Thanks for the new thread. So far I’ve bought cake for DB, JellyBelly for DD & treats for DCat, but nothing for me. Thinking about M & S…

Dailymash · 10/10/2023 20:13

So this will be my sixth year of getting a beauty advent calendar- have had the M&S one a few times, tried ASOS when I forgot to buy the M&S one and it sold out. Then last year I upped my game and got the JL one. It was by far the best one I’ve had! I’m a bit underwhelmed with this year though as it is a bit too similar to last year’s offering.

If I do decide to get JL I’ll wait a little longer for either a discount or a GWP offer like last year. The winter beauty box swung it for me last year so hopefully they’ll offer something similar!

JSMill · 10/10/2023 20:44

I'm looking for recommendations for a 15 year old girl.

greengreengrass25 · 10/10/2023 20:56

I've bought the M&S one before but I find I can't use all the stuff up alot of the time

HollyGolightly4 · 10/10/2023 21:28

I still really, really, really want the vogue one, but it just seems so expensive. I know cost to value is good thanks to a previous poster's incredible spreadsheet, but I'm not normally one to spend a lot on myself.

Would I be better with boots as they have a complete skincare regime in them?!

The boots premium one appears to have sold out too!

Emmmmz9 · 10/10/2023 21:31

@JSMill me too! Can’t find anything she appropriate at the moment that’s a good mix of products

Peridot1 · 10/10/2023 21:50

Thanks for the new thread @Stoic123.

Love all the discussions. Was tempted by the OK one purely for the KS moisturiser but remembered I have at least four unopened moisturiser's in my stash!

I think I'll stick with M&S as I will use most of it I think. Certainly enough to justify it.

Stokey · 10/10/2023 22:08

Thanks for the new thread @Stoic123 . I haven't got a beauty one yet and not sure if I will as have loads of products still to use from last year and Liberty's last GWP. But am going to stick around and see if any discounts tempt me.

MidnightMeltdown · 10/10/2023 22:10

Thanks for new thread!

I have Harrods, Space NK and Selfridges. Really happy with all of them. I think that Space NK and Selfridges are particularly good this year. Space NK was 15% off which made it marginally more justifiable... Blush

I sold the AB cream from by Space NK calendar and bought the Vilhelm perfume from the Liberty calendar to replace it. This has effectively eliminated any temptation that I may have had to purchase Liberty.

I'm still tempted by the Vogue one though 🙈. I wish it would hurry up and sell out!

AprilLady · 10/10/2023 17:58

Thanks for the new thread @Stoic123 I think it’s likely there will (eventually) be discounts on most, as nothing except the Harrods calendar had actually sold out yet. But we may have to wait until well into November for that to happen.

For those interested in something a little different - the Niche Advent calendar can be stacked with their current GWP. Not bad value if you fancy the contents. Taxes are included in the price and shipping is free, so no extra costs for ordering from Europe. Still quite pricey though at £250.

Selfridges seems to have sold out. I think that they've restocked it a few times though so they may get more. It seems very early to be out of stock of advent calendars!

HurricaneLife · 10/10/2023 22:19

I only ever have one but in the last few years I’ve had John Lewis, Liberty, Space NK and Cult Beauty.

I’m just not excited by any this year and have tons of unused products. Most are very samey and I might skip getting one even though I love them. The fact I can’t decide because all of them have things I won’t use is argument enough at not getting one.

Squishmymallow · 10/10/2023 22:47

@MidnightMeltdown very jealous that you got a discount on space nk!
I think I’ve finally decided I want to buy it but knowing my luck they’ll offer a gwp or discount the day after I order so that’s what’s holding me back 🤣🤣

MidnightMeltdown · 10/10/2023 23:25

I was very surprised that they sent it to me tbh @Squishmymallow

I bought their advent calendar (at a good discount) last November and haven't shopped there since! I think that they sent the discount to people who bought last years calendar though.

It's really good this year, lots of drawers with multiple products. I'm surprised that it hasn't sold out. I guess that everyone is hanging on hoping for a discount!

pointlesslady · 11/10/2023 05:22

Just beware all the new products in those calendars can trigger skin problems, I got damaged skin barrier after the M&S advent last Christmas. Expensive brands don't always have good ingredients.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/10/2023 06:06

I'm so tempted by the Jo Loves calendar - it's £365 but I think (if I'm reading the contents right) that it includes a voucher for 100ml of any perfume

I love ALL her perfumes!

Is everyone else reading this too under contents - there's no reviews and she's now such a small company since she sold Jo Malone to Lauder

SleepyFergus · 11/10/2023 06:07

I'm getting the Look Fantastic one and the Boots one for my daughters. This is on the basis that there are def known items they are both desperate for in them (sol de janeiro, drunk elephant, mac, glow recipe etc) , plus they can swap items between them and I will also get the left overs that they don't want. So win, win, win!

I used a £10 discount on the LK one (there seem to be loads of influencers offering these) and I had just enough Advantage pop into to get the Boots one

I used to get the M&S one for myself for years, and discovered some new brands that I've loved and gone on to buy, but it seems very samey the last couple of years so ditched it.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/10/2023 06:26

I bought the Jo Loves one Grin (as my Christmas present/wedding anniversary present as we're actually over in west London one of the days over Christmas so I can go to the shop and buy my 100ml of fragrance from the voucher)

I had 2 fragrances last time (pink something and the red cedar shards one which is really like amber/lavender from her original company)

My sister has also bought me the Arran aromatics one

Emmmmz9 · 11/10/2023 06:34

@SleepyFergus do you mind me asking how old your daughters are please? And is it the Boots premium beauty one you’ve bought? Would really my decision making - so many out there!

I had the Jo Loves calendar last year and you're right, it includes a voucher in drawer 25 which you can use for 100ml of any fragrance. I ordered the fragrance online and it arrived really quickly.

Dee1224 · 11/10/2023 07:17

Thanks for the new thread @Stoic123 . I am still holding out, although I almost bought the Clarins calendar with a 10% newbie discount, plus a free gift and samples. I thought it was a pretty good deal, but I am trying to practise restraint!

Dee1224 · 11/10/2023 07:18

I will probably get the M&S one when it comes out.

SleepyFergus · 11/10/2023 07:21

No probs! My eldest is 14 (Look Fantastic) and my youngest is 11 (Boots)

I do feel my youngest is a bit young for the boots one (the £99 one) but she's recently become really interested in skincare and brands, so to get this advent calendar will be Mecca for her. Plus I know there will be a few items that she won't be that bothered in so will come my way.

I think skincare has piqued her interest because of her big sister, ie. If she didn't have an older sibling I think we would be a year/2 years off this sudden need and want for items! My eldest is great at skincare, follows a sensible regime using fairly mid range items. I tell her it will pay dividends in the long run!

SwordBilledHummingbird · 11/10/2023 07:23

I still haven't decided! Considering Diptique but it's a lot of money.

BaconAndAvocado · 11/10/2023 07:33

Thanks for new thread!

DD15 is going to use what's left of her August birthday money for an AC but she's still undecided.

I have Next, Look Fantastic, MacMillan and plan on getting the M and S so we've agreed there will be some swapping going on!

It is, but if that's the one you want nothing will compare! I'm thinking of getting both Elle & F&M, but then I wonder if I should get Diptyque or Jo Loves instead as it's about the same price... I still haven't decided either, but I am a lot closer to a decision at least!
