Looks like we ran out of space - welcome to a shiny new thread! (the 36th edition!)

Hope you approve of the title. 😁

As always, everyone is very welcome - we're most definitely open to Newbies. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

sotd: 4160 Tuesdays wash me in the water -- this is the other one from the samples that I really liked. Fresh/ musky and really nice to spritz when you get out of the shower (which I probably could have figured from the name ;) ).

Featherstep · 09/11/2023 23:07

Hello, lovely people, may I ask for suggestions and ideas?
I read this thread sometimes, have never commented, but the festive season is upon us and I'm looking for a new cold weather perfume/ Christmas present idea.
I like the following, if you have similar tastes what would you suggest I try?
Dior Hypnotic Poison
Chanel 31 Rue Cambon
Chanel 22 (Fell in love years ago but didn't buy and too expensive for me now)
Cartier La Panthere
Chanel Coco
Jo Malone Red Roses (only worn in warmer weather)
Portrait of a Lady - It is gorgeous though I'm a bit scared of it wearing me not the other way round. Are there possibly similar ones that are less.. loud?

I'm afraid I don't like most of the 4160 Tuesdays ones, something about them that I dislike.
Thank you in advance!

Pigeon31 · 10/11/2023 10:01

@Featherstep you might like L'Interdit Rouge -

With POAL, if you like it, it also might be worth spending a bit more time getting comfortable with it. Sana Jardin Incense Water is an incense/ rose which is more rose water than heavy rose perfume, so might be worth a try.

HelloandGoodMorningPlease · 10/11/2023 16:05

Chanel No. 19 today, it’s a very light fragrance on me (nothing like the vintage No.19) but I still love it.
I have lots of gorgeous samples arriving tomorrow so am very excited to try something new. Getting rather fed up with the Ffern Autumn 23 now!

Magpiecomplex · 10/11/2023 18:52

Been trying out Amouage Sunshine Man today, having blind bought a sample. It's delicious on fabric but I think maybe a bit sweet on me. Either way it's eye-wateringly expensive for a big bottle!

HelloandGoodMorningPlease · 11/11/2023 13:41

SOTD: a new to me fragrance Kayali Vanilla 28. I love it, it is the vanilla fragrance that I have been dreaming of!

Magpiecomplex · 11/11/2023 20:23

SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays Dark Queen, for lunch out. Very nice, although not a good to wear for work, I think.

HelloandGoodMorningPlease · 13/11/2023 10:50

SOTD YSL Black Opium Le Parfum. Just a subtle spray for daytime at home. Nice initial vanilla but quickly becomes softer. Kayali Vanilla 28 is still the winner in the vanilla stakes.
Yesterday was Diptyque Eau Duelle EDP, nice vanilla but did not last on me.

Lotsofpots · 14/11/2023 13:30

Hi all. Think it's been years since I was on this thread. Still love a good scent, particularly in the winter!

Wondered if any of you knew whether Le Labo are included in Black Friday discounts? Have a very £££ present to buy, and debating between buying today for liberty extra points or holding out for a discount.

AnonForThisPost · 14/11/2023 14:17

@Lotsofpots I think Le Labo are almost always excluded from promotions sadly, so the Liberty points offer may be best (do check the terms and conditions, as some brands are excluded). An alternative might be to buy from Harvey Nicks who currently have quite a good fragrance Gift With Purchase for a spend of £150 on two or more beauty items.

Draculina · 14/11/2023 14:55

I'm wearing this vanilla and cardamom-based perfume today. It's one of my favourites.

Amazing, thank you. Just checked and Le Labo aren't excluded from loyalty points offer so will do that today.

DramaAlpaca · 15/11/2023 22:30

@Featherstep I know what you mean about POAL. It can wear you if you overdo it. I find Lady Vengeance by Juliette Has A Gun to be similar but not quite so in your face.

SOTD Shalimar. I love it but wore it to work and got told I smelled like someone's elderly auntie. Ouch!

Deathraystare · 16/11/2023 19:34

I seem to have Hugo Boss the orange one permanently in my bag. It is not a huge favourite but handy for work (quite a damning description!). Nice enough but nothing to startle the horses.

HelloandGoodMorningPlease · 16/11/2023 22:03

Well I surprised myself and I actually prefer YSL Black Opium Le Parfum to Kayali Vanilla 28. DH has ordered me a bottle for Christmas 😁

My samples in the hunt for my perfect vanilla were ;
Kayali Vanilla 28 - thought this would be The One
Diptyque Duelle EDP - hardly lasted a couple of hours on me, didn’t like the top notes, mildly vanillary on me
Escentric Molecules No.1 - neither myself or DH could smell a thing, but I wanted to try it to see if it lived up to the hype.
Penhaligans Changing Constance - lovely, gourmandy, but zero longevity on my skin
Zadig & Voltaire This is Her - quite nice, a bit gourmandy, but zero longevity on me
YSL Black Opium Le Parfum - This is beautiful! vanillary, long lasting ( i could still smell it on myself this morning) not too heavy. I haven’t tried the original, as this is The One!

Featherstep · 16/11/2023 23:08

@Pigeon31 a very belated thank you for your suggestions, I'm going to check those out hopefully when I go into central London next week.
@DramaAlpaca a good call to test Lady Vengeance which has been on my long list of things to test..

SOTD ancient bottle of Obsession, so acrid on first spray but enjoyed it so much on a damp grey chilly morning.

Magpiecomplex · 18/11/2023 11:23

@DramaAlpaca last time I wore Shalimar to work, I got told (by a man easily young enough to be my son) that I smelt lovely! Stick with the perfume and avoid the colleague lacking style and tact... 😉

DuskyBlueDepartingLight · 30/11/2023 21:48

Hi Perfumistas,

I started reading the threads during Covid. Thanks for all the info, tips, blog recs etc. Many pleasant hours of escapism :)

I've just read a transcript of an interview with Mathilde Laurent about her career & approach to perfume creation. Does anyone know why she left Guerlain?

My most recent buys have been Oscar de la Renta, Volupté & Bill Blass, Nude.

SOTD Elegantly Tokyo, Zara - strangely beautiful in the cold ❄️

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/11/2023 22:01

<slinks in> hello, here you all are. I lost this thread for ages! SOTD was MMM BTF for a freezing day with snow 🥶. Hope everyone is doing well ❤️

Magpiecomplex · 02/12/2023 14:15

Trying out 4160 Tuesdays Pirate Queen today. It's not subtle! DH thinks it smells "floral-ish" so there's clearly no hope for him 😂

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 02/12/2023 23:34

SOTD/E is M&S Apothecary Warmth
I got the sample set of the Apothecary fragrances & I really like the Warmth so I can see a full size bottle of this coming my way.
Lots of people say it's a dupe of Le Labo Santal 33 but to me it's very similar to Tom Daxon's Iridium, which I'm saving up for.

I'm noticing that many of my favourite scents have cedar/cedarwood in them just like the Warmth & Iridium do.

And bizarrely because I hate the taste & fragrance of saffron many of the fragrances I like have this as a top note. So go figure 🤔

Regarding other notes / if I see a perfume has either hyacinth, cyclamen, carnation, tuberose, jasmine, rose or lavender notes in it, then at least 7 out of 10 times I tend to like it.

CrimsonElevenDelightPetrichor · 03/12/2023 20:13

Tis the season to wear 'Captured by Candlelight.'
Love this!

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 05/12/2023 23:46

@TracyBeakerSoYeah I've just bought a bottle of Warmth. I love the fragrance but it lasts about ten minutes on me. It's more like a body spray.

SOTD today was Only Amber

thebinkster · 06/12/2023 09:18

Have recently bought 4160 Tuesdays crikey coconut caramel. Can't decide whether I love it or hate it.Has anyone else tried it?

HelloandGoodMorningPlease · 06/12/2023 17:12

SOTD Penhaligons Changing Constance - I love it and it seems to have fairly good staying power on me after all, but I would not pay £220 for it!!!
