I can't do this alone folks. I've got TOO MUCH STUFF... I also have 2 beauty advent calendars

So I've set myself a challenge. Between now and June the 1st 2024 I will not buy any beauty products UNLESS I've run out of all of that particular type. If I've got a tiny sample bottle of shampoo or conditioner I'll use it all up. All those half used bottles of moisturiser, night cream, shower gel and toner and body lotion MUST GO... the mountain of soap must be surmounted.

My only concession is that I will not cancel the Liberty Beauty drop will get a couple of boxes to cheer me up

So if you want to join me make up your own rules and lets cull that stash

@QueefofSheena I am going to try to avoid buying any more perfume for the rest of the year. I've got so many now I'm drowning. I got the Scent with Love kit from Liberty, 4 bottles in the Liberty advent calanader, I already hadat least half a dozen bottles at least before the Scent with Love kit and I haven't even finished opening the M&S which I think has at least 1 more.

I feel like I've got enough to last a decade - it's so tempting though Blush

@EuniceLopril that Harvey Nicols set sounds lovely. How are you getting on have you found a winter favourite yet?

Not tempted here by anything. Yet! I’ve been getting through some things which is good and am replacing from my current stash. I have lots of serums, moisturisers and eye creams but not too many cleansers so suspect I will be buying cleansers but not for a few months yet.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 08/01/2024 14:11

I have made one purchase. My powder brush started shedding and, while I have a couple of other powder brushes, they are too tightly packed for my liking. I do have one I like in my work make-up bag but I would end up with no brush when I need it if I was trying to move it between work bag and bathroom. I tend to do make-up and breakfast in the office to get out as early as possible in the morning and so miss traffic so it is justified. Honest.

I have also been very tempted by a Korean Hyaluronic Acid. However, while I have added it to my basket so I don't forget it, I am waiting until I am on the last of the 4 I have in my stash before ordering 😇

Fraaahnces · 08/01/2024 14:40

@OchonAgusOchonOh - a powder brush is a must! We can’t have you looking like you need a magnifying mirror and a lighthouse light…
Does this count as a purchase? I ordered some pajamas before Christmas. They finally arrived and I received a tinted lip balm thing as a GWP. (It’s fabulous!)
I’m about to start my new diet big-time and the pyjamas are a necessary evil for an impending (but no date yet) hospital trip. *Must buy some slippers too!

listsandbudgets · 08/01/2024 14:49

@Fraaahnces I hereby absolve you of all responsibility for the magically appearing tinted lip balm Smile

@Peridot1 I held of buying cleansers as I was sure there would be some in the advent calendars.

There was a small exfoliating one in the Liberty and I think there may be one in the M&S but even so I think I'm likely to run out before June! On the other hand i'm very glad I held off buying hair oil as Liberty had 2 and there is the Percy Reed oiless oil in the M&S so should be able to wait a while

Exactly. I wouldn't want to scare the local children.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 08/01/2024 15:15

@Fraaahnces Hope the hospital visit is nothing serious.

If hospitals in Australia are anything like here, you will need a lip balm for that. They are ridiculously hot and dry here. If they just turned down the temperature to a reasonable level, they could probably hire a couple of extra doctors or nurses a year.

Peridot1 · 08/01/2024 15:53

@listsandbudgets I didn’t get any advent calendars (see my shiny halo?) but have at least four full size cleansers in my stash plus what is open and in use. I double cleanse and use a different one in the shower too so do get through them.

I think a balding blusher brush is a good reason for a purchase @OchonAgusOchonOh. A hairy face is not a good look.

@Fraaahnces - a freebie definitely doesn’t count!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 08/01/2024 16:24

@Peridot1 menopause is doing its very best to provide the hairy face without my brushes helping.

QueefofSheena · 08/01/2024 18:10

@listsandbudgets I have zero willpower in the face of a perfume bargain. I’m gutted I missed the last Liberty Scent edit

Peridot1 · 09/01/2024 08:57

@OchonAgusOchonOh yep. Same here. The gift that keeps on giving!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 09/01/2024 09:07

@Peridot1 the one plus of the aging process is my eyesight is getting worse so I can't see the deterioration.

listsandbudgets · 09/01/2024 09:11

@Peridot1 I can see your halo from miles away. I really enjoyed opening mine - in fact still enjoying the M&S one.

I think we should discuss hand creams. I have piles of them yet to the best of my recollection I've never gone out and actively bought one. They've always come as part of a set or a GWP or an advent calendar or beauty subscription. I do like using them especially in this cold weather. People do presumably buy them as I'm always seeing them in the shops but who --presumably people who don't fall for kits, GWPs, ACs or subscriptions Grin)

@OchonAgusOchonOh - same here! And I try not to look in the magnifying side of the mirror too often!

@listsandbudgets - I’m glad you enjoyed yours. I’m going to get the Liberty one next year. I’m in their Beauty Drop club to save for it and was planning on getting it this year but have way too much stuff to justify it. So once I have reduced my stash through the year I can buy it guilt free next year.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 09/01/2024 09:23

@listsandbudgets I also have quite a collection of hand creams. I have loads from GWPs and beauty boxes plus a good few as presents. I mentioned to ds1 a few years ago that I like the L'Occitane shea butter one and I now get it for birthday and Christmas. I have however since discovered the best hand cream ever so I need to move him on to this https://burrenperfumery.com/collections/hand-body/products/soothing-cream-for-dry-and-rough-skin

Soothing Cream

A very rich and nourishing healing cream. Especially formulated for use on very dry and rough skin, cracked hands and heels. Soil Association certified organic. This cream is 86.2% organic by weight, excluding water. Handmade in Ireland.

narniabusiness · 09/01/2024 09:25

Hand cream. Yep I’ve never bought one either. Keep one by the kitchen sink, one where you sit in the evening and one by the bed. That way whenever your hands feel dry it’s right there. Then any others use as body cream after the bath or shower. It’s sometimes a bit rich, but most of them seem to be pretty much the same as body cream.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 09/01/2024 09:27

Hello beautiful people!

Re hand creams I have the same issue. Lots of them, hardly ever used. What I don’t like is when they are still sticky and you need to get on with your day they get everywhere. Only use them at night time if and only I manage to remember.

@QueefofSheena I absolutely love a perfume bargain too. Increasingly difficult for me to justify buying more as I have plenty to use. I own a perfume wardrobe, literally and figuratively. And I failed for the perfume ban as I bought myself Burberry brit for her.

QueefofSheena · 09/01/2024 12:29

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel I am addicted to the small bottles, I justify it by telling myself they are cheaper and cute. I managed to snag a bottle of Poets of Berlin on Vinted from the Liberty AC just before my buying ban kicked in on 1st Jan so that’s me sorted for a while 🤞

Peridot1 · 09/01/2024 13:08

I admit I have bought myself some hand creams at various times but definitely not enough to explain the amount I have in my stash! I think they breed. I go through stages of being good at using one before I go to sleep. Need to get back into that habit again.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 09/01/2024 13:37

@Peridot1 if only we could get all the products we like to breed

Fraaahnces · 09/01/2024 16:17

Thanks @OchonAgusOchonOh - The hospital visit is pretty serious and of course I’ve been trying to avoid it for a while. Should know by the end of next week what the plan is. If the outcome is what I expect I will probably be in hospital for 2-3 weeks. (Blah). I have been psychologically preparing myself by writing packing lists. Of course the only thing I need to add to skincare is a tiny tub of Vaseline or a tube of Dermeeze (Slightly lighter Vaseline, so inclined to go with that one.) Will need it to keep moisture in skin overnight. I might have just ordered a small thermal bottle for water and a thermal cup as well. (Mine are all enormous.)

OchonAgusOchonOh · 09/01/2024 16:27

I'm sorry to hear that @Fraaahnces I hope it all goes well and you make a full and quick recovery.

Peridot1 · 09/01/2024 16:28

Echoing @OchonAgusOchonOh @Fraaahnces and hope all goes well.
