@HollyGolightly4 if you are after Boots skincare they also do a 'showstopper' set nearer Christmas with a lot of full sized skincare items. I can't remember how much it was last year but it was a huge saving on the full price.

Puravida23 · 11/10/2023 08:25

I have bought OK for me and succumbed to the TikTok bargain LIB on Saturday but will not use as an advent but breakup for Xmas presents (with anything left over for me). I think that is me done unless there are some mega reductions .
May succumb to M&S but not really feeling it this year (but that probably won’t stop me buying it!)

Doubleraspberry · 11/10/2023 09:52

I am also still pondering Diptyque. It's just so much money.

If not that, then it'll be no advent calendar for me this year.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/10/2023 12:05

Thanks 😊 Growlybear

can't wait to go back to the shop again as it's so beautifully decorated for Christmas

PomRuns · 11/10/2023 12:12

Thread 3 - thank you. Still undecided.
Will there be discounts…

MidnightMeltdown · 11/10/2023 12:31

I watched a JL unboxing yesterday and I reckon that will end up discounted. Probably also CB and LF. Possibly Harrods too, although they released early this year, so may have better stock control.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Sephora. It's available to buy, but they aren't shipping until the end of the month, which is too late imo. Lots of people like to see an unboxing before making a decision.

@Emmmmz9 did you look into pretty little thing for your daughter? My wee girls are the age for barbie and paw patrol but my nieces love the look of PLT one and I think it does have a good balance for teens.

also what on earth is going on these days one of my nieces is 9 and she is obsessed with drunk elephant and brands and I am going you are 9 how do you even know of such things! X

Emmmmz9 · 11/10/2023 12:44

@Twinsandsome yes, watched an unboxing on You tube and looks to be a good mix of products. Price affordable too. A lot of the other calendars seem too old at the moment.
I now how you feel! My youngest daughter is 13 and her friend wants Charlotte Tilbury!!

Pinenu · 11/10/2023 13:54

There seems to be a lot more interest from teens this year with the PR (influencers) to match.

I wonder if it’ll change how companies approach the ACs next year, perhaps more products for the younger market and maybe even lower prices?

MidnightMeltdown · 11/10/2023 14:02

Anyone ever tried Stylevanna?

It's 22% off with code INF10KBEAUTY

Brings to down to £132.59

Stokey · 11/10/2023 14:50

@Twinsandsome the Drunk Elephant thing is so weird. It costs the earth, has quite a few products that are way too harsh for young skin, yet they're all obsessed by it.

I think I'm going to look for sets for the Dds as no one calendar seems to cover it.

Emmmmz9 · 11/10/2023 15:02

Do Zalando do a calendar in the UK?

Twinsandsome · 11/10/2023 15:12

Excatly @Stokey i walked in and my 9 year old niece was using drunk elephant poly peptide cream I near had a fit!

maybe look at the byoma sets on cult etc they have wee starter kits for £14 and it’s another brand fashionable with teens etc. then maybe a beauty bay box and fill it into an old calendar x

MidnightMeltdown · 11/10/2023 15:48

That's insane @Twinsandsome

I had no interest in skincare when I was 18, let alone 9! At 9 I was still playing with My Little Pony 😂

I didn't start buying moisturiser until I was 25! And then it would have been the cheapest one I could find in Superdrug. It blows my mind that people are now spending hundreds on beauty calendars for teenagers.

I blame TikTok and social media. It's sad that they are in such a hurry to grow up these days.

applecatchers36 · 11/10/2023 15:50

MidnightMeltdown totally agree

I didn't start using moisturiser regularly until I was 50 and used to just wash my face with soap in the shower unless I was removing make-up.

I'm making up for it now though...

Puravida23 · 11/10/2023 16:01

I think it’s great that kids are more aware of looking after their skin at a younger age but agree all these expensive brands and possibly strong ingredients which are not needed and could damage the skin barrier are insane. The key message at this age/any age is sun screen . It is my big regret from my youth that I didn’t use it enough
Luckily my kids are adult now and are not easily influenced so looks like I got off lightly

I hope not - chances are that would mean a lot more samples and travel sizes.

I agree with the rest of you, luxury beauty calendars really aren't aimed at teenagers. They might want one, but it doesn't mean they need to get one.

LesLavandes · 11/10/2023 16:47

What is the name of the food advent calendar that has been talked about on here please? It's about £39

Peridot1 · 11/10/2023 16:58

I think Drunk Elephant might be popular because of the packaging. It looks quite ‘young’ to me.

@OchonAgusOchonOh - I started way earlier! My mum was always into make up and skin care. Was an Avon lady in the early 70s in Dublin. When I was 13 she brought me into Clearys and bought me cleanser, toner and moisturiser. She loved a good GWP! She would be all over beauty advent calendars if she was still here!

@LesLavandes - it’s Degustabox

LesLavandes · 11/10/2023 17:08

Thanks!

AprilLady · 11/10/2023 17:37

I was also late to get into skin care. I don’t think my DM has used a moisturiser in her entire life, let alone a serum or any kind of anti/ aging product.

My DDs are much older teens, have simple skin care routines and use minimal make up. They tease me about my stash and are pretty unfussed about brands. For a couple of years when she was around 12/13 DD1 had the Soap and Glory calendar, which I did think was appropriate at the time - bath and body stuff as well as skincare, which she enjoyed.

On the plus side, the bit of make up DD1 does do is usually the flicky eye thing, so black eyeliners don’t go to waste in our house.

AprilLady · 11/10/2023 17:42

@MidnightMeltdown Stylevanna looks interesting, but I know very little about K-beauty brands so it’s hard to know whether the calendar is worthwhile. Looking at prices of individual items, I expect the calendar value relative to price is rather lower than for many of the U.K. multi-brand calendars too.

However, at least there is no overlap of products with any of the other calendars, and it would give the opportunity to try quite a few K-beauty brands.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 11/10/2023 17:57

@Peridot1 You were dead posh then so you were.
