In search of the perfect knickers

Is there such a thing?

I’m not the right shape for knickers it would seem. I’m a size 12ish but with a small waist and big bum and thighs (28 inch waist vs 41 inch hip). However I also currently have a bit of a tummy due to a combination of gynae issues and comfort eating. As it stands, all but the biggest of big cotton m&s knickers are swallowed by my bum and then end up all scrunched up in the gusset region and I hate it.

I would like the following:
High waist - to bellybutton or just below. At least high enough not to irritate my c section scar.
Non scratchy seams that don’t cause too much VPL
Some compression/support to the tummy
A wide enough gusset that it doesn’t end up like vulva floss
Decent bum coverage - anything high legged or Brazilian style just becomes a thong on me.

I feel like I’m not asking for a miracle but nothing works!

I’ve had those in the past. Unfortunately the leg seams are glued/taped to make them no VPL meaning that they have very little elastic and I found they chafed.

Wirapa from Amazon. Not glamorous though!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 21/10/2023 09:16

I wear the big molke ones, mainly because of the dinosaur pattern.
They don't seem to scrunch.
And they often have sizes in the sale which might be good in terms of trying them.

I like these -

The lacy bit makes them feel a bit fancy! 😃

WrinklesShminkles · 21/10/2023 09:43

Sloggi pants have a wide gusset and last well (which means they're expensive). Lots of maxi and midi styles, some with tummy control. M&S flexifit were vulva flossers (great description! 😂)

This. I bought some of these after they were recommended previously on here.

They're cotton, wash really well, are soft and SO comfortable. I always reach for them first.

Footle · 21/10/2023 09:59

Innersy, from Amazon. Magically comfortable.

Comethefuckonbridget1 · 21/10/2023 10:02

My fave are from primark, cheap and cheerful 3 pack of seamless mini briefs. They are the PERFECT shape, high waist, seamless, cover my whole bum, super comfy, wash well and don’t break the bank.

Cookie77777 · 21/10/2023 10:05

I only wear Chantelle Soft Stretch, the high waist one. They're one size and sooo soft, fit perfectly. They're not especially hard wearing though. I buy new ones every couple years.

LadyLapsang · 21/10/2023 10:08

Sloggi are so comfortable. I like Tai without any tummy control but they also do control pants which are good to give a sleek line. They wash and last. I prefer the dress size versions (e.g. 12) over the S, M, L fit. John Lewis has a good selection.

LiveLaughLoaf · 21/10/2023 10:09

These Wirapa ones from Amazon. I was really sceptical about buying knickers from there but after years of M&S pants getting smaller on the bum and gusset I took a chance. They are absolutely the most comfy pants I’ve ever worn!

banivani · 21/10/2023 10:24

On my knickers wish list is a wide gusset with a lining that covers the vulva high enough to catch discharge (to be blunt). Most (all) knickers seem to have a lining but too far back. Can anyone say if the recommended brands have that? I can confirm that Sloggi do not, but I don’t have the Double Comfort kind that make a point of the terry lined gusset (but I can’t see how far up the front it goes).

WoollyBat · 21/10/2023 10:40

Uniqlo shorts-style or high-waisted.

Umph · 21/10/2023 11:13

Brilliant, thanks everyone. That’s a few to try!

I was looking at Stripe and Stare earlier but wasn’t sure if they were worth the price.

I have a Molke pair but they came much smaller than I expected and cut my bum in half a bit. I think I need several sizes bigger!

Innersy at Amazon, plain but so comfortable. I bought some after reading recommendations on here and then immediately bought another dozen and binned my M&S ones.

purplemunkey · 21/10/2023 11:34

So like these, no tummy control but fits the rest of your bill. I used to get Sloggi, which are great but expensive. These feel the same to me for far less

I'll second these! Read about them on here and never looked back. I would say I love mine!

shrubgreen · 21/10/2023 11:37

I am evangelising about these ones - thick 100% cotton with stretch, really well made, wide gusset, light control in that you feel "held in" but not squished. High enough to cover C section scar and not rub. I bought 1 pack and then 2 more! Got size XL for my last trimester (ordinarily a 14/16) and fit like a dream.

shrubgreen · 21/10/2023 11:39

Also to say I bought the Next full brief multipack pants at the same time and they're...pants by comparison. Thin cotton, no holding in. Defo prefer the wealurre from Amazon!

Fishandchipsatthebeach · 21/10/2023 11:39

I got the Innersy pants off Amazon after hearing about them on here and they are dreadful, really flimsy and unsupportive and go straight up my bum (I am also wide hips with a small waist)

Stripe and Stare are dreadful too, really flimsy and slide down, wrinkle up under my clothes. Total waste of money

my hunt continues…..

Supportyourlocal · 21/10/2023 11:39

I’d recommend Lounge underwear as they seem to have every shape and size of knicker

Astrid01 · 21/10/2023 11:40

I go up a size in knickers as I found it was the only way to stop them going up my bum. I make sure they have some stretch as well and that seems to work.
Funnily enough I've had those innersy knickers in my amazon wishlist for about a year. Good reviews are making me a big more tempted

ReignBeauDash · 21/10/2023 12:00

Handmade ones all the way from women-owned microbusinesses in the UK.

My fave maker is Mardybum Boutique but they only sell to order via FB, no website. They're made to measure and you can order pretty much any pattern combination you could dream of and specify things like a higher waist or a wider waistband... there's other makers out there too, TCS eco and Crease Free Clothes are a couple of others.
