I'm 48, size 12/14, 5 foot 6 - what good, flattering stuff should I get from Uniqlo?

Merino jumpers/cardigans; the little half-moon bag in a nice colour; jeans. Are you going to one or going online?

olderbutwiser · 03/10/2023 15:33

O and an ultralight down coat of some sort. Mine's pretty vintage now, been washed multiple times and it's still fab.

pandora206 · 03/10/2023 15:34

Heattech tops - they're surprisingly flattering as staples and very warm.

CharlotteRumpling · 03/10/2023 15:34

They have some nice cord jackets and trousers. Also for pure usefulness, not style: heat tech tops.

I also like the blocktech raincoats.

beguilingeyes · 03/10/2023 15:51

Their jeggings are the best. Very stretchy and soft as velvet.

LucyLoopyLu · 03/10/2023 15:56

I love their knitwear.

100% lambswool jumper - I have this in 2 colours
Ultra fine merino knit cardigan - I've just got one in navy and I love it so much

X

Agree with all of the above but also their tshirts are good quality. Do have a look at their mens range too, a lot of it is unisex (male and female models) and good if you have a longer body or arms.

Missmillymollymandy · 03/10/2023 16:30

Knitwear, especially cashmere and merino.

The Heat Tech base layers are excellent.
The ultra light down jackets and gilets are very warm and come with little compression sacks so they can be popped into a handbag or rucksack.

I bought the half moon bag this summer after dd recommended. Ultra light and compact but holds all my essentials. Perfect for days out and everything is easy to fund as contents are all visible when you unzip. Not sure if the winter version will be as stretchy ( made of corduroy ) but lovely colours.

The designer collaborations are also worth a look. The best pieces sell out quickly.

tintinandhisdogsnowy · 03/10/2023 16:37

The ultra light down gilets as mentioned by a pp. I have size 8 feet so I love their mens socks. They're comfortable, come in lots of colours and have good leg length. They're good to wear with boots.

LucyLoopyLu · 03/10/2023 16:38

@pyewatchet
Oh yes another vote for tshirts

TreesAtSea · 03/10/2023 17:44

The half moon bag is the Round Mini Shoulder Bag, available in either polyester or corduroy and in various colours. It's been very popular the last couple of years. There's now a larger faux leather version, the Round Shoulder Bag.

ShanghaiDiva · 03/10/2023 17:48

Cashmere jumpers
heat tech

gaggiagirl · 03/10/2023 17:50

I love the mini corduroy bags really soft and practical. Their merino jumpers or cardigans are great and heat tech base layers are excellent I wear one daily this time of year.

Yoyoyo1 · 03/10/2023 18:30

Great ideas here, thank you!

I love their cotton button-down shirts. They dry so they don't need ironing which is a huge win for me. I also like the colourful socks

I'm less keen on the knitwear, but the men's knits seem to last better - I'd buy from the men's section next time.

WhereAreWeNow · 03/10/2023 21:16

Heat tech tops
Cotton mid rise knickers
Merino jumpers
Seamless down coats
High waist pleated trousers
Knitted dresses

CharlotteRumpling · 03/10/2023 21:16

Oh yes, I have a similar dress from last year in cotton, and it is very flattering and comfy. Very cool in the summer too.

Are you not to suppose to wash these as the feathers clump up? I've had mine for more than a year without it being washed before. I do sometimes have to shake it about as it clumps over time, or if squashed in a bag.

TheresaBouvey · 03/10/2023 22:37

I’ve washed the down coat, then put it in dryer on low heat and added two tennis balls to fluff up the fluff

works magic

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 04/10/2023 00:11

Blocktech raincoats, heat tech base layers (just got a ribbed turtleneck that is lovely), DH loves their fine cardies.
I also just bought two cheap & cheerful "WASHABLE KNIT RIBBED CARDIGAN" for me, not chunky and a bit cropped but not too short. I love a cardi over dresses or with a skirt.
Teenage DS got some "smart" jogging bottoms (woven) that he really likes and they look good.

Apologies for asking a question within another thread but how is their sizing? I’m a 12/14. Would you go for a medium or large in sweatshirts and hoodies?

There is a size profiling tool on the website. When you choose a garment and click on it you input your statistics and fit preference. It then suggests the size that most customers were happy with.
