@Countmeout is it garment-dyed do you know? Of not whatever colour you dye it will likely not change the stitching colour as its likely that they would have used polyester thread ..
Also if its a fabric mix? Only cotton and viscose and rayon will dye with normal dye (although you can buy Rit Polyester dye but I have not tried it and tbh cannot see how it would work) .

If it is garment dyed, I think that I would first use Dylon pre dye which will turn it beige and then perhaps a brick red? .. However its always a risk ! I dyed an unlined blue cotton workwear jacket navy and the stitching didnt dye which I didn't mind but as it had an inside pocket you could see the thread of that on the outside of the jacket .. As it was old I didnt mind removing the inner picket after though I had to wash it again to get rid of the impression it made ..

Otherwise if you are feeling brave use a bright red on it which will make it more rust ( but id use Rit dye - you can get it on Amazon - rather than Dylon as their colours are brighter) . You can use these in a machine despite thet are not advertised for machine use.. but make sure that you add salt as per the instructions.. On a jacket id use 2 packs but you dont need to

If you are not prepared to risk it you could always ebay it and buy another? It could make a decent price..

@Countmeout
That should have read: 'On a jacket id use 2 packs of dye but you dont need to add twice the salt '

Is it quite long?
I struggle with fixed waistbands. Is it generous? Would love to have the beautiful indigo denim skirt.
A rarity to find one elsewhere. Such a useful and timeless garment.

Hi - I’m very happy with the length and size in general. I’m 5 ft 8 and the skirt falls approximately mid calf but closer to ankle than my knee. I am approximately high street size 12 (depending on where I shop) and I bought the skirt in a size 12. I’d say the waistband is true to size. Top button is a tiny bit snug but only because I have a bit of a tummy on me but it’s not tight enough to size up. It’s no where near as tight as the Annie jeans I once bought - I had to move out the top button an inch or two. It feels comfortable on and is in no way restrictive. Like all denim it softens and gives a bit on wearing.

Countmeout · 26/07/2023 08:49

Thanks @Laska2Meryls maybe will have to have a longer think. It’s one of the workwear jackets , I never thought of the thread in this one.

dudsville · 26/07/2023 09:01

You've got a really good run of cute outfits there @ilovecherries ! Pre sale i wanted that top, and to go with the striped trousers we both bought, the way toast styled it, but when it came to the sale i didn't choose it. You have both items, do they go together irl?

Laska2Meryls · 26/07/2023 09:26

@Countmeout .. Actually ( call me weird) id be quite excited about dyeing that jacket red ! I think that it would come out a fab russet shade or maybe just a deep red .. But I am notoriously reckless with dye .....

I don’t think they work together for me. The trousers are too stiff, despite their volume and the top is too soft and floppy. The blues are very different, as is the other colour in the stripe. I like some points of difference in separates but somehow those two together have too many for me.

dudsville · 26/07/2023 12:09

Thanks @ilovecherries, now I don't have to worry i missed out on it as that was the reason I was interested in it! I'm sure it's fab but I now own many striped tees from toast!

Saurus72 · 26/07/2023 13:05

I just went on a lunchtime dash to the Dering St store to try some things from the new collection and to try and get to grips with the new sizing. I tried the denim skirt in a 16(!) and it’s nice. I think it would be a workhorse item but I have a wrap denim skirt from a couple of years ago so not sure I need another. I tried the navy skirt with the green embroidery in a large as that’s what they had. I love this and I’m planning to order but in medium. The fabrics feels kind of like a fine canvas/denim, a casual feel. Love it! I also tried the Greta harlequin dress - online, all I really see are the bright yellow bits but I liked it much more IRL. This in my usual Toast dress size 12. May buy in a sale but not full price.

looking forward to catching up with the Live later on.

That embroidered dress is lovely @Saurus72 what did it look like without the belt?

Snowyowl78 · 26/07/2023 14:07

Ooh @Saurus72 i think the blue dress is a winner!

just watched the vid, I liked the blue chambray shirt but I am not sure I can deal with the clowny collar!

Saurus72 · 26/07/2023 14:24

It’s quite triangular, I definitely wouldn’t wear it without the belt. The denim skirt is off my wish list but the embroidered dress is now at the top! I also asked to try the best cashmere jumper in pebble but they didn’t have it in store, the assistant said it might be because it’s last season. I’m wondering on that basis if it could go into a sale perhaps..?!

mizu · 26/07/2023 15:18

I like the other dress - is it lovely cupro material?

faustina · 26/07/2023 15:24

@Saurus72 - that navy dress is lovely - hard to see the denim skirt clearly. Was it small waisted like their previous denim skirts?

Saurus72 · 26/07/2023 15:30

@faustina Yes pretty small overall tbh. It’s really good denim, I liked it.

@mizu It’s a viscose crepe, feels really nice.

Stoic123 · 26/07/2023 18:52

Wore a viscose dress to work today to break my Toast viscose dress duck. My most complimented Toast outfit ever - so now on regular rotation.

Laska2Meryls · 26/07/2023 19:06

I like that @Stoic123 .. Which one is it? I just wore baggy green cotton linen trousers and old navy Toast BF tee today.. Another plopping around the house and garden day.. Tomorrow am out all day .. I think ill wear the oatmeal linen trousers and olive linen tunic with my new Steve Mono shoes..

@Stoic123 that is my talisman Toast dress; I get compliments galore whenever I wear it. I have two so I can extend the lifespan of my favourite dress of all time. Honestly, I love the viscose dresses; they wash easily, don’t need ironing (I hang them on coat hangers straight out of the machine and then in the shower room for a steam or two), they’re generally longer in length (I’m tall) and they hide a multitude of sins (perimenopausal stomach and unshaven legs!), you can dress them up or down, wear them with trainers or boots, and they always just make me feel like I’ve made an effort but without trying too hard. I reckon that the viscose dresses are the equivalent of my DD2’s dinosaur onesie: comfy and cool and quirky and interesting.

Oh, and they’re always reduced to silly prices in the Toast sales.

Stoic123 · 26/07/2023 19:24

@SmaugMum - so you like them? 😂

I'm convinced. I'm going to wear the Peaks Print Easy Dress out to dinner and have just bought a preloved Mila Pinwheel dress.

You see, the brainwashing has worked: you are slowly but surely becoming a member of my viscose dress cult. 😅

Laska2Meryls · 26/07/2023 19:42

Ooh yes , lovely I have the pinwheel and love it .. So evening outfit after shower is the striped Areca pj trousers again ( only worn once for a couple of hours this week in case you think .. ' Oh yuk.. dirty mare' 🤣) and montella sweat from last A/W sale.. its turned a bit chilly here this evening. ..
Getting ready to settle down with a Wine for the Sewing Bee final !😃..

Peaks print is my current favourite Toast ' posh' dress .. I wore it for a wedding in Denmark a few weeks ago ( and took the Thorn easy shirt as a jacket.. but didn't actually need that because it was so hot ) and got loads of compliments on it ....
