  • Lots of different styles of jeans. Still lots of skinnies, with oversized tops
  • Lots of bags like this picture
  • A very large proportion of trainers were New Balance
  • Those not in trainers mainly wore chunky flat or low heeled boots (no one in heels)

But is London a world leader now?
Is it worth trying to fit the trend if the trend is a bit naff compared to what is considered stylish internationally?
Just wondering why London is soooo great.

I was in Italy last week and everyone there was so much more stylish than in London, and a lot better groomed.

What a tit.

Agreed.

Also words like ‘cool’ is so middle aged, if we are going there, bit like Facebook. Bet @back289 is one of those people who try to be all ‘down with the kids’ while they cringe 😂

LadyWithLapdog · 26/02/2023 07:40

Teeny tiny crop tops
combat-like trousers, low rise
puffa jackets barely covering the waist
black leggings
thin fleeces , short
sideways bum bags
thinner eyebrows
eyeliner on upper and lower eyelid
bronzer
hi-top trainers
chunky trainers
long hair, still middle parting (side parting is coming back, according to fashion magazines)
a few fringes

^ in teens ^

There are always mums dressed in walking boots with backpacks on as if walking 4 miles is going to stretch them.

Their children also have outdoor wear as if it’s like some sort of endurance episode

This is me 😂 (and my kids)

verdantverdure · 26/02/2023 07:44

We went a couple of towns over for something recently and it seemed like every single male human not in a pushchair was wearing a black pufffer sort of training jacket and grey joggers. It was definitely A Thing. 12 year olds, 50 year olds. Everyone in between. I've never seen anything like it.

verdantverdure · 26/02/2023 07:45

Hesma · 26/02/2023 07:31

It’s the black leggings with white sports socks pulled up over them and crocs that gets me 🙄🤣

Whaaaat?! I have not seen that.

Perfectlystill · 26/02/2023 07:46

Why do people get so angry on these threads?

London isn't wall to wall fashion bitches judging each other, same as the countryside isn't full of frumps in fleeces thanking god they don't live in London.

People bring their chips to these threads and it's so tiresome!

AgnesNaismith · 26/02/2023 07:47

So much mean on this thread.

this leggings, white sock, crocs, crop top, north face uniform is surely only age 13-19? I don’t see women in this at all, just girls trying to fit in with each other?

Actual women? I‘ve noticed a neutral, layering trend with different textures and a lot of trainers. Big coat essential this time of year but a couple of long gilets - again more neutral than Joules in the noughties. Shirts over T-shirts with jeans or wide tracksuits seem also to be around. NB are everywhere - seems people caught on to Veja hurting your ankles! I don’t know about jeans - 35+ seem to be straight rather than baggy (which I’m sad about) and I’m very concerned about the return of cargo pants….just waiting for those grim dance ones with tassels to make a reappearance.

Moonphantom · 26/02/2023 07:48

I've just bought a pair of NB platforms and love them!

Anotherschooldilemma · 26/02/2023 07:48

Interesting thread, thanks.

I'm probably one of the 'middle aged women that look awful'.

I'm 33 and if wearing jeans I do still wear skinny jeans. Have lost some weight recently though so going shopping today on the lookout for new jeans, was going to try mom or boyfriend jeans.

Taking on board the other points re handbags etc as I am way behind.

This is us round here.

Or a longer coat with a big colourful scarf on other days.

Backpacks and crossbody bags,

"Healthy" looking make up.

Hair that looks like it might just be healthy and natural bit probably took some work, and definitely doesn't look tortured and hairsprayed

Lordy that first outfit pic - what a terrible legacy for you younger folk. Clothes these days are indeed hideous.

I love it. Grin

Tiddler39 · 26/02/2023 07:54

I love these threads 🍿

Offended northerners ☑️
Middle aged women saying teenagers look shit ☑️
Middle aged women (who admit they make no effort) getting offended when people say middle aged women look shit ☑️
People saying skinnies are dated ☑️
People getting offended at the word ‘frumpy’ ☑️
Middle aged women saying they’re too fat to wear what teenagers wear ☑️
Someone saying ‘I only ever wear fleeces and wellies and I’m perfectly happy’ ☑️

😂😂😂😂
Same every time. Love it.

Blip · 26/02/2023 07:54

Lemon yellow tracksuit with purple moncler puffer jacket. Jacket had MONCLER down the sleeves and vertical zips on the sleeves - zipped back from the cuffs.

Dopamine style.

AgnesNaismith · 26/02/2023 07:57

Just in case my post was misunderstood - I don’t think teenagers look shit in their uniform. I just don’t think they should be judged for their fashion, they have enough bullshit going on!

Just wondering why London is soooo great.

It certainly used to be. It always had more individuality than other cities. It may be different know.

back289 · 26/02/2023 00:33

For the people not being deliberately obtuse.
Try hard, as most people that are interested in fashion means exactly that.
Not too matchy matchy, too contrived, it's best to put your own spin/identity/fun on your outfits.
If you're too identikit....it's naff

Sorry but most northerners are at least 6 months/ 1 year behind london most have never heard of the cool brands! .

I'm north based (not northern).

Which lesser known brands are popular in London currently?

Penguinduvetcover · 26/02/2023 08:01

Middle aged women seem lost fashion wise. Saw only one or two that stood out as stylish if I’m honest. So many of those flowery slightly stretchy tops that end in the worst position just above the crotch. I blame Next.

that will be me 🤪

Thomasina79 · 26/02/2023 08:02

I’m at an age where I don’t care what anyone thinks and wear what I like (within reason!) especially since losing four stone! Yesterday I wore a long sleeve jersey dress with multiple coloured small spots and some red footless tights. My four year old grandaughter loved it! I especially love fitting into jeans again. Nothing on earth would get me to wear flares again though; they were bad enough first time round and I have pictures to prove it!

CanofCant · 26/02/2023 08:02

Budgie'd trousers are in.

Maireas · 26/02/2023 08:03

What I've noticed is this: (disclaimer, I do live Oop North)
Many young women wear leggings and crop tops.
Some young women wear very wide legged hard denim jeans with very loose tops.
Those boots that look like wellies with thick soles are very popular.
There is a lot of nail art.
Pumped lips and false eyelashes are huge. Literally.
Other women wear very long slim skirts or loose trousers, large jackets, plain tops.
I'm not seeing any florals at the moment, but it's still winter.
Baker boy hats and mittens are having a moment.

RhadamanthNemes · 26/02/2023 08:03

Look, I love London, visit regularly, it really is one of the best cities in the world.

BUT, when I lived there in the 90s and worked in the city, the thing that surprised me was how fucking parochial it was. It really was, to the people who lived there, as if there was no other place in the UK that was fathomable.

Which is why I left in the end.

It's ok to 'dress up'.

I cringe so hard when a poster asks on S&B what they should wear 'In London' and posters fall over themselves to deride anything other than sackcloth and ashes as 'try hard'.

And may the Lord save you if you're going to a regional Ivy restaurant and want to dress up. You may as well throw yourself in the bin, you utter fool.

London has just had fashion week. It's one of the world's fashion capitals. It's absolutely fine to get your dressy on. In London or anywhere.

And FUCK people who are too cool for school.

Clothes and dressing should be fun and joyous, look at Vivienne Westwood's funeral last week. It was in London, and a celebration of British fashion.

Don't dress down, dress up! And bloody well enjoy it.

sandgrown · 26/02/2023 08:07

Youngsters in the North don’t follow fashion. They invent it. Some great looks in Manchester. Where I live it’s cold and windy and there is a great line in matching fleeces with a husky on the back ! Didn’t realise they were back in fashion 😂

Timeturnerplease · 26/02/2023 08:08

South East village here, London an hour away by train. Teenagers seem to be wearing much of what PP have stated above. What baffles me is that five years ago those in tracksuits would have really stood out and your mind would have immediately gone to the stereotype of ‘chav’. Now it seems to be the ultimate clothing choice and pretty pricey stuff.

Those of us in their 30s/40s with small children seem to have a uniform of thick leggings/comfy jeggings, jumpers and trainers. Not high fashion, but pretty practical.

Older people are the best. They literally do not care about weather or fashion. I aspire to be like that.
