set myself a specific no buy target, I'm just aiming to see how long I can manage without needing to buy anything. It's been an interesting experiment actually, before Christmas I was convinced that I needed to buy conditioner and face cleanser, and yet here I am in February still not quite needing either...

Peridot1 · 01/02/2024 11:15

I made it through January too @SwordBilledHummingbird. Quite proud of myself!

Although today will be the real test for me. My weakness is Caroline Hirons kits and she has one out today. I normally have a look to see what is in the kit with no intention to buy and somehow always end up buying! And they are all full size products so take a bit of time to get through!

My aim for this year is to get through all I have and only buy something I actually run out of and then at the end of the year buy the Liberty advent calendar and a CH kit for Christmas.

@Stoic123 - DH once counted up all the products I use every day and was shocked! I love my skin ritual though in the morning and evening.

FayCarew · 01/02/2024 20:16

Put an intensive conditioner in my shopping basket but put it back on the shelf.
Still only had one lapse this year, a 75p shower gel last month.

Cyclingmummy1 · 01/02/2024 21:41

Do I have to declare two bottles of hand wash? One for the kitchen and one for the downstairs toilet.

mdinbc · 01/02/2024 21:57

Good job to everyone for getting through January, and using up some stashed products.

I'm almost finished a Glow Recipe serum. It's really nice texture and aroma, but would really only know if it works if I used a regular size bottle for about a month. Next up is a small Caudalie serum.

Cyclingmummy1 · 03/02/2024 14:21

I discovered last night that I was on my last bottle/tub of body lotion. Sadly, I lost my mum towards the end of last year. We're still sorting through her belongings so I've been to my dad's today and now have MB, Dove and an unopened bottle of Chanel No5.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your mum.

I hope that every time you spray the no 5 it brings along a wonderful memory of her.

listsandbudgets · 06/02/2024 14:52

@Cyclingmummy1 I am so sorry I've only just seen this. I'm very sorry to hear about your loss Flowers

Last purchase was 2nd November so a bit over three months now and horrified by much I've still got left.

Gave DD something from the Liberty AC so one less thing to use up for me at least.

I'm still struggling through my shower gels. I think because I've got so many I've not yet finished any of them as I keep changing which I use. HOWEVER I've nearly used up the nearly endless supply of Centre Park shampoos and shower gel bottles I've somehow built up - on last 50ml bottle of both of them unless I find any more and I keep finding the things Once they've gone should at least start getting through other things a bit quicker as I've been using the CP stuff every other day.

I was using up a bottle of eye serum from the ordinary, I was using it on my legs and chest, as I found it too greasy for the undereye, but the other day was going to use it , and it had gone off I think, as it had change colour in the bottle and went lumpy.

Fraaahnces · 06/02/2024 15:48

So sorry to hear about your mum @Cyclingmummy1… Hopefully the perfume will bring back lovely memories for you every time you bring your wrists to your nose.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 06/02/2024 19:01

Sorry to hear that @Cyclingmummy1

OchonAgusOchonOh · 06/02/2024 19:08

Bless me Mumsnet for I have sinned.

I'm almost finished the Halo Labo Vitamin C so needed to order a new one. Problem is, the minimum spend for free postage.

I ended up ordering the premium hyaluronic acid essence and lotion to do a comparison, a snail mucin serum (in fairness, I only have 1 full size serum and two tiny trial sizes left so will need it soon) and a propolis toner. I'm nearly finished my current toner and only have one in the stash so maybe not too bad over all?

Cyclingmummy1 · 06/02/2024 20:16

Thank you for your kind thoughts.

Peridot1 · 06/02/2024 21:25

So sorry for your loss @Cyclingmummy1. I have a Christian Dior lipstick that was my mums. Not to be used but just to have. I blame her for my beauty products obsession anyway. It’s nice to have something of hers.

@OchonAgusOchonOh - doesn’t sound too bad really. I think you are absolved!

I bought a couple of travel size hair products last week as I’m going away on Monday. And today I ordered a new purple shampoo as realised my current one is really old.
