Need to up my "dressing for breakfast on holiday " game

We're off to Sorrento this summer (first abroad jaunt since before covid) and whilst not a posh place it's a bit smarter than our usual AI choice hotel.

We'll be either lazing by the pool or going into town for a walk by day, the odd trip so whilst not a dressy holiday per say I think I need something more substantial than a floaty dress over a bikini for breakfast kind of outfit.

I'm still thinking dresses as they are easy and if I choose carefully will suit different parts of the day and activities.

Can anyone recommend some good online places to look, probably top budget of £40ish. Also easy free returns a must - Cupshe have some lovely things but their returns aren't free for example.

Really need ideas as I'm going to be around chic Italians Confused

Just on my way back from sorrento at the moment.

Lots of people coming into breakfast in their fancy running gear. Others in sparkles. Most in dresses or wide leg linen trousers.

Accessories are the stand out feature.

Such a beautiful and vibrant town. Visit the restaurant opposite the Christmas shop if you can - wonderful food and warm welcome. Capri/blue grotto is a must as is Pompeii and Vesuvius. amalfi was great too, especially the boat trip.

Very envious of you!

Thanks Gazelda! We're very excited, it's our second visit and DDs first. We're staying just outside in Sant A'gnello but plan to wander into the main town often so we'll look that place up!

Actually running gear is a good point, I love an early morning holiday run followed by an enormous breakfast with good coffee. I'll need to consider Non Scruffy Running Gear next Grin

Just being nosy. What hotel are you staying at. We stayed at the Bristol last year.

Oooh I'll need to look it up and get back to you.

We stayed at The Grand Hotel De La Ville last time which was very old school but lovely service and food.

Loving all these breakfast dress suggestions! Just what I need for my summer holiday too 😊

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz may I give a restaurant recommendation? Trattoria da Emilia in Marina Grande has the best sea food we had on our holiday there last year. You'll need to reserve a table (ask for one outside) it's very popular. Food is fantastic and service was great too. Have a wonderful time, it's a really lovely place

Thank you! You most certainly may!

I'll add that to our list.

A gorgeous coffee shop recommendation would be very welcome too Grin

We are off to Sorrento in June too! I am also looking for nice breakfast/lunch dresses. Sounds like I need a trip into Primark.

Also, making a note of nice places to visit and restaurants.

givememarmite · 14/04/2023 12:42

Oh I've just seen you're staying in Sant Agnello, we stayed there too! Can recommend Bar Pasticceria Pina for amazing cakes and pastries, DH was happy with the coffee too (I don't drink it!)

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz

I'm very late to this thread, but wanted to chip in to say that Amazon sell lots of CupShe swimwear and dresses. Might help with the returns issue?

Off to click on all the lovely links now, am curating my own holiday wardrobe for Mallorca in July ☀️

QueueEtwo · 14/04/2023 13:29

Am loving this thread!

I am so pleased that the concept of a breakfast dress is so popular!

It's also about how easy it is to throw on too, me & DH tend to roll out of bed quite late on holiday so it needs to be something I can throw over my bikini, flips flops on & go!

I am going to take some time to look at the links even though I don't have anything booked (yet) for this year!

CremeEggThief · 11/04/2023 16:14

You don't NEED to "up your game" though, do you?

You want to put more effort in than most of us can be bothered, which is a bit different.

@CremeEggThief

dont be a pedant

theres nothing wrong with wanting to look nice especially on holiday

RampantIvy · 14/04/2023 14:03

We're staying just outside in Sant A'gnello

We stayed there when we went @tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz. The walk into the main part of Sorrento isn't very nice because the roads are extremely busy and the pavements are very narrow. We had an early morning boat trip from Sorrento one morning and got the train in. The hotel we stayed in is now called the Majestic Palace Hotel and it looks like it has had a complete refurb since we were there. Although it was pretty decent when we stayed 11 years ago.

I've always found Amazon make you pay for non faulty returns? Otherwise that would be great as I've seen lots there I like

Please don't be @tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz. Once you get into the middle of Sorrento there are traffic free areas, but the streets all round the Sant Agnello area are very narrow and busy. DH loves walking and there wasn't anywhere nice to walk where we stayed. The coastline is very built up with a lot of hotels on the edge of the cliffs so you can't walk along it.

I don't think they do. In fact, just before we last went away, I had a last minute swimwear emergency and ordered about 10 swimsuits etc from Amazon so I could be sure at least one or two would fit, and I got free returns and a full refund on the stuff I didn't keep. We probably had Prime, but if you don't they always offer you a free/very cheap trial I find.

Ahhh ok definitely with another look. Thanks!

Gosh that dress is a beaut ... I laughed when the 10% off pop up appeared though as that doesn't really dent the £ much Grin

I’ve been to Sorrento a couple of times (once to meet a dear friend on honeymoon, I think in the hotel mentioned above- very nice) and it’s close to Positano on the Amalfi Coast. You’ll probably see offers for coach trips. Sorrento town caters strongly to British tourists, like football in the pubs and takeaway places. Just avoid those and look out for Pastiera Napoletana in the cake shops!

Theres a very recognizable “Positano Dress” style which includes gypsy skirts, puff sleeves, Bardot tops and loud prints. Sometimes lace appliqué and whole-dyed garment coloring.

A bit OTT once you’re home, except maybe for a summer barbecue…
