Continuing the discussion ...will there be some good discounts?

I'm eyeing up a festive top from M&S and a beauty product for my daughter. Figure if the top doesn't fit properly, it will go back.

PinkArt · 28/10/2023 23:39

Folks who've had their eye on the John Lewis calendar in previous years, what's are my chances of there being some sort of GWP or discount? I don't want to risk it selling out but I hate buying things full price!

GymGym · 28/10/2023 23:51

I’ve been wondering that! Have ended up ordering the JL one for collection next week just in case it sells out

PinkArt · 29/10/2023 00:07

It's all too stressful, @GymGym! I've got a Laithwaites wine one on order as they had 10% off early doors. Wine and a discount was a no brainer.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 29/10/2023 01:28

@PinkArt not sure if there are any GWPs at John Lewis this year 🤔

However this time last year if you spent over £100 in Beauty you got a free Winter Radiance Box worth £190.

I got one & hoping that JL do the same this year as there was some really good stuff in the gwp

I've just watched a number of Cosmetopia's beauty advent videos for this season, and I have to agree with the general feeling about them this year: so far I'm not impressed.

I'm tempted by the M&S calendar but don't actually need anything from M&S. However, there's a jumper dress that has caught my eye. What happens if I don't like the dress? Presume I have to return the calendar too? Might be easier to go in store for a browse....

I had to return my item a couple of years ago, I didn't get one last year, as it didn't fit, I just returned as usual and kept the calendar so I would probably just order it. I always get my calendar online as I don't often see things I like in store or in my size

Lifestooshort71 · 29/10/2023 05:55

I've just returned the clothes I bought last week (bad fit) but have kept the calendar. They pestered me at the till to buy it anyway so reckon they don't really want it back!

FinallyFinalGirl · 29/10/2023 06:45

ACAC2023 · 28/10/2023 22:22

Thank you @FinallyFinalGirl !
The cashmere socks really caught my attention in the Vogue Calendar 🙂. Not sure why they’re not posting until 6 November? Maybe they’re waiting to see how many orders they get? No idea if it will be reduced, but I didn’t want to risk missing out, as I really wanted it.

No bother at all. It's a great little gadget and much quicker than a sheet mask. Meant to be more effective too.

I wonder if the gift is an edible thing and they can't post out too early? The socks look gorgeous...I have a springer though and it wouldn't be long at all until they were covered in dog hair!😬

tryingsomethingnew · 29/10/2023 08:00

You've probably talked about this before.
Sorry!

So I'm now looking at Look fantastic, glossy box or Sephora. Any opinions on these? It's actually for my Teen but anything she doesn't use - comes to me :)

I will look at JL and Marks' now.

tryingsomethingnew · 29/10/2023 08:09

Actually- having a look now, I can't believe John Lewis is £195! That's a lot. I'm also conflicted as some AC are more skincare, and I think I'd like a 50/50 split with makeup. I like the candle addition to JL too. Any advice for what might be right for me?

pinkchampagne1 · 29/10/2023 08:46

My Boots beauty box has just turned up! 😃 Really impressed with how much is inside it. Was really good value for money.
I now have JL, Ok calendar, Fenwicks calendar and beauty box plus the Boots beauty box so I really must resist any future temptation and maybe try to sell a few bits from my stash! 😆

I have gone for John Lewis but managed to get it for £170 as I had a £25 off coupon in my rewards.
I like the variety of skin care, perfume and make up. I am intrigued to try the Portrait of a Lady perfume and the Clarins fragrance thing. I also like the Neom candle and sleep spray.
It was reduced by I think 25% last year for Black Friday

GymGym · 29/10/2023 09:23

If anyone was wanting the Boots winter skincare edit, that’s back in stock. I’m still trying to get the awards box

Cyclingmummy1 · 29/10/2023 09:37

25% off Molton Brown today.

Puravida23 · 29/10/2023 09:51

Wow @pinkchampagne1 you better clear your diary for December you are going to be busy!
I only have OK and LIB which I bought for presents so is already empty I have bought a few boxes though (LIB and Cult beauty). As we move to November I am just thinking which advents would I buy if reduced and I am struggling. The only one I may be tempted by is Selfridges , possibly Harrods and Elle with a great discount. And obviously Vogue but I don’t think it will ever reduce to my budget
What about everyone else are you all done or holding out for any reductions?

BrontëParsonage · 29/10/2023 10:43

Has anyone spotted any discounts on the MAC AC? I bought it for my teen last year, as a joint Christmas and birthday gift (born December 27th). It has turned out to be brilliant value - and I scored a couple of unwanted lipsticks, so a win-win all round!

Dee1224 · 29/10/2023 10:50

@hby9628 - I bought two tops and the a/c in store. I didn’t try the tops on as I figured they’d be ok. Turns out I was wrong, so I returned them the next day. I’d intended to do an exchange, but DH was waiting for me impatiently, so I got a refund instead.

The assistant was very snippy and made a snide comment about how I had got the calendar. I had been feeling a bit guilty, but that annoyed me, so I said I would have brought that back too if it hadn’t been non-returnable! (I was being honest - I wish I hadn’t bought the calendar now - too many DOD!)

shinny · 29/10/2023 10:52

So far I have bought 2 cake ones as gifts and a running one for me. I’m holding out for discounts as got Selfridges last year for £110! Also had Liberty as a gift and it was wonderful opening them up each morning. I keep looking at LF and Harrods but can’t decide. I want a discount but maybe I’m being ridiculous. DH said get both now to avoid disappointment but I think the missing out of a bargain would be an even bigger disappointment!

hby9628 · 29/10/2023 11:01

@Dee1224 I didn't realise the calendar was non returnable. Absolutely not your problem if they have that rule in place x

Stokey · 29/10/2023 11:07

@pinkchampagne1 Portrait of a Lady is my favourite perfume. Let me know if you hate it and I'll swap it with you for something else.

Dee1224 · 29/10/2023 11:10

Thanks @hby9628 - I was a bit upset tbh x

I am really intrigued to try it as it is very expensive and you never get testers for it.
Good to hear you love it. Will let you know if it isn’t for me. 😊
