I think Drunk Elephant might be popular because of the packaging. It looks quite ‘young’ to me.

@OchonAgusOchonOh - I started way earlier! My mum was always into make up and skin care. Was an Avon lady in the early 70s in Dublin. When I was 13 she brought me into Clearys and bought me cleanser, toner and moisturiser. She loved a good GWP! She would be all over beauty advent calendars if she was still here!

@LesLavandes - it’s Degustabox

One of the most impressive feats I have ever witnessed was a talk by “the Avon lady” where she applied a whole face of makeup, while talking to us, without a mirror. WITHOUT A MIRROR!!!

I was 14 when a family friend gave me a moisturiser and foundation for Christmas, and that was the start of my life-long skincare routine. I’d read in Jackie magazine that “every night you go to bed without taking off your makeup adds another week to the age of your face”. (Later read that Jackie staff made up most of their advice in their desperate need to fill column inches.)

But it was just cleanse, tone, moisturise until my 40s when I added a serum, and it was my 50s when I really went mad with the exfoliants and serums and masks.

MidnightMeltdown · 11/10/2023 17:58

@AprilLady Yes I'm tempted to give it a try as an 'introduction' to K beauty (although I can't really justify another calendar!).

I watched a couple of YouTube unboxings, and from what I understand, these are some of the most popular products/brands. I particularly like the fact that it has 3 different SPF 50 sunscreens in it as I have 3 holidays booked for next year (more than usual as I haven't travelled much over the past few years) and they will be handy! Of course I could just buy the sunscreen - but that would be way less fun! 😂

ajandjjmum · 11/10/2023 17:59

Parents of young teens - what are your thoughts about the Soap and Glory advent calendar for a 12 year old? We are visiting relatives in Australia, and I thought this might be a nice gift for our niece when we arrive - although I really don't want to get anything inappropriately 'teenage' if you know what I mean!!

Hi,

Stylevana looks interesting, but the reviews on Trustpilot are poor.

The good reviews are mostly from one-time posters, which I never trust, (to be fair, some of the poor reviews are also from one-time reviewers).

Has anyone on here ordered from Stylevana? I would be interested in feedback on their service.

Re: Japanese and Korean skincare - I love Japanese make up and skincare, although sadly it’s been years since I have been able to go to Japan and buy it. My only experience of Korean skincare was a toner in an advent calendar that I found a bit too ‘tingly’, but I would love to try more.

Dee1224 · 11/10/2023 18:10

@MidnightMeltdown Japanese sunscreen is excellent- I strongly suspect that Korean versions are too!

If you do order, please feedback your experience. Advice from reviewers on Trustpilot is to pay via PayPal in case of issues.

Branster · 11/10/2023 18:18

The thread on beauty hoarding has quite a few contributors who order from Styvetlana.
I don't know how to link it on here, but that would be a good place to start.

Branster · 11/10/2023 18:19

Name of thread starts with: Do you get the urge to splurge?

Dee1224 · 11/10/2023 18:51

Thanks @Branster

I am being really restrained so fat and only have the Liberty as I had BD credit.
I may be swayed with a discounted me for January....

PomRuns · 11/10/2023 19:01

I’ve just had another look at Sephora - it’s pretty good, I’ll update my spreadsheet which is nowhere as good the ones from @AprilLady or @OchonAgusOchonOh

capabilityfrowns · 11/10/2023 19:06

Does anyone know anything about the M&S one ?

@Dee1224 I recently ordered some Korean and Japanese skincare from a site called Skin Cupid. It’s not as cheap as Stylevana but it’s UK based so delivery only took a couple of days. They have a good range and they included samples with the delivery too.

There are quite a few Asian beauty brands available via Sephora.co.uk too, though again pricier than Stylevana.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 11/10/2023 19:25

I've had the Liberty one since it launched I think and even though I've got £140 BD credit, I've not ordered it. Im hankering after space NK but I really want a discount code Grin dont we all!

I'd like one that has a decent mix of makeup and skincare.
Liberty is always skincare heavy and I don't like that expensive moisturiser they put in (Augustus bader?) it's just like Nivea 😂
Any others people can recommend for a mix of makeup/skincare?

SoloCat · 11/10/2023 19:52

I’ve bought Space NK, Harrods and Harrods perfume. I am tempted by Jo Malone, Dyptique, Ok and LIB.

I’ve got to restrain myself, although I did purchase a Jo Loves candle and had a couple of samples of perfume. Lovely scents, but not much longevity..so may pass on the Jo Loves.. phew 😮‍💨

I spend more time thinking about advents than I do on Christmas pressies for everyone else 😳

Stokey · 11/10/2023 19:54

@Dee1224 I think Cosmetopia is a fan of Stylevana or has been in the past so may be worth checking out her videos.

I've had a couple of Erborian products which I rated.

SoloCat · 11/10/2023 19:59

Oh no…forgot I liked Selfridges too, let’s hope they all sell out and I don’t have to bear the weight of all that FOMO! 😁

Dee1224 · 11/10/2023 20:04

Thanks @Stokey and @CorneliaStreet

MidnightMeltdown · 11/10/2023 20:10

@Dee1224 I decided to order as it seems like a good deal for £130ish, I'm really keen to try out the products - and if I'm going buy sunscreen anyway, it would be rude not to have the other products with it. Definitely no more advents for me this year now!

From what I understand, Stylevana can take a long time to deliver as they sell products that they don't actually have in stock. It's waiting for the items to be shipped that can take a long time, rather than shipping itself. The calendar says 'usually shipped within 24 hours' - so we shall see! I paid with PayPal so will claim back through them if there's an issue.

Dee1224 · 11/10/2023 20:12

That’s interesting @MidnightMeltdown - I would be very grateful if you would report back as their calendar and other products look good.

MidnightMeltdown · 11/10/2023 20:14

@Dee1224 yes, I'll let you know how it goes

I found this video quite informative on the products in the calendar:

Thanks @MidnightMeltdown

@OchonAgusOchonOh - I’m very posh! Not! From a definitely non posh area on the north side!

I was tempted by the Stylevana calendar too. I’m getting into Japanese and Korean skincare a bit. A poster on the beauty hoarders thread - Fraaahnces is very knowledgeable. I ordered a few spfs to try and quite like them so far.

Stylevana doesn't ship to Ireland, although I'm not sure if you're in Ireland or UK?

I definitely liked the look of it.
