In search of the perfect knickers

Is there such a thing?

I’m not the right shape for knickers it would seem. I’m a size 12ish but with a small waist and big bum and thighs (28 inch waist vs 41 inch hip). However I also currently have a bit of a tummy due to a combination of gynae issues and comfort eating. As it stands, all but the biggest of big cotton m&s knickers are swallowed by my bum and then end up all scrunched up in the gusset region and I hate it.

I would like the following:
High waist - to bellybutton or just below. At least high enough not to irritate my c section scar.
Non scratchy seams that don’t cause too much VPL
Some compression/support to the tummy
A wide enough gusset that it doesn’t end up like vulva floss
Decent bum coverage - anything high legged or Brazilian style just becomes a thong on me.

I feel like I’m not asking for a miracle but nothing works!

Innersy, from Amazon. Magically comfortable.

Yes. I have these, had them over three years now, they're still in great condition. Very good quality thick cotton, and so comfortable.

I get irritated by leg elastic so those ones with the zigzaggy elastic are torture

I went to Oddballs boxers, the supposed legs act as a large gusset. I've also switched to Step One women's boxers

Not pretty or elegant at all but crucially no leg elastic or lace

agent765 · 21/10/2023 22:32

M&S microfibre Midi and High leg 5-pack both suit me. The gussets aren't Sloggi-wide but the material is just so bloody comfy.

Winterjoy · 21/10/2023 22:40

Uniqlo airism are the most comfortable I've found (forget I'm wearing them!). Not tummy control but zero vpl (even through thin gym leggings) and laser cut so they are truly seamless around the edges - no glue. https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/airism-ultra-seamless-high-rise-briefs-460199.html

When did women start wearing small, uncomfortable knickers? Those Wirapa ones look like the sort of underwear women wore in the fifties. If it was the norm then, why can't it be today? No man would ever wear underpants that rode up or cut his arse in two, or revealed most of his crotch. He just wouldn't. It's tyrannous, the cult of 'glamorous knickers'.

the last lot of pants I got from M and S (I double sized up) and they only cover half my arse cheeks..

I've looked at the recommendations on here - but still feel they might be skimpy

CharlotteRumpling · 21/10/2023 09:12

Wirapa from Amazon. Not glamorous though!

I also love Wirapa, and I have similar measurements as OP. But they are not glam.

Marthawhochanged · 21/10/2023 23:04

Sloggi hi waist shorts are one of my faves.
Has anyone tried the full briefs from Damart? They have some flower designs as well as black or white.

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 21/10/2023 23:09

I've just bought some of these:

My other half has the bloke boxers and I've borrowed a pair for under a dress before and they are comfy. Happy now they have added a ladies range. The full briefs cover well, no moving about.

Another Wirapa wearer here, they are brilliant!

BashfulClam · 21/10/2023 23:13

I am a similar shape. I got trapped after a weekend away by snow so had to buy some knickers as I had an extra night in a hotel and had worn my ‘contingency pants’ already. Tesco multipack pants (also found same in Sainsbury’s) cheap and although they have a strip of faux lace at the front it is soft even after washing. Most comfy and best pants ever and I wasn’t expecting much as it was literally grabbing the first pack I found.

silentpool · 21/10/2023 23:53

Boody full brief - so good. Meet all your criteria.

arejcenencehche3uh9f3 · 22/10/2023 00:14

Another vote for Step One women's bamboo boxers. Although I find them a little too warm in summer so wear M&S giant granny pants.

IMarchToADifferentDrummer · 22/10/2023 05:13

Try going commando! 😆
Or try mens boxers, they do womens ones, too!

nonevernotever · 22/10/2023 06:01

Another vote for mardy pants. I tried them after seeing a recommendation on here and don't wear anything else now.

nonevernotever · 22/10/2023 06:03

Sorry mardybum not mardypants

LunaTheCat · 22/10/2023 06:09

I second Thunderpants.

these from Primark are brilliant - so comfy and wash really well!

Ticketybooboo · 22/10/2023 07:21

Agree with the Innersy. No bum or fanny floss, just really comfortable and sit below the belly button.

Cammac · 22/10/2023 07:45

This thread couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m on the hunt for decent knickers that fit too.

@Sinamin Have you worn the sleep pants under leggings? I prefer a long short under leggings (because knickers never stay put) but I’ve not worn shorts that long. How are they for sizing? I’m tempted to try them so thank you for that.

Im also going to get the Wirarpa from Amazon. Brilliant suggestions. Thank you MN 😊

falalalalal · 22/10/2023 08:20

I'm 65 and bought Wirapa after a recommendation from here. They are hideous - looked lke something my old grandmother would have worn. I donated them to the charity shop.
I buy from British Boxers or Sloggi and like them.

gotomomo · 22/10/2023 08:24

I have some that exactly meets your remit from sainsburys, unfortunately they don't have any in stock now here (tried to buy some yesterday) but definitely look at supermarket ranges, I've had decent ones from asda too

WeRateSquirrels · 22/10/2023 08:29

I also love the Innersy high waisted ones.

I got sent some free Stripe and Stare ones, very flimsy, definitely would not buy.

Not tried Boody for knickers but their PJs are very good quality.

gotomomo · 22/10/2023 08:30

@alnightingale

I was thinking the same.

The tide is turning though, both my DD's bought full sized cotton multipacks when we went shopping (early 20's) I'm sure they have a bit of fancy stuff not for their mums eyes but for everyday they go for comfort

AuntieMarys · 22/10/2023 08:31

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 21/10/2023 09:55

This. I bought some of these after they were recommended previously on here.

They're cotton, wash really well, are soft and SO comfortable. I always reach for them first.

I'm another fan!! I love the high waist boxers.
