I would

whereissummergone · 28/07/2023 21:18

That's a lovely dress so I say why not

HundredMilesAnHour · 28/07/2023 21:27

Personally I wouldn't but depends on the bride and groom and how conventional / conservative they are. Without knowing, I'd err on the side of caution.

Dessertqueen85 · 28/07/2023 22:17

It’s a fabulous dress, but tbh I wouldn’t wear it to a wedding!

Pinkitydrinkity · 28/07/2023 22:41

I wouldn’t because I think there are so many other nice colours to wear in the summer!

MrsJBaptiste · 28/07/2023 22:41

Yep, wear it.

I wore a black dress, black hat and pink shoes to my brother's wedding and felt fabulous!
I didn't give a shit about what colour I should/shouldn't have worn just as I didn't give a shirt what people wore at my wedding.

Honestly, who cares...???

SophiaElise · 28/07/2023 22:44

If you like it, wear it!

Lovely dress, btw. I'd accessorise it with bright colours.

cookiegardencat · 29/07/2023 07:17

ah thanks for all the responses. I think I thought there would be a mix but seems to be a fairly even split really. I know jm slightly biased as had black bridesmaid dresses for my own wedding though that was winter so it's useful to get a range of views.

budget is fairly tight and it's a dress I have already and feel great it. I was thinking gold or pink shoes maybe.

for those of you that have said no is that because you just wouldn't personally or because you consider it not acceptable?

I wouldn't without checking its ok, sure I didn't care what people wore to my wedding but it is thing for some people at wedding not to have black so I would check

WaitingForSunnyDays · 29/07/2023 07:23

I'd stick to "don't wear black or white " unless you've checked with the bride.

Is it?
Why?

CurlewKate · 29/07/2023 07:35

It's lovely- but I wouldn't wear black to a wedding, sorry.

Roussette · 29/07/2023 07:40

I wore a black dress to my brother's wedding. It's the only time I ever have. They got divorced and I always put it down to my dress!

Personally, I don't like all black at a wedding. My niece had black bridesmaid dresses, I really didn't like it, it just looked odd for a summer wedding. Just my opinion I know!

RuthW · 29/07/2023 08:23

No it's not suitable for a wedding

MissesMorkan · 29/07/2023 08:49

Absolutely. Nice dress. I love black summer dresses. (And they always remind me of the bit in I Capture the Castle where Rose and Cassandra go to London wearing white and note, mortified, that fashionable women wear black in London in summer…)

watersprites · 29/07/2023 08:55

not wearing black to a wedding is very outdated & you won't be the only one in black.

watersprites · 29/07/2023 08:55

sorry I mean thinking black shouldn't be worn at a wedding is outdated.

cookiegardencat · 29/07/2023 10:24

yes @watersprites I did wonder if the general feeling on this topic is changing.

Is it?
Why?

I have no idea if people turned up in tutus to my wedding I wouldn't care but others do carw what people wear, same as wearing full white is not something I would do even if I don't care if people did to mine

If I need to think if my outfit is suitable for any occasion I assume it isn't so wouldn't wear it

CurlewKate · 29/07/2023 10:28

I agree that sentiment on this is changing. I suppose it depends on the wedding, the couple and who's going to be there. I love demolishing outdated tradition- I'm not sure a wedding in front of Aunty Mabel and Uncle Stanley is the place to do it!

NatashaDancing · 29/07/2023 11:35

There is some really odd thinking on Mumsnet.

LadyPenelope68 · 29/07/2023 11:39

Looks amazing, absolutely wear it - pink shoes would look great with it.

Deadringer · 29/07/2023 11:43

Iirc traditionally black is fine for a wedding as long as you don't look like you are in mourning. That dress is lovely. I don't know when people became so rigid about stuff like this, or if they really are in real life.

LittleMonks11 · 29/07/2023 11:48

No not to a day wedding. I would if I was just attending the evening party. It's gorgeous. Do they have other colours?

MustardCress · 29/07/2023 11:54

Nope. I would think you were dressed for a posh funeral.

Sooooo many colours, just not black or white. Unless you are an unusual size it’s not that difficult to find something else is it?

Its a lovely dress though and I always wonder why labels don’t automatically offer dresses like this also in navy/ midnight blue.
