@agnesmartin , your husband is really switched on!

As for your v intersting wardrobe project @Stoic123, are there any things you've worn yet where you clarified your thoughts on the reason for that?

I think i wear all my clothes... or at least all my toast clothes, but I'm not sure and i shall have a think. I do struggle with one part of my wardrobe, the poplin type fabrics. To get dressed i think about the tasks of the day, check the weather app, and then stick my arm out the window. Then i feel fabrics. On the hottest days i don't want the crispest cotton because it seems heavy and thick, but on cooler days i don't choose it as it's too stiff and sticks out and therefore doesn't seem warm enough. It doesn't make sense, so i shall play with this notion and see if those items can be worn more often! I also want to give up my pandemic habit of wearing something for 2 or 3 days in a row before changing. I simply have too many nice things and am not patient enough!

dudsville · 20/07/2023 20:23

Ah yes, i tried all of those draped utility dresses in the last sale and they didn't suit me either. You are lucky @Alpacasoft !

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/07/2023 20:27

I’m beginning to wonder if I’m just incredibly fussy. My replacement Fracap ink arrived, they are a bigger 5 than the other pair and they just seem odd.
The left shoe is fine but the right shoe seems skewed, there is a bulge on one side and I measured the length of the leather at that point and it is half a cm longer than the other shoe. Also the middle part (throat?) doesn’t seem centered.
I can’t wear them like that but I feel almost too embarrassed to return and order another pair to try again.
I have attached a photo but I don’t know if it’s obvious from that.(Excuse lurking camera strap).

@Alpacasoft - I am short waisted so that makes sense.

@dudsville - I'm learning more from what I am avoiding than what I am wearing. We do have something in common: the solitary pair of Toast shorts I own is unworn (even when was hot the first week)! Generally, the exercise is just reinforcing my love for Toast.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/07/2023 20:31

This is what happens when I put them on (tightest hole on the buckle).

dudsville · 20/07/2023 20:31

Oh, that's an awkward dilemma @Theteapotsbrokenspout . Looking at your pic, the thing i think i can see is the the part you put your foot into is much bigger on the right, is that what you mean by throat? I don't know shoe terms!

Stoic123 · 20/07/2023 20:33

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - they are definitely uneven.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/07/2023 20:35

@dudsville Yes that’s the bit I mean, it does actually look bigger in the photo but it’s skewed rather than bigger.

dudsville · 20/07/2023 20:36

@stoic, could the shorts live in your holiday suitcase ready for that specific context? But even then i would wear dresses.

In going to give your idea and try and see what i avoid. That's interesting.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/07/2023 16:49

Or do you mean the new ecru ones at £185! I would like to try these.

Cotton Linen Canvas Wide Leg Trousers | Parchment | TOAST

Yes, I think it was these. Couldn’t find them as I was searching for ecru but these are described as parchment.

ellequick · 20/07/2023 20:39

@Alpacasoft you were so right to keep all of the colours. I brought the draped utility dress in slate and am truly regretting not getting olive as well. I wore the slate today and it’s so lovely. Curse my self-restraint! 😣

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/07/2023 20:40

@Stoic123 I definitely can’t wear them, I’m going to have to send them back. I don’t know if I can face ordering again.

dudsville · 20/07/2023 20:40

@Theteapotsbrokenspout, would measuring on the top of the shoes toe to heel, pulling the heels taught, show a discrepancy do you think? Then you could send that pic to them.

Stoic123 · 20/07/2023 20:50

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - yes, I'd return. Maybe if you pause for a bit, you'll regain the energy.

I have the pair in brown. They look gorgeous but are troublesome to wear (they eat my socks).

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/07/2023 21:04

@Stoic123 @dudsville I don’t feel I can go through another shoe discussion with cs so I have decided to include a note with the return explaining what I think is wrong with them. That way I will feel a bit better about it.
I'm also still waiting for a resolution for the wrong scarf I received today.

dudsville · 20/07/2023 21:06

You've had an unlucky time. That takes the shine off things. Your note sounds like a good idea.

Stoic123 · 20/07/2023 21:20

@Theteapotsbrokenspout -yes, very unlucky.

Your note is a great idea. Those shoes look very wonky and misshapen to me. I know it’s dispiriting to go through the hassle of returning again but please don’t feel you are being a nuisance, you absolutely deserve a tip-top pair of shoes in perfect condition after paying what amounts to a considerable sum
of money. You deserve to feel thrilled with your new purchase and please don’t feel you should settle for less. Go for it !

Have you thought about mixing your poplin with softer fabrics eg soft cotton vest under shirt for layering on cooler days? I also sometimes wear my oversize soft alpaca cardigan with my poplin shirt or a fine wool shawl/ throw/wrap. This helps softens the whole look and provides contrast. May help to give you a cosy feel.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/07/2023 23:36

Thank you @Noodle421 you've made me feel a lot better about returning the shoes 🙂.

dudsville · 21/07/2023 07:36

That's a great idea @Noodle421, I'll look for a cotton vest! I think i could wear that even on warm days, it would absolutely provide that softer layer between me and the poplin and be perfect in colder days, brilliant simple solution!

BettinaInDenmark · 21/07/2023 08:21

Got my last two sale parcels yesterday, so today I'm wearing the cotton linen wide leg trousers (which are really comfortable) together with some items from this spring and earlier in this sale, namely the cream alpaca half sleeve cardi and the tint stripe cotton poplin shirt. I simply love this shirt, received it around middle of June and I think it's been washed 5-6 times already. Should have bought a second one...

Am I the only one wanting to buy mere than one of items that feel "just right"? In this sale I have gotten two each of the cotton linen v-neck tee in both black and montella, because I loved them so much. And because I am totally infatuated with the montella colour 😀

Laska2Meryls · 21/07/2023 08:40

I am keeping the Celadon green cotton linen panelled trousers which arrived yesterday and the new collection breen stripe easy tee .. goes brilliantly with the fenugreek balloon trousers ..
So wearing that combination today, with my new chocolate Steve Mono fisherman shoes which I bought at Kilver Court yesterday.. so pleased with these..
Going back is the cotton Oxford easy shirt. Just enormous, the tie dye sicks in blue ( thick cotton too hot for now , will take ages to dry also ) .. and probably the Molloy scarf which id like to keep -but looking at my scarf pile I really shouldn't.. I have two more parcels arriving today. French blue workwear trousers and a smaller pear alpaca tank ..
