  • Lots of different styles of jeans. Still lots of skinnies, with oversized tops
  • Lots of bags like this picture
  • A very large proportion of trainers were New Balance
  • Those not in trainers mainly wore chunky flat or low heeled boots (no one in heels)

Also fleece seems to be making a comeback, but the more “chunky” “Sherpa” fleece, rather than the smooth fleece

Oh this is a great idea for a thread! Reporting from different places!
I'll be out tomorrow & can make a point of people watching. In the name of research.

MistySkiesAreGone · 25/02/2023 21:52

Ooh I blooming love a fleece. Excellent.

Trainnerd · 25/02/2023 21:54

I just bought a bag identical to that from Uniqlo and they had hundreds of them in all different colours so they might have come from there!

Hottubby · 25/02/2023 21:57

In the midlands today tons of long pleather boots and short skirts- just as seen in the 90s

Meterry · 25/02/2023 21:57

Sort of 90s pap in Florida then.

Trainnerd · 25/02/2023 21:59

The jeans thing is interesting as I feel like it’s the older gen hanging on the skinnies and the youngster all have those higher waist boyfriend or girlfriend baggier types. So unflattering on anyone with shall we say mature womanly curves.

my observation from sitting people watching in Costa in a large shopping centre today was that everyone under 20 wears cropped tops. No one young had a longer top on at all. Super Short T shorts and little bra gym type tops with jeans or leggings and then the ubiquitous black Puffa coat. Youngsters seem to have a uniform more than ever ( ra ra skirts and suede pixie boots in 80s was about the equivalent!)

Middle aged women seem lost fashion wise. Saw only one or two that stood out as stylish if I’m honest. So many of those flowery slightly stretchy tops that end in the worst position just above the crotch. I blame Next.

Those uniqlo bags are everywhere, a massive cliché (apparently, and hideous). I have 2 and love them.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 25/02/2023 22:04

I agree you rarely see well put together people these days. Those that are stand out.

Leftbutcameback · 25/02/2023 22:06

I went up to London the other day and even with getting the tube everywhere we could still did over 10k steps, so personally very happy trainers are fashionable!

I do love the big Borg type fleeces but I think they would make me look huge (I’m short, middle aged, curvy)

PuppyMonkey · 25/02/2023 22:11

Lordy that first outfit pic - what a terrible legacy for you younger folk. Clothes these days are indeed hideous.

NoMoneyForEducation · 25/02/2023 22:26

I noticed the same about no heels. Did not see a single one. Or indeed hear one...I particularly noticed the lack of noise of heels whilst moving between tubes/platforms...they used to be part of the hubbub....

Floisme · 25/02/2023 22:37

Nah the older generation isn't scared of flares - it's our 3rd time around.

Theos · 25/02/2023 22:38

Were there lots of frumpy mums dress as if they were going tracking in the Arctic?

Cant be bothered to search much but this sort of thing- the stretchy patterned ‘woman’s T shirt’ they have in next and per Una and peacocks. Always end too low to be flattering on a middle aged figure when we carry it round our middle. Worn with jeans or M&S style trousers and a fleece or jacket. Seemed to be an army of women dressed like this today.

I don't get it, was it particularly cold in London today or something?!

bestbefore · 25/02/2023 22:50

Everyone round here wears black leggings with white crew socks pulled up outside the leggings and trainers - very sporty look

Theos · 25/02/2023 22:50

There are always mums dressed in walking boots with backpacks on as if walking 4 miles is going to stretch them.

Their children also have outdoor wear as if it’s like some sort of endurance episode

gingercat02 · 25/02/2023 22:51

Was everyone not on Black and White in London today. According to my Facebook. London is actually full of Geordies 😂😂😂😂

I got 2 for my daughters earlier this week. They love them.

newbie202020 · 25/02/2023 22:57

Whereabouts in 'London' were you though? Makes quite a big difference... Hackney Wick will be different to Stratford Westfield, as will Clapham, Dulwich, Bond Street, Brixton etc

LonelyBones · 25/02/2023 22:57

Love this thread!
