I'm 48, size 12/14, 5 foot 6 - what good, flattering stuff should I get from Uniqlo?

The bags... can they hang a decent length cross body or do they always have to cut across the chest?

Talisin · 11/10/2023 21:53

The bags have an adjustable strap so can be pretty much whatever length you want, @Icedlatteplease

Icedlatteplease · 11/10/2023 21:54

@Kaill at only 30 odd quid I wasn't expecting leather though

@CharlotteRumpling I'm thinking I may have to pick up the boots.... it's a choice between that or replacing my rather expensive 13 year old DMs, I'm just not sure I can justify the extra £130 for the DMs (I'd want the exact same pair i had previously)

The bags are really adjustable, I can get mine down to hip length (I'm 5'5") or tight enough to wear around the waist as a bumbag

Oh!! That's better than I thought!!! I know I wouldnt wear it round my chest, it always looked a little short

EfficientlyDecluttering · 12/10/2023 07:30

Yes it’s pretty versatile, the bumbag round the waist might not work if you are very slim but I am not, I’ve only worn it like that once though, as an experiment.

beguilingeyes · 12/10/2023 10:45

Does the bag have any internal pockets?

TreesAtSea · 12/10/2023 11:59

Does the bag have any internal pockets?

Yes, two quite large ones which make up one side of the bag inside, if that makes sense. No zips on the pockets.

VelvetVoice · 13/10/2023 15:52

I washed but didn’t wear it again so not sure about shrinkage but it still looks good

I felt great in it and got complimented, I had bare legs and ankle stile militar boots from clarks which also are fab

Dee1224 · 13/10/2023 16:09

Thanks @VelvetVoice - when you wear it again, please feedback, if you don’t mind.

Did you hand wash it or put it in the washing machine?

WhereAreWeNow · 13/10/2023 17:02

I got the Comptoir des Cottoniers wide trousers and I love them. V flattering. They might be a bit too warm right now but they'll be perfect for work in the winter. I got the grey ones. Wondering about getting another colour too.

BarnacleBeasley · 13/10/2023 17:05

@WhereAreWeNow I got the grey ones, and liked them so much I got the beige ones too - also really nice. I haven't washed them yet, though, and am going to do so very carefully! Not too warm in Scotland, either, so am actually wearing them right now.

VelvetVoice · 13/10/2023 20:29

I just put in the washing machine with other clothes

Kaill · 13/10/2023 21:09

The White Mountaineering unisex collection has just dropped on Uniqlo. You’d normally pay several hundred pounds for a WM jacket, so £40 for a hoody and £80 for a jacket is a bargain.

They’re supposed to be unisex but the sizing is men’s, so you need to buy one size smaller than your normal Uniqlo size. And they’re massive so you may want to size down again to get a good fit. I’m a UK 14 Medium, which means I’d normally wear size L at Uniqlo. But in the WM clothing I sized down to M because it’s men’s sizes, then sized down again to S because they’re huge.

Icedlatteplease · 13/10/2023 21:32

They've also got mire bits added to their sale section

(Which I can now tell you about having got in first😈😉😊)

Dee1224 · 13/10/2023 23:24

Thanks @VelvetVoice

I went to Uniqlo yesterday to fiddle with the Comptoir des Cotoniers stuff. I'm not in the market for trousers but I did like the stripy jumpers. They are not too thick but seem warm- and hand-wash only. The texture has a nice pattern to it, a bit like a waffle when you look at it up close. I think it seems like a good deal at £35. It's slightly cropped but not terribly so - it sits just above my hip but I have a long torso

WhereAreWeNow · 14/10/2023 11:17

I got that jumper too @Pigtailsandall
I thought it was really good value for a nice design and pure wool.

Tshirtsunyan · 14/10/2023 11:21

Tights! Wooly & sparkly together ! ( in winter I am a fan of dressing like a giant, comfy toddler 😀

The Comptoir stuff is amazing, great quality and nice fit. I got the stripy jumper and it does bobble a bit and needs hand washing, but it’s lovely. The trousers feel much more expensive than they are.

Also worth having a look at the Uniqlo C collection, by Claire Waight Keller who used to design for Gucci, Chloe and Givenchy. The cut and length of the items is perfect.

Based on my nightmare experience today nothing that you think you might want to return! Their customer service for online returns is appalling and I am looking at being £147 down because they don't recognise their own order numbers on the return portal 😩

CharlotteRumpling · 14/10/2023 21:07

Uniqlo returns are terrible, I agree. I always buy in store. Which is not possible for most people.

WhereAreWeNow · 15/10/2023 08:20

The returns is annoying (you can't return online orders in store and you have to pay to return) but I've never had a problem returning online. It's always recognised the order number. @Puppylucky are you cutting and pasting the order number directly from the confirmation email or the orders info in your online account?

Kaill · 15/10/2023 09:28

I agree. Returns are stupidly expensive. And if you have say two orders placed separately, you can’t send them back in one parcel, you have to pay twice. The price of sending stuff back encourages me to place a massive order and pay one return charge. Normally I’d place a few smaller orders.
