Best things to buy in Uniqlo?

I'm 48, size 12/14, 5 foot 6 - what good, flattering stuff should I get from Uniqlo?

I've just put in an order for a load of this seasons stuff including the wide leg flannel and cord trousers. I'd been waiting until I had the money and all the stuff I wanted was in stock

I haven't been excited by anything in the shops for years and mostly have been wearing the same wardrobe of clothes. Ive never seen much that has beaten what i have. This year's uniqlo stuff really got me excited.

in the summer i bought some dresses (sale), their linen summer dress , trench (also sale) and some wonderful gym leggings. They've all been fab.

@Colourfulponderings they specifically market the merino as machine-washable. The lambswool and cashmere care labels are both hand-wash.

However, in my experience if you have a decent wool cycle on your machine then everything is machine-washable! The key is drying it flat.

Sadly I've found it more hit and miss. I machine wash everything on a wool cycle, but earlier this year I bought a men's wool jumper. Washed exactly the same as everything else, but it shrank horribly and is now far too small to wear

Quebeccles · 05/10/2023 12:47

I blame this thread for making me go into the big Oxford St branch just now and buying 4 things 😅

RampantIvy · 05/10/2023 12:51

I wish they had shops outside of London. I really don't like buying clothes online. My first priority when in London in the summer was to go to the Oxford Street shop.

BarnacleBeasley · 05/10/2023 13:10

I love going in the actual shops. When I was in London more I used to buy jeans there cos they would alter them for free on the same day!

Where are you based? There is a massive store in Manchester.

Oh no, what rotten luck. Was it lambswool? Did it felt?

DuploTrain · 05/10/2023 13:32

I absolutely love uniqlo.

High rise ultra stretch leggings are my winter staple (they’re actually jeggings).

Heattech long sleeve tops. The normal ones are lovely and thin for under layers but too thin for me to wear as a top on it’s own.

The “extra warm” ones are good to wear as a long sleeved top.

However I’ve also had a lambswool jumper than shrunk badly even though I always wash at 30 degrees.

And you do have to pay postage to return things.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 05/10/2023 14:14

30 degrees is too warm for lambswool, sadly, and a standard 30 degree cycle will agitate the knitwear. The wool cycle on my Bosch is 20 degrees.

TreesAtSea · 05/10/2023 14:29

@RampantIvy They do have stores elsewhere, just sadly not enough...

WithIcePlease · 05/10/2023 14:29

There's one in Oxford that I made the effort to visit for sizing of a couple of things. The service was truly dreadful. Frankly rude and blank faced. It's really put me off buying anything else from them tbh

TomAllenWife · 05/10/2023 14:37

I can't find the new colour corduroy half moon bags online ☹️ looking for the burgundy one

I've got some lovely pieces from Uniqlo over the years, some I've had for 7+ years that still get comments

But I haven't found anything I like for the last few seasons

LucyLoopyLu · 05/10/2023 14:40

Agree with the previous comments. The lambswool jumpers say hand wash and best to actually hand wash.

I did one of mine on 20 degrees wool cycle and it still shrank a bit. Still fine to wear but the fit isn't the same now

Reading with interest. I wear a lot of knitwear and really love Uniqlo's merino. I don't rate their cashmere and don't bother with their lambswool as I don't hand-wash anything if I can help it. You can't really complain about lambswool shrinking on a 30 degree cycle when the label says handwash only!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 05/10/2023 14:51

I buy loads of Uniqlo stuff. I'm basically academic goth so I like that their stuff is plain and pretty much everything comes in black. I'm a 12 and mostly just choose M. Occasionally I'll go S for tops. I live in their cardigans and the supima cotton t-shirts are great. Got some that are probably close to a decade old and they're still bright and fresh looking. DH likes it too, mostly the t-shirt selection.

Zhampagne · 05/10/2023 14:52

I love Uniqlo but my nearest store is miles away and online can be hit and miss with sizing. I have also noticed that M&S have started to encroach on some of the items which used to be Uniqlo USPs, especially the 'heatgen' thermals which are very similar to HeatTech.

I think M&S's knitwear might actually be better than Uniqlo these days, not least because their merino, lambswool AND cashmere are washable at 40 degrees!

sazza42 · 05/10/2023 14:56

I have this dress as well - love it! Really flattering & you can wear it with a base layer & tights in the winter as well as a summer dress.

Jakadaal · 05/10/2023 15:00

As said the merino jumpers and also the ultra light compact range is great. The gilets are good under coats and cardigans to add warmth.

It didn’t say hand wash and I didn’t complain!
Just letting people know that the jumpers shrink sometimes.

Zhampagne · 05/10/2023 16:08

Never seen machine-washable lambswool in Uniqlo. Always hand-wash or dry clean only.

DupontsYellowDressingGown · 05/10/2023 16:10

Jeans, socks, boxers, pjs, coats, woollen items. Just got the raincoat in the Claire Waight Keller collection and I for the price I'm really impressed.

DupontsYellowDressingGown · 05/10/2023 16:11

Oh and ballet style T-shirts for underneath things, they have a wide neck so are hidden and for me the pink ones under a white top are invisible

Don’t think there is a cord one in burgundy, just in the original polyester (and I think that’s only available in store).

South Yorkshire. Although Manchester isn't far in terms of miles it is a PITA to get to. Woodhead is always so busy and TPE is so unreliable with constant cancellations. I have just looked it up on google map. To drive over Woodhead is 32 miles each way. To drive via the M62 is 69 miles each way and only takes 20 minutes longer!

I wouldn't travel 1.5 - 2 hours each way just to visit one shop. I'll have to look for another reason to visit Manchester.

I'd settle for a shop in Leeds or Sheffield.

The posters who said they got the Comptoir des Cottoniers wide trousers, do they come up big? And does the material look nice IRL? Online it looks v thick and I wonder how it will hang.
