New thread ...lets hope we get the weather to wear all our lovely summer stuff ..

Stravaig's essential trouser tests (mobility permitting):

Can I sit down without any restriction or ballooning at the waistband/stomach?
Can I take big strides in them?
Can I squat down in them?
Can I bring my knee up high, do a high kick in them?
Has any of this caused any chafing, or burst any seams? 😮

Subsidiary concerns:
How much hemming will I have to do? (Medium height, bizarrely short legs).
Am I going to have to wear a belt? (Generous arse, small waist).

Then I might look in a full-length mirror (which I do not currently own).

Friends used to think I was hilarious/nuts. They'd be throwing magazine poses in a snug 10; I'd be checking range of movement in an easy 12 🤷‍♀️🤣

dudsville · 20/07/2023 13:44

I agree with your rule @Noodle421. For the most part I need to put something on and look in the mirror and kind of fall in love a little bit, no matter the cost. Sometimes an item is such a good price for the quality of an item that this leaves me dithering for a day or two though! The only exception is the plain tees, but then they still have the meet the other criteria. What I need to remember is the new learning for me about sundresses and necklines, that I can be more flexible and consider minor alterations to raise the nckline or wearing them under something, and then I get to have things like the wonderful Pond that will have its first outing tomorrow!

I agree, and sale price makes me dither too but putting it away for a day or two and then re trying helps me to arrive at a decision fairly quickly. If it’s taking too much effort to make it work in my wardrobe back it goes. It was hard with the gingham shirt because I loved 3 things out of 4 but the bottom line is the style didn’t suit me, no matter how much I liked the quality, fabric and style. Btw - I think you are so inventive at adapting and tweaking clothing for maximum fit. A forgotten/ neglected skill. You inspire me to try likewise. Another thing, all this trying on and returning is not wasted, it’s helping you to hone your style eg all important neckline decision can make or break the outfit. I’ve also recently found out that high round necklines suit me best. I won’t ever buy another V neck again unless it has a round neck T underneath. All helps to minimise costly clothing mistakes I hope.

faustina · 20/07/2023 13:59

@dudsville - I find tees are the most complicated things to buy ever. I still haven't worked out (at great cost) what makes a tee beautifully oversized instead of just too big. It drives me bananas!

All my remaining sale orders arrived today, not including the spare pillowcase which I already have. The landscape check shirt is a wonderful print, but is way too big (in S - new size). So that's going back
I reordered the cotton linen v neck tee in XS and this one fits beautifully so it's staying
I also ordered a garment dyed raglan sleeve tee in Carbon and it's really lovely! It was a wildcard and I hadn't expected to keep it but I think I will have to!

No1Mousie · 20/07/2023 14:31

Recommendations please

I’m hoping to make my lovely sale dresses - the denim tie waist dress, the oar check dress, and the check twill dress in rich last wearable well into autumn/winter by layering with merino Ts or polo necks, but I need inspiration for winter shoes/boots. I’ve got black clumpy Chelsea boots, but would like other options including tall boots too, any recommendations?

PretLea · 20/07/2023 14:36

@No1Mousie I love my Blundstone boots, wear them with everything in winter.

No1Mousie · 20/07/2023 14:44

Last = olive !

No1Mousie · 20/07/2023 14:48

@PretLea oh I’d love a pair of Blunnies, think they look fab with dresses, but don’t feel I can justify buying a pair when I’ve got similar style in black, and a pair of tan cheaney brogue boots.

dudsville · 20/07/2023 15:15

Love your trousers test @Stravaig ! I got anxious the other day because when I put the dungarees on I forgot to sit in them and my partner laughed at me putting them on just to sit in them and take them off again!

So true @Noodle421 . And I think this sale has finally helped me to not feel so bad about the mountains of returns. This is the only way I get to try stuff and see what works.

The wildcards are great @faustina !

@No1Mousie, I really like the comfort of Pscal DMs, they're the ones that feel good straight out of the box. I recieved a pair before minutes before leaving for the airport, put them on and kept them on for two weeks! Minor rubbing on one heel for a few days but then fine. Not to the point of needing plasters.

ToastCosILoveIt · 20/07/2023 15:25

@No1Mousie , I second the Pascal DMs that @dudsville referred to, they were my go to boot last winter. I am thinking about purchasing them in red or green this year (if I can find them). All the fab look of DMs without having to break them in.

BettinaInDenmark · 20/07/2023 15:29

@dudsville I totally agree with the Pascal DM being great boots - but I think they can be a bit tricky. I usually take a 39 in them, and have got several pairs that I love. Then I bought a pair with a great garden print on them, wore them to work straight out of the box, and suffered most of the day.
Only after that experience I realised that there is a world of difference between the unisex and the female versions 😎
I love my latest pair of DM's: The ones DM made as a tribute to the Black Sabbath album jubilee.

faustina · 20/07/2023 15:32

Wheresitatkat on instagram is really great to follow. She was selling the prince of Wales jacket and trousers in a 16 yesterday for £100 which I think is a bargain if anyone's interested.

No1Mousie · 20/07/2023 15:36

Thanks all, will look up the pascal dms 👍. I’ve got the leonora lined ones which are super cosy 😊

dudsville · 20/07/2023 15:36

@BettinaInDenmark , I find it so hard to work out whether I'm ordering the women's or unisex! I can wear both comfortably luckily, but I wish I knew which I was purchasing at the point of ordering!

ToastCosILoveIt · 20/07/2023 15:45

Oh dear, I'm downsizing my wardrobe but every time I put something from Toast aside for the Facebook selling page, I decide I like it too much to part with. Does anyone remember this dress? I put it on and love it....! It's Toast old, old sizing because I'm a firm 12 but this 14 doesn't look oversized.

BettinaInDenmark · 20/07/2023 15:45

This is really weird: Two days ago I ordered the Lydia jersey jumpsuit in washed indigo - price on sale Euro 135. And the washed black version was not on sale.

Now the exact same jumpsuit is priced Euro 205, the same as the washed black version.

The description does not say anything about these now being the "new sizing", so maybe the sale price was a mistake?

ToastCosILoveIt · 20/07/2023 15:46

Oops, here it is.

Clumpy loafers will also work. May not be your thing ?

No1Mousie · 20/07/2023 16:04

@Noodle421 ohh like chunky loafer idea!

neveradullmoment99 · 20/07/2023 12:55

I think some of those images are with the fisherman trousers ( ecru ones)
They were absolutely awful looking on me.
I think I have a thick waist, which means I have to buy the 14 but my legs are slim so just look way too baggy.
I was thinking that the new ecru ones with the elastic might be a better fit.

Which ones are those, never? I’m not seeing them.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/07/2023 16:43

On Instagram @ilovecherries?
Or on the Toast website?
Its the ones with the tie waist and pleats. Cotton canvas I think they are. They were a gorgeous material and looked great when static but when I moved they bulged from my tummy to downwards. I was really sad about them as they looked fab on her but she is younger and has a flat tummy!
Kat also wears the dhal trousers. They looked equally weird on me with the pleats. I did so wanted to love both those trousers but they just did not suit my shape.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/07/2023 16:47

I can't link them anymore as they were in the sale.
They were the ecru belted ones.

ScottishMouse · 20/07/2023 16:49

Just catching up after a heavy day. Thanks for the tips on tees for under the vneck dress (sorry, can’t easily find on my phone who that was). I wore it with a very very old striped top from Toast, which is now quite neat fitting. It has a boat neck and that worked well. I felt good in it.
I thankfully had no time to have a last look at the sale before it disappeared.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/07/2023 16:51

The price Shock

neveradullmoment99 · 20/07/2023 16:54

Think @ToastCosILoveIt has bought them and someone else. Wonder if they stretch a lot as some people are saying they are neat on the waist in the reviews?
Toast chat said the waist was 28 inches in the medium but obviously that will stretch out with the elastic at the back. Not that I am buying just now...
